Chapter 570: Chapter 570: The Lady of the City Lord
City of Sin City Lord Mansion
At this time, the City Lord Mansion was heavily guarded, with soldiers stationed every few steps. Almost all the finest soldiers in the City of Sin were dispatched here.
“How’s the old man doing?” a woman in luxurious clothes, sitting in the lord’s seat, casually asked as she sipped from her wine glass.
“Madam, the city lord is still unconscious, and Suravi is constantly at his side,” a frail doctor answered with a trembling voice.
A wild look flashed in the woman’s eyes, and her gaze turned fierce. She said contemptuously, “This old bastard sure knows how to hang on…”
This woman was Onika, the new wife of Kayne, the lord of the City of Sin. Ever since she married him, Kayne’s health gradually declined until he became bedridden and unconscious.
The doctor, trembling with fear and keeping his gaze lowered, did not dare to utter a word. He wished he could cover his ears. Ever since the city lord fell into a coma, his wife had become more unbridled. The doctor feared he might hear too much and hence, become silenced permanently.
“Get out and remember to keep your mouth shut. If I hear any bad rumors, your entire family will be annihilated,” Onika said, a hint of a bloodthirsty glow in her eyes.
“Y-Yes, I dare not…” the doctor murmured, clutching his medicine box, and ran cowered out of the City Lord Mansion.
“It’s so boring. When will I actually become the master of this castle?” Onika muttered to herself as she caressed the lord’s chair with a tinge of melancholy.
When Kayne was healthy, he used to sit here and discuss important matters with his subordinates. This was a seat reserved only for the city lord.
“Ha-ha, the Blood Queen, are you struggling even with a mere human?” A man whispered into Onika’s ear. Suddenly, her hair began to dance as though in the wind, wildly twisting and twirling.
A giant brown bat flew in through the window, transforming into a man in a red suit. He had fair skin, a face bearing a trace of decadence, and ruby eyes that hinted at a violent temperament.
Just as he appeared, Onika vanished from sight. In an instant, her pale right hand grabbed his neck and slammed him against the wall. An ‘oomph’ sound echoed, and the man crumbled against the wall, causing several cracks to appear. His body made crunching noises as though bones snapping, and bloody froth spilled from his mouth. His once handsome face was now a ghastly sight, as crimson fangs slipped through his parted lips.
“When did a mere viscount dare to play the fool before me?” As Onika spoke, a pair of silver fangs glimmered while her eyes were bathed in a bloody glow.
“Onika, are you betraying the Dark Council Alliance?” the man roared furiously.
“The Dark Council Alliance?” Onika gave a disdainful smile. The hand holding the man’s neck gradually turned pale and shriveled. Her nails grew sharply, piercing into his neck.
“When I fully control the City of Sin, even the Elder Council of the Alliance will grovel at my feet!” Onika howled, thrusting the man onto the hard floor.
As the man was about to hit the floor, his body dissolved into countless fist-sized bats and flew to the other side of the hall.
Onika raised her left hand, but after a moment of hesitation, slowly lowered it back down. Her murderous aura did not fade away.
“Speak. What is the Elder Council up to now?” Onika glared at the man, now restored to human form.
The man touched the wound on his neck, his face twisting with resentment. Lifting his head, he coldly said, “The council is dissatisfied with your slow progress of taking control of the City of Sin. They hope you can speed up!”
“Ha! Whose fault is that?” Onika sneered. “Half a year ago, I reported to the Elder Council that if we could kill Suravi, Kayne’s wizard, I could easily become the master of this city. But how did that turn out?”
Onika returned to her previous elegant demeanor, took a leisurely stroll up to the lord’s seat, and sat down. She had the sophistication of a noble lady and radiated the charm of a mature woman.
The man couldn’t help but admire how she effortlessly switched between bloodthirsty ferocity and gentle nobility. But he had a mission to accomplish, that was to convey the decision of the Dark Council Alliance’s Elder Council to Onika.
“Over the past half a year, the council has dispatched many assassins for nine assassination attempts.” The man’s face was grim as he gnashed his teeth, “But not a single mission succeeded. Moreover, not one of these assassins returned alive!”
“The council suspects there’s something wrong with your information, leading to the failure of…” The man’s words were cut short by Onika’s screech, “That’s your incompetence! Suravi is just a thirty-fifth level wizard with first-tier combat power. Even if there are discrepancies in his level, he definitely does not possess second-tier combat power!”
“But three of the assassins who targeted him were fifty-level powerhouses with second-tier combat power!” The man stepped forward, growling lower.
This left Onika speechless. She panted heavily, her chest heaving.
After a long silence, she slowly said, “He must have a secret weapon that we are unaware of, a hidden secret!”
“These are all your problems!” the man said coldly, “If you fail again this time, the Elder Council will no longer tolerate you. They’ll not only punish you for this, but they’ll also hold you accountable for the deaths of those assassins!”
“They dare to!” Onika stood up abruptly, her powerful aura bursting out. Even the man couldn’t help but retreat.
“Even without the City of Sin, I am still the lord of the City of Blood. Those stinky, decaying elders want me to withdraw from the Dark Council Alliance! Ha-ha-ha!” Onika laughed hysterically.
