Chapter 150: Reaching the Boss Area of the River!
Chapter 150: Reaching the Boss Area of the River!
[Your level has increased to level 39, granting you two skill points and boost in stats]
After a few minutes, Stark encountered two more [Shadow Bears], which were easily disposed off and allowed him to continue walking through the rift.
There was no reason to keep waiting around these parts, he did that for a moment yet no monster was coming out of the river, meaning he needed to advance.
At this point, Stark just wanted to reach the boss to gain a big amount of experience as a last resort before being teleported, there was no other solution as [Classifier B] was already level 49, and he sure as hell wasn't going to wait for him as he didn't care.
The other 9 classifiers could also probably also check his level, so it was even funnier to ruin him like that.
'...' Stark didn't mind, he just needed to reach level 40 at least, and then it wouldn't matter much anymore as he would just need to try harder than any of them.
[You have slain a "Shadow Wolf lv96", gaining 131029EXP!]
[You have slain a "Giant Shadow Beetle lv94, gaining 119282EXP!]
[You have slain a "Shadow Fish lv93", gaining 112440EXP!]

[Experience: 728312/843000]
'One more...' he only needed one more monster before reaching level 40, and then what would need to happen would happen, he didn't have any control over it anymore.
But surprisingly...
'Where are the monsters,' it had been a few minutes, and for the first time the river didn't send anything at him.
~TAP, TAP~
'Where...' a few minutes passed while Stark traversed the mist, which seemed to become denser as he continued.
But no signs of monsters anymore.
It was almost like...
[The River doesn't feel like stopping you anymore, directly fight the boss!]
As expected, the fact the river mobilized most of its resources (monsters) at the start of the rift because of the sheer amount of classifiers there, plus the fact Stark would just kill anything that it sent, resulted in the river not seeing any point in wasting beasts on that boy.
Basically... having him fight and die at the boss is the best solution for it, which is why it stopped.
'WHY SO CLOSE...!' for the first time since entering this rift, Stark was angry, he had been so close, and now he was forced to waste more time and risk more just to level up once.
His luck was terrible, no matter how you think about it.
[Follow the river to reach the boss area]
As if mocking him, a panel appeared and explained exactly what he needed to do.
[I would hurry if I was you.]
[Classifier B: Level 49/50]
'...'
Stark sighed and began to run next to the river.
And just as expected, that shitty river didn't bother sending a single additional monster.
"You're soooo scared, aren't you!?" Stark tried to taunt it several times while running.
"Aura Smash," he even sent some attacks, but they just disappeared into the abyss of the water.
He almost felt crazy talking to an inanimate object and expecting it to follow what he wanted it to do with the threat of violence.
"Look at you, pathetic river, you are WEAK!" he almost had the silly idea of jumping inside the water and looking for the monsters inside himself, but in retrospect it did seem very dumb.
~FWISH, SPLASH~
In response to all his insults and attacks though, the river of souls actually responded by sending a large chunk of black water toward the boy, hitting him straight on as he didn't expect that.
'...' the water that touched him actually had some souls faces on it, but there was no strange feeling whatsoever, except for of course the feeling of being wet, 'Sigh...'
Stark couldn't really fight a river (although he would have loved to), so he just kept going forward, sensing that the boss area was close.
The river after the first attack began to repeatedly throw its water on Stark as to annoy him.
And honestly, it wouldn't have bothered him if not for ONE simple thing.
[Hit by 'Souls Water', slowed for ten seconds...]
Each time he was hit by that black water, he would receive the 'slow' effect, which massively reduced his speed and could make him go from running at full speed to just slowly walking toward his destination.
It was as if... the river knew that he couldn't afford to waste a single second, yet still tried to fuck him over.
The faces of souls on the reflection of the water could be seen laughing repeatedly.
'...!'
[Do not leave the river, or else the mist will completely disorient you!]
And in addition to that, if he left the river for even one second out of his view while heading toward the mist, it would disappear and take time to find his way back again.
Basically... this rift was possibly the worst match ever in this situation.
'If only I could see another monster...' Stark's anger grew more as he continued to run, avoiding the rays of water sent from the river.
[You are close...]
But right as this panel appeared, another one did as well to shatter those futile hopeful thoughts of his.
[Classifier B is 350,000EXP away from leveling up!]
'FUCK THAT SHIT,' he increased the tempo and now was so fast the river couldn't even hit him.
Yet, it wouldn't summon ANY monsters, and the face of the souls were still laughing, their laughter sounding muffled from beyond the water, yet still hearable from Stark's position.
But...
[You have arrived.]
Right before him stood a 10x10 meters circular hole, that same black water with faces staring at him, although those weren't laughing.
[Boss Area: The Pond of Souls]
[JUMP!]
Under normal circumstances, Stark would have hesitated jumping inside of a suspicious looking pool of water to reach somewhere.
But...
'...' this time, Stark didn't hesitate for even a single second.
The moment he spotted the water, and the crimson panels instructed him on what to do, he immediately focused his entire mind on the task ahead and jumped inside of the [Pond of Souls].
~FWISH~
The moment he did, a weird feeling took over his body as it felt like cold hands were grabbing him: and they were.
When he looked down, he saw white ghost-like hands come from the abyss below and grab his legs/knees, pulling him down.
Stark didn't resist for a single second, letting himself sink as to not waste time.
~FWISH~
He was pulled by the hands very fast, traversing the very deep black water without any issues, and reaching the abyss in a matter of seconds without even feeling dizzy or scared.
Stark was truly locked in.
