Chapter 409: 409: Simple Task

Looking at the task posted by Cecilia, Song Jian pondered for a moment before raising his head and inquiring, “Cecilia, are those five trolls at a high level and have strong power?”

A trace of embarrassment crossed Cecilia’s face as she shook her head and replied, “Their levels are only at twenty, and one of them even possesses the combat power of a level twenty elite boss. However, I don’t think they would be considered a significant threat to you.”

“Then how did they manage to ambush you? You possess a first-order combat power!” Song Jian’s face displayed surprise.

To Song Jian, first-order combat power is like an invincible power. For instance, the guards outside the library exude an aura that makes Song Jian shiver slightly. If he was to encounter them head-on, he reckons that he could only summon seventy or eighty percent of his full power;

“They ambushed me when I was fully invested in the Book of the Abyss, trying to completely eradicate the demon of the Abyss,” Cecilia explained with frustration. “Otherwise, a single divine art from me could easily wipe all five of them out!”

“Alright, alright. The trolls shamelessly ambushed you.” Song Jian quickly commiserated. “Why don’t you go find them and retrieve the Book of the Abyss?

With Cecilia’s first-order combat power, she could easily defeat five level twenty elite bosses. Not to mention, only one amongst the five trolls possessed the power of an elite boss, the other four merely had the strength of ordinary monsters.

“I… I can’t locate them for the time being,” Cecilia responded helplessly. “The Book of the Abyss is a treasure of the Abyssal Clan. If it remains in this world for too long, the Abyssal Power will spill over like a plague, transforming any creature it touches into an Abyssal devil!”

A light of realization dawned on Song Jian’s face. So, Cecilia knew that he was a patron of the gods, in other words, a player. That’s why she gave him this task to retrieve the Book of the Abyss.

Once Song Jian accepts this task, the game system will automatically guide him to the hiding spots of the five trolls. Compared to Cecilia aimlessly running around in Doomsday City, this method is much more efficient;

“Alright, I am willing to take on this task,” Song Jian nodded in agreement.

As soon as he consented, the quest, “Find the Book of Abyss,” appeared in his task column. “Kill five trolls and locate the Book of the Abyss,” are the requirements of this mission. On the task map, a yellow area the size of an egg marks where the five trolls are hiding;

“I know where the trolls are hiding now. Do you want to come?” Song Jian raised his head and looked at Cecilia as he asked this question.

Puzzlement crossed Cecilia’s face as she retorted, “Isn’t this mission already yours? Why would I need to go?”

Song Jian:”…”

Watching Song Jian’s mouth twitch twice without uttering a word, he turned to leave. Cecilia hurriedly called out, “Hey, since you hardly come in here, remember to try some of the tasks from the lobby on the first floor. If you’re lucky, you might even get a Skill Book!”

“Thanks for the reminder!” Song Jian thanked her without any expression;

When Song Jian arrived at the main hall on the first floor, he saw Dr. Kang Lin, standing motionless under the golden sphere, seemingly comminicating with it;

Upon glancing at the shelves around him, Song Jian saw that a faint golden barrier floated on the surface of every shelf. This barrier seems to mean that the books here couldn’t be touched casually;

Looking around, the library was wide but there were hardly any people. It seemed like the library’s staff outnumbered the readers;

As Song Jian approached the central golden sphere, a soft female voice echoed in his mind.” How may I assist you?”

Startled, Song Jian asked the huge golden sphere in front of him, “Are you the one speaking to me?”

“Yes, I am the librarian. You can tell me anything you need!”

Song Jian hesitated for a moment before asking, “Do you have any information or skill books on the Swordsman Immortal profession here?”

After a moment, the female voice in his head spoke again, “We have thirtysix books regarding the Swordsman Immortal profession available, including ‘Top Ten Unique Professions’, ‘Origins of the Swordsman Immortal Profession’, ‘Swordsman Immortal Beginner’s Guide’, among others. Additionally, we have six skill books for the Swordsman Immortal profession. However, to access them, you’ll need the highest library management authority.”

“There are books about the Swordsman Immortal profession?” Song Jian’s face displayed surprise.

“Huh? Song Jian, do you need something?” Just as the startled Song Jian turned to leave, Dr. Kang Lin, who seemed to have finished his search, looked over curiously, “Oh, Cecilia told me to complete one of the library tasks. If I’m lucky, I might get a skill book…” Song Jian replied, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment;

“Well, since you managed to get into the library, you obviously meet the requirement to acquire knowledge. This is an opportunity, but today’s tasks have already been taken…” Kang Lin frowned slightly and thought for a while before suggesting, “How about this? I’ll assign you a task. Help me check the ninth-hundred-sixty-fifth shelf, third row from the top, sixth book from the left. Tell me the name of that book, and you’ll have completed the task. You can then randomly pick one book from the library’s millions of books.”

“Is it really that simple?” Song Jian asked excitedly;

Dr. Kang Lin carefully looked around, raised his index finger to his lips, motioning for him to be quiet;

System: Dr. Kang Lin has assigned you a temporary task to find a book, do you accept?

Accept!

Having accepted the task, Song Jian quickly headed toward the bookshelf;

Rows upon rows of bookshelves stood like a primeval jungle. However, each shelf had a clear number and were divided into several large sections. Following the sector numbers and shelf numbers, completing Dr. Kang Lin’s task would be quite easy;

Within a short while, Song Jian found the book Dr. Kang Lin had requested;

Although the golden light curtain prevented Song Jian from physically touching the books, it didn’t prevent the viewing of the books’ titles. The book’s title, ‘On the Feasibility of Fusing Space Magic and Time Magic’, was clearly written on the side;

Running back, he told Dr. Kang Lin the title of the book. Dr. Kang Lin flashed a smile and said, “Congratulations on completing the task, now let’s see how lucky you are.”

After speaking, Dr. Kang Lin waved his hand, causing a semi-transparent roulette wheel to appear before Song Jian; it was filled with various books and scrolls;
