Chapter 318: Immortals, Immortal Funnel
Chapter 318: Immortals, Immortal Funnel
****
Meanwhile, in a fairy-like land located in a mystical place beyond the stars, an immortal sat underneath a raging waterfall.
Listening to the vibrant sounds of nature that surrounded him, his body looked like it hadn't moved an inch in countless years.
However, out of nowhere, both the raging waterfall and a plethora of animal sounds seemed to freeze in time. Then, like a statue suddenly gaining consciousness, the immortal opened his eyes, revealing a gaze that contained the many profundities of a Dao beyond the comprehension of a mortal's insignificant brain.
"Ho..?"
With a voice that caused even the atmosphere to bend and mold into its sound waves, he got up off the ground. He then stared at a space below him.
Seemingly searching around for something and finding nothing useful, his expression morphed into a contemplative one. "It does appear that another Enigma has been born. But this one is beyond even my sight. And for that to be possible…" Suddenly, he shot his head in the direction of a floating golden palace that sat perpendicular to his.
Then, with a slight pull of his body, he appeared above the palace.
Looking around for a good friend of his, the immortal eventually caught sight of a middle-aged man with an extraordinary appearance. "Ling Chao, perhaps he will know more about this occurrence." Phasing to an area right in front of Ling Chao, he waited for his friend to finish the cross-dimensional game of chess that he was playing.
However, in the midst of his game, Ling Chao said, "Ya know, Fang Ju. The immortal I'm competing against is the one that beat you in the last Immortal Gathering. And from what I can tell, his skills have definitely improved, haha." Like an aloof immortal, Ling Chao stroked his beard, carefully placing his hands on a galaxy-colored board.
After an amount of time that couldn't be properly measured by human standards, Ling Chao ultimately came out on top. Swiping his hand, he whisked the dimensional board away from its place on the table.
Thereafter, he looked toward the slightly younger Fang Ju. And as if he already knew what his junior had come for, he said, "The Enigma in that particular High-Mortal Realm has a rather special background. In fact, it is partly because of that background that he could completely conquer a Seventh Layered Plane of Infinity before turning 1 million years old. Jajaja, he is quite the impressive one."
Despite his senior playing it off as nothing much, Fang Ju knew exactly what this level of talent implied for the 'Eternal Jade Heavens'.
"If this Enigma is special among his kind, and he has been born under our jurisdiction, does that mean we can use him to progress the Eternal Jade Heaven's Immortal Realm further into the Immortal Funnel…?"
Hearing Fang Ju's question, Ling Chao entered a rather profound state. "The Immortal Funnel, eh…? Our Immortal Realm has been stuck at the edges of such a construct for too many years to count. Unless this Enigma is something truly exceptional, it is highly unlikely that his existence will alter the course of that trend."
The Immortal Funnel.
As the name implies, it was something akin to a funnel. And for the Immortal Realms, it was more like a race track.
With all Immortal Realms swirling around inside this tunnel, their goals were all the same: to go further and deeper into the Immortal Tunnel.
No one knew why they wanted to reach the very center of the Immortal Funnel. But what they did know was that their life's greatest purpose was to make it to the center of the funnel.
-
'To be speaking about the Immortal Funnel, hmm… I guess it could be possible that our position could move a tad bit closer to the depths.'
'But there is also a chance that our position could regress because of the existence of a mysterious Enigma.'
Even Ling Chao was not clear on the exact details of the Enigma in one of the many countless High-Mortal Realms. All he knew was that the Enigma was either related to a current immortal or an immortal from the past. As for where this immortal resided or what their realm was, Ling Chao was completely in the dark.
In the end, he heaved an ancient sigh before saying, "You needn't bother yourself with this matter, Fang Ju. For it is only within the hands of fate that our destinies are weaved out. And whether that be in resplendence or dimness, the universe will ultimately balance things into place."
"...There you go again, speaking as if you are some Immortal Prophet from the Immortal Confucius Faction." Same as his senior, Fang Ju heaved a sigh. However, it was more because of the personality of his senior brother than the matter involving the Enigma.
Suddenly recalling something, he lightly shook his head and said, "Say, do you know where the Master is?"
"The master?" Speaking of that title, Ling Chao felt a shiver crawl down his spine. Then, with a foolish expression, he said, "The master… Maybe he is out and about with another Immortal Fairy from the Immortal Fairy Realm? Who really knows, hah!"
"..."
Listening to the ridiculous yet plausible response made by his senior brother, Fang Ju sighed for what felt like the tenth time in the past 1 trillion eons.
"That master of ours is the ruler of an entire Immortal Realm, and yet he conducts himself in such a manner… Does he truly not have any shame?"
Feeling that he had already been away from his cultivation for far too long, Fang Ju quickly returned to his Floating Palace. Forgetting about the peculiar matter with the Enigma, he instead focused on his immortal cultivation.
As his junior brother acted as industrious as ever, Ling Chao's face suddenly darkened. Then, with a sling of his golden-lined sleeves, he attempted to find any trace of the Enigma's presence in the High-Mortal Realm termed 'Mortal's Cavern'.
However, even after searching for a few minutes, nothing was found…
"It would appear that the Enigma has already surpassed the limits of the High-Universal Realm and has ascended into Hell's Paradise. At his current rate of progression, he will soon ascend to the Immortal Realm as well. And if that happens…" An evil smirk crept up Ling Chao's face as he knew just how to make use of this unknown variable.
With an Evil Cultivator disguised as a Righteous Cultivator and his hand having many parts to play in the future advancement of the Enigma, said Enigma was currently…
