Book 4: Chapter 75:1: Concert and Dessert, Part 1

Soon, the musicians made their way onto the stage. The conductor, Giles Brent, walked to the center of the stage, holding a baton in his white-gloved hands.

The concert started.

For some reason, the surrounding people seemed intoxicated when the concert formally started, but Chen Heng did not feel the same. He only found the music pleasant, nothing else.

After all, a concert was far inferior to the means of cultivators in bringing one into a land of one’s imagination.

When Chen Heng was young, his parents had brought him to watch a music cultivator competition.

The scene there was simply like demons dancing about.

There were zither players who could make illusions of feathers falling from the sky as they played. There were piano players who sent one into an illusory world, making one feel one was on a mountaintop or in flowing water. An unknown young man could draw over phoenixes to dance as he played the flute. There was even a person whose suona playing made one feel like one’s parents had died; those who heard him play cried.

Later on, the organizers chased away the suona player.

The suona player had self-awarely followed the organizer out. Otherwise, he might not have survived that day.

There had been a powerhouse present whose parents had recently died. That powerhouse had finally recovered from his grief after much difficulty but ended up crying because of the suona playing. Fortunately, the suona player left quickly. Otherwise, leaving would have been impossible.

The suona player’s music had nearly caused his death.

Although Chen Heng felt nothing much, Nightingale and Skadi liked the music, closing their eyes in enjoyment.

As Nightingale listened, her hand fidgeted and drifted towards Chen Heng. Fortunately, he had his arms crossed. Otherwise, she would have gotten her way.

Just as everyone was immersed in the music, a loud explosion rang out, disrupting the orchestra’s rhythm.

This disrupted not only the orchestra’s rhythm but also the conductor’s.

Then a group of people rushed over, targeting the conductor on stage.

Jolted to their senses by the explosion, the audience panicked. Pandemonium erupted in the concert hall.

While the people beneath the stage held high statuses, they did not possess high combat prowess. These were privileged people of importance. How could one count on them to rescue the conductor?

Anyone in their right mind would not hope for such a thing. After all, just protecting themselves would be uncertain.

“What are you people thinking?”

“Mister Noble, don’t be afraid. We won’t harm you; we just want to invite you to our place as a guest.”

Giles Brent was not just a famous conductor but also a Victorian noble of high status.

Chen Heng had said this situation might result in a diplomatic incident because of this identity.

“What a rude bunch of people!” The conductor did not panic like the people below. After all, what had he not seen as a noble? He had been kidnapped several times already.

The nobles had their difficulties too. Their lives were not as wonderful as ordinary people would imagine.

Although most of the people in the audience started to flee, a few stayed put. Chen Heng’s group was among them.

Chen Heng stayed because of his confidence. These insignificant bandits could not even touch his hair. Skadi stayed because of the same confidence in her strength. Even without her sword, she could beat up these kidnappers like little children. Nightingale stayed purely because she trusted Chen Heng to protect her.

As for the rest, they had bodyguards. That’s right. These people brought bodyguards even when listening to music. They had spent the money on tickets for several people to have these bodyguards by their sides.

These kidnappers did not let the blood rush to their heads and target these people. After all, it would be better to have fewer problems.

Chen Heng watched quietly from his front-row seat. Then he looked at Ch’en, Swire, and some other Lungmen Guard Department members, who were preparing to jump off the stage lighting above.

These two truly used an unusual method.

Perhaps they trusted Chen Heng’s prophetic ability, but they had already hidden above the stage before the concert started. That was why he occasionally glanced up while listening to the music.

Hidden above, these people had already readied ropes. They all rappeled down in less than three seconds. Some of them, including Ch’en, landed beside the conductor to protect him. The others landed behind the kidnappers for a sneak attack. All this happened without them saying a word, merely using hand gestures.

Ch’en whistled, and more Lungmen Guard Department members immediately came out from all sorts of hiding places, like behind the curtains and under the stage.

Shortly after, the Lungmen Guard Department members subdued the kidnappers, who had been caught off-guard.

Of course, Chen Heng helped a little. Otherwise, the Lungmen Guard Department members would suffer some injuries.

Chen Heng gently swiped his finger, using lightning to stun a kidnapper about to attack a Lungmen Guard Department member from behind.

Of course, Chen Heng did it in secret. At the very least, the ordinary Lungmen Guard Department members could not tell, although Ch’en and Swire might have noticed.

After achieving something, Chen Heng turned away and avoided credit. After seeing the kidnappers apprehended, he left with Skadi and Nightingale.

“How was it? Did you like it?”

“It was great. He lived up to being a famous conductor. His music could manipulate emotions, easily affecting people. Unfortunately, he did not get to complete the concert, leaving some regrets.” Nightingale seriously evaluated her experience of the concert.

“I felt nothing special, only that it sounded very pleasant.” Truly Skadi, indeed. She simply spoke bluntly.

“Since we’ve already listened to the music, let’s go. Besides listening to the concert, today’s plan includes eating all the famous desserts in Lungmen. Don’t worry; I have a special medicine that will strengthen your digestive systems and prevent you from getting fat.”

To achieve the goal of eating all of Lungmen’s desserts, he even sponsored two medicinal pills that could boost digestion, strengthen the stomach, and lose weight.
