Chapter 28: Exam Part 2
"Oh one more thing! You have only 2 hours to do as much as you can! There will be a large projected clock in the sky so you can see how much time you have left. Good luck!" The teacher said sending them off.
Once the teacher said that the exam had begun Kaden and his group ran inside of the forest and began making their way toward whatever beast they might be able to find, "Stick together!" Said Ken from the front of the group.
They had already set up their formation with those doing defense at the very front leading the way and the rest in the back running behind them. Essentially it was a blind charge towards whatever was waiting in the forest. Maybe it was the adrenaline or maybe it was the excitement of the exam but taking the time to walk through each area and look for any danger wasn't present in any of their minds. The only thought was that of finding a beast before another team did.
Their efforts were not in vain as after around 10 minutes of searching they came across a small clearing in the middle of the forest. In this clearing, there was a large green beast that was coiled inside itself looking as if it was sleeping. It looked like a normal everyday snake beside the fact that it was larger than two buses.
"That thing is ginormous!" Ken said in awe as everyone took a good look from the edge of the clearing.
"How are we supposed to kill that thing?! We don't even know its rank!" Timmy said getting slightly afraid and shivering.
"We have the power to take down this beast. If you look above its head, it seems that the school has put their name and rank above it." Ashly said speaking up from the back.
At this point, the rest of the group looked at the floating text that hovered right above the beast's head.
[Rattler]
[Rank: F-]
"Since when did that get there?" Ken asked surprised by the floating text.
"It has been there the entire time you were just too focused on the beast itself," Ashly said berating Ken.
Knowing that Ashly was telling the truth Ken couldn't help but scratch his head, "Yeah that's true my bad." He said apologizing.
"How should we go about taking this one down?" Emma said speaking up for the first time.
The entire group then took a second to think it over before Kaden came up with a plan, "I don't think our original plan will work with this one. I think if we were to surprise attack it with everything we've got while it's still asleep we should be able to do enough damage to take it out." Kaden said giving his thoughts for the first time as well.
The group then thought his plan over for a moment before agreeing to it thinking that it was the best course of action, 'At least with this I can help somehow in the early stages of the exam.' Kaden thought as he began making his way towards the Rattler with the rest of the group.
Once the group was close enough to the Rattler Timmy and Sky summoned their weapons with one of their abilities. Timmy had a bright silver sword while Sky had a dagger in each hand. They then placed themselves at the face of the sleeping Rattler and waited for the signal from Ashly who was at the chest of the Rattler with her own powers that were erupting from her hands with a purple light.
"NOW!" Ashly screamed suddenly and the group sprang into action.
Timmy and Sky immediately stabbed their weapons into the two eyes of the Rattler while Ashly hit its body with the purple light making the spot where the light hit burn and make it pour out green blood. Ken then also began bashing its body with his shield that he summoned making huge indents in its body that also poured blood while Kaden and Emma were on opposite sides of the Rattler to relay information to each other that the others couldn't see.
Once all of the attacks connected to the Rattler it roused from its sleep waking up in extreme pain but could not see its attackers at all. It then tried to move its body and realized that only the top half was listening to it so it then began to panic and try to wiggle away from whatever was attacking it but it was futile as seconds later two weapons pierced its head killing it.
"Well that went smoothly," Kaden commented as the group reconvened at the mouth of the Rattler.
"I agree, good job everyone," Ken added with a big smile that was also on everyone else's faces besides Timmy.
Realizing that Timmy had a strange face Emma was the first to question it, "What's wrong Timmy." She asked with her fake concerned face.
Timmy shook slightly at her words but he managed to voice his words albeit barely, "How are you guys so calm? We just killed a creature." He said genuinely confused.
However, the answer he got surprised him even more than the reaction they had to killing in the first place.
I've killed before. -Sky
Me too. -Emma
They would have eaten us if we didn't kill them first. Plus, these are the things that have made the world the way it is today so why should I flinch over killing it. -Kaden
Agreed. -Ken
Timmy just stood there with his jaw slightly opened and just ended up sighing, "What kind of team did I end up on." He said almost crying.
"A good one." Kaden said before turning around and making his way back towards the corpse of the snake. Floating slightly above the snake and replacing the text from before was a little white orb that had a line connecting to the body of the Rattler.
It was the soul of the Rattler.
