Chapter 116 Watching People Die
Chapter 116 Watching People Die
?The pillar of blood gradually faded to reveal a devil of slaughter dressed in red robes. However, while the image of the moon and the sun were on his right and left shoulders respectively, there were no stars in his eyes nor a night black cape on his back, only a dense collection of silver embroidery in an ancient script unknown was embedded into the robes.
Some of the blood even went to soak the blade of the sword to the hilt, giving it an intricate crimson design. Leonardo could feel his blood boiling over, his body itching, and an unspeakable drive to engage in a fierce battle.
The High Saint's pupils dilated. Then, with a snort, he turned his back to Leonardo and rushed off in a random direction to avoid implicating his army in the shockwaves of the ensuing battle.
Leonardo had a cruel smile on his face as he rushed right after the High Saint.
A few moments after their departure, the space shook momentarily.
That shaking was the signal Wendy was waiting for as she then took a deep breath and rushed into the formation of the invading saints like a gust of wind. With a bang, she forcibly entered within range of their overlapping domains that had just been erected not too long ago.
At first, she felt a heavy burden weighing down on her body. However, when the energies of these domains flooded inside her due to the lack of a protective membrane of worldly energy around her figure, they were quickly devoured by her anti-matter martial intent. Instead, they actually converted into pure worldly energy that seemed to ever-so-slightly hasten her physique's transformation.
"Little girl, don't go too far!" Roared one of the saints who just snapped out of a daze when the High Saint brought Leonardo away. Furious at how their lives were discussed as nothing more than whetstones to Leonardo's disciple, he took the lead in charging out.
As he did so, he trampled on the bodies of the dead hidden tribe warriors, deliberately knocking away the heads of the men while stomping down the chests of the women, his eyes red with a fit of crazed anger.
"You vile barbarians who should have gone extinct actually dare stand against my army? You're no more than trash discarded to this garbage dump of a forsaken land. Even your own planet abandoned you, yet here you are playing the gallant warriors before me?!"
When Wendy was within clear earshot range due to the ruckus caused by the rumbling thunderstorm, this third-cycle saint, a general of the army, actually kicked off a young man's head off the floor and towards Wendy, laughing as he did so.
Typically, his mere stomp of the foot should have been enough to blast his head into pieces, but he enjoyed the twisted sensation of thrill when disgracing his enemies and their families. He knew this head that shot out like a projectile would most likely miss its mark, but so what?
It was the thought invested in his actions that mattered.
Thud!
Unexpectedly, the head smashed right into Wendy's chest. No, more accurately, she received the kicked head into her bosom in a daze, its cold and congested blood staining her white robes red.
Bang!
A violent tempest of wind spiraled away with Wendy in its center. It was truly an artistic scene.
She halted her charge, feet nailed to the ground as perhaps only her delicate fingers and colorful eyelashes trembled offbeat to the rhythm of this silence. Her eyes reflected a face she was intimately familiar with; Jonathan, whom they referred to as Little John.
She couldn't help but stiffly move her neck and look in the direction of his corpse to see that his brute-like body was lying limp on top of someone else, someone she recognized as well. That was her other friend, Lihua.
Although from Wendy's perspective, the world seemed to come to a crawling halt, those were only her emotions playing with her senses and perception. In fact, everything was just fine, and a saint was nonetheless approaching her with a lascivious expression in his eyes. He hoped to kill this woman, but if he could subdue this female who had a touch of the wild barbaric temperament and a trace of modern elegance, not to mention her status as that person's disciple, it would be well worth it.
Just as his hand clawed at Wendy's delicate neck, her leg kicked out in a strange angle following the blind spot in the shadow of the saint's extended right arm, the bridge of her left foot slamming into the crook of his neck.
Due to the lack of spiritual energy and worldly energy fluctuations, it was already too late when the saint came to notice Wendy's attack. Moreover, her attack was solely physical, ignoring the protective membrane of worldly energy.
Bang!
Dust and debris blew into the air. When everything settled, Wendy stood there hugging Little John's head in her arms, a third-cycle saint twitching in pain beneath her feet.
While her energy cultivation was pitiful, the saint forgot that these people cultivated the body and not the energy, catching him off guard. Even though his body was slammed into the dusty ground, the only thing he felt was a slight buzz in his mind whilst his thoughts were now a jumbled mess.
Wendy's little feet were now covered in blood, mud, and crusts of stone as she retreated from the saint on the ground to deliver Little John's head back to Patriarch Ye who didn't dare to look her in the eye.
Ultimately, he sighed.
He thought for a moment and said, "I think Leonardo could have saved them, but he chose to stand aside and watch."
Based on his judgment, since Leonardo was standing in front of the barrier, he was probably aware of the developments on the battlefield, and only chose to intervene when the direction of the fighting was drawing near to his position.
"Teacher must have his reasons."
Wendy was silent for a moment before responding in an indifferent tone. Although she felt pained and dissatisfied inside at the idea of Leonardo simply standing to the side and watching her people getting killed, she ultimately decided that he must have a reason behind doing so.
"You snide whore!" The saint climbed to his feet, cracking his twisted neck back in place with a horrendous expression as he growled. "You just wasted your only opportunity to kill me, I won't be careless the next time."
He felt scared as that was a close call. Honestly, one wrong step and it might be a one-way ticket down the abyss of no return.
"I truly find it hilarious. All of you are so gifted with these powerful bodies, many of my men should have died long ago, but you people simply don't know how to actually kill people, don't you?"
"What? Was that little fella someone important to you? He was actually pretty strong. Do you know how many people he killed from my men? Ha, let me think about it… Absolutely no one! What a retard!"
"He actually spared everyone he defeated, and with that fucking smile, he joins another battle. Eventually, he came to help that stupid woman, unaware that everyone he previously defeated decided to join hands and encircle him."
"Hahaha! He actually dared to say something like he doesn't fight someone he already defeated once, they're not worth his time, and they should actually go back to train some more! Hahaha! Do you believe that?! What is this?! A fucking friendly competition?! Hahaha!"
"Then, while he was preaching some fucking morals, his bitch tried to take the initiative to attack while he ended up blocking her path. Then, then, hahaha, I can't anymore! They both died arguing! Hahaha!"
Everyone on the invading army's side burst out laughing. Then, one by one, they began to recount their experiences while fighting the young warriors of the hidden tribes.
"I understand now," Wendy muttered while she reached out to cut a stalk of Little John's hair, using it to tie her own hair into a ponytail while walking back to the lively battlefield.
It was a battlefield rowdy with laughter and zeal, it almost seemed like an outdoor party. While the general was busy laughing his ass off after retreating to Little John and Lihua's bodies, stomping them repeatedly, a deputy general rushed in to block Wendy from approaching to retrieve the two corpses.
However, he wasn't too worried as these people were seemingly too tender. They value life so much that they only started killing in a moment of fury after the High Saint's attack. Then, their deeply rooted respect towards life took over once more.
"Haha! Little girl, I- pfft!"
Wendy wasn't in the mind to sit and listen to these taunts. In fact, she could guess why her teacher would sit and watch these warriors die. It was probably a message to her that, if she didn't even have the resolve to kill those who aim for her life, she might as well drop dead here and now.
The saint didn't expect this young-looking woman to actually aim for the kill without a beat of hesitation. He looked down, horrified.
A delicate hand plunged deep into his chest, tender fingers crowned by five sharp multicolored nails that clutched his beating heart and ripped it off to the outside world.
