Chapter 392 Primary Law Of Darkness

Chapter 392 Primary Law Of Darkness

As William descended the cave seemingly unimpeded, the red Rat Snake became a bit nervous. Its purpose was to guard the Superior Darkness Vein at any cost, but it could sense that the human was a true monster.

As a mutated Beast that had lived underground for a very long time, the Mutated Rat Snake had developed a keen sense of smell and hearing, and its ability to detect one's strength had been honed to an almost impossible level.

That said, when the Beast looked at William, it saw an overwhelming amount of Mana stored within the man's body, while his physical body seemed to be tougher than any material found on Efretta.

The Mutated Rat Snake found itself retreating before William even entered the main cavern opening, reducing its massive frame of five hundred meters to one meter long and sliding into a secret passage it had a subordinate create almost four-thousand years prior.

William walked right by the Superior Darkness Vein, which was a massive ball of black Mana. Protecting it were seven streams of dim light that resembled Darkness Mana but wasn't quite the same.

William passed his hand through the dark light, which turned out to be a big mistake. Just like his first interaction with Space Magic inside Array Master Fowley's room, William's hand was disintegrated in an instant, the base of the wrist spewing blood at a rapid pace.

What more, William's Recovery Talent didn't activate for almost ten seconds, as if it was delayed by something. The dark light continued to flow forward, as if William's hand had never passed through it at all.

What is that, System?

-Oh, now you want to ask? Are you stupid or something?

I just...

-You didn't want to waste Potential Points. I'm well aware of your antics.

...Fuck. William really couldn't compete with the System at all.

-To answer your question, that is the Primary Law of Darkness.

That's a Law? William looked at the stream of dark light in surprise.

No wonder he didn't understand anything about it. It was on a completely different level compared to the Domain or Territory of Darkness. Even if he committed a hundred percent of his defensive strength to protecting his body, William wondered if he could survive more than a few seconds.

Wasn't he still weak, then? Compared to the Primary Law of Darkness, William was nothing!

-Don't feel that way. There's more to it than you think.

Like what?

-Raise the Comprehension of your Elements and you'll naturally understand.

Can't I just use the Ask Function?

-You can, but I won't tell you.

Why not?

-Rules

Rules?

-Are you a parrot? Yes, rules.

William nodded in understanding. It seemed that the System had more limitations than he thought. Or maybe it was lying to him, who knows.

He ignored the stream of Primary Darkness Law and continued towards the Mutated Rat Snake that seemed to be hiding nearby. With a flick of his finger, a hidden alcove in the wall was opened, revealing the Mutated Rat Snake.

It had thought about escaping through the tunnel behind it multiple times, but seeing William approach the Superior Darkness Vein made something within it change and forced it to stay. If William dared to approach the Vein any further, the Mutated Rat Snake could tell that it would be forced to fight.

"Who are you, little guy?" William looked at the Mutated Rat Snake with a hint of playfulness. It seemed that Atticus wasn't the only one that could reduce his size so much.

"I am no one, but if you touch that World Core, I will have no choice but to destroy you." the Mutated Rat Snake glared at William, though it was currently very afraid.

"You're very threatening." William smiled as he sealed the Rat Snake's movements. The Mutated Snake struggled as hard as it could to move, but it was as if its entire body had been turned to stone, completely unable to resist.

"What did you do to me?" It asked when William allowed it to speak.

"Seal Element." William said simply. "Would you like to become my Companion Beast? You're very interesting."

-Cannot contract Magical Beast. Target already has a Master.

Already has a Master? Who?

-I don't know.

"Who's your master?" William asked the Mutated Rat Snake suddenly.

"My Master? I—" images flashed through the Rat Snake's mind of a woman with long red hair that flowed down to her waist. It was only an outline, but the Rat Snake could clearly tell that the woman was smiling.

Before the Mutated Rat Snake could answer, another series of images appeared, of a bright aura that couldn't be described as male or female. A humanoid figure condensed, but it was made up entirely of text that didn't make sense.

"I have two Masters." it replied.

William was confused. If it has two Masters, why can't it have a third?

-One Master is likely not a real Master, but their Grandmaster. The Mythical Rat Snake is probably mistaken... Wait.

Hmm?

-This Mutated Rat Snake... I can't tell how old it is.

William was even more confused at this point. How could the all-powerful System not know the details of a simple Magical Beast? It might be mutated and have two Masters, but the System knew almost everything, or so William thought.

"How old are you?" William asked. It was better to ask the Beast directly.

"One... two...? Maybe three?" it wondered out loud.

"Three thousand years?" William asked.

Your journey continues on empire

"No. Not at all. I can't remember clearly, but I think I'm around three hundred thousand years old." the Mutated Rat Snake replied simply.

Three hundred thousand?! William and the System had the same reaction.

-If that's the case, I think I know who its Master is.

You think? Will I be charged if you're only guessing?

-No need. I think its Master might be Efretta, the Goddess of the Mortal Realms.

Why do you think that? Didn't she Ascend already? Why would she leave her Companion Beast behind? William asked.

The System stayed silent. There were too many uncertainties, and too much time had passed. Anything could have happened during the System's dark period, and it didn't want to give William misinformation.

Also...

I can't tell him about that yet. the System thought to itself.

William didn't want to pick a fight with such a powerful being as Efretta, so he listened to the System and gave up on trying to contract the Mutated Rat Snake. That aside, he still asked for four of its scales, as the System mentioned it could be quite useful in the future.

Another month passed, and William finished absorbing every Lesser and Standard Vein on the Velos Continent, so he moved on to the Slyte Island Nation. There, William only had the Light and Order Veins to absorb, both of which didn't give him much trouble at all.

In fact, after absorbing the last Standard Order Vein, William's Order Element was automatically raised to S-Rank for free. He now had access to the Domain of Order, but the Element wouldn't listen to his commands and the Domain refused to open.

To say the least, it was William's most expensive and most useless Element.

Speaking of upgrades... I haven't checked my System Panel in a long time. William realized as he opened his Status for the first time in months.

POTENTIAL POINTS: 107,366,707

SYSTEM RANK: B+ (2,845,761PP to next rank)

"W-What?!" William exclaimed out loud. Last time he looked, it was merely a few million. How could it have climbed so much?

-Did you forget that the Dragonewts are worth a thousand Points each?
