Book 4: Chapter 9: Black and White Evil Demons
“I say, Miss Shining, did you send me to the blood bank to take revenge on me?” Chen Heng walked with Shining through the medical department without seeing where he was going. As he did so, he asked Shining why she sent him to the blood bank. He was indeed walking blindly, as the medical department was simply too complicated to navigate, dizzyingly so.
Shining’s footsteps paused for a moment at Chen Heng’s words. Then she resumed her normal walking pace. “You are overthinking. Every operator needs to deposit their blood in the blood bank. That’s why I brought you there.”
“…” Miss Shining, has anyone ever told you that you are bad at lying? Or did you not intend to hide it from me in the first place?
Well, it is time to hunt!
“Liz, what are you doing here?” Just as Chen Heng was about to clash with Shining, a white demon suddenly appeared around the corner. Yes, a white-colored evil demon.
This demon had the horns unique to the Sarkaz, but her entire body was nearly pure white. She gave off a strange beauty; rather, she had a gentleness that inspired others to protect her.
Speaking of which, Chen Heng felt this evil demon looked even more like an angel than Gabriel, that “faillen” angel.
Furthermore, Chen Heng noticed the girl Shining addressed as Liz had a problem with her leg. Her gait was slightly different from ordinary people’s. While ordinary people could not tell, who was Chen Heng?
“Ah! It’s Shining. I finally found you.” When Liz saw Shining, she felt pleasantly surprised. Then she quickened her pace, walking over.
“Why are you looking for me?” Shining was like a different person when facing Liz. She turned from a cold, aloof goddess to the girl next door. This was especially so for her smile; it nearly blinded Chen Heng.
“Of course, for lunch! It is noon already. Hibiscus said you took the new operator for a checkup. He is the one, right?” Liz shifted her gaze to Chen Heng, who had snatched Shining from her for a while.
“Hello, I’m He Who Knows Fate.”
“Nightingale.” This should be her code name, right? For some reason, the people of Terra like to go by code names. Nightingale’s attitude toward Chen Heng was starkly different from her attitude toward Shining, unwilling to even say hello.
[TL Note: Here are the profiles of Nightingale and Hibiscus: /wiki/Nightingale and /wiki/Hibiscus.]
Chen Heng did not extend his hand for a handshake, as he still did not know if shaking hands was an accepted practice here. What if it got mistaken for flirting? Lord Chen Heng’s reputation would be damaged. Moreover, he greatly suspected that even if handshakes were a thing here, Nightingale might not reciprocate if he extended his hand, so he would not seek humiliation.
“He Who Knows Fate, have you made your staff card? You need it to eat at the canteen.”
“Oh! It is done; this is it, right?” Chen Heng took out the staff pass Kal’tsit had prepared for him, and showed it to Shining and Nightingale.
Code Name: He Who Knows Fate
Operator Class: Sniper
Star: 6
Speaking of stars, Chen Heng only just noticed the two female operators in front of him were six-star Medics.
“This staff card is also your staff pass. Do wear it on your chest in the future.” Shining pointed to the staff pass hanging in front of her chest.
How big! No, they’re…never mind. They’re big.
“Got it.”
“It’s fine since it is done. Are you interested in going to the canteen with us? It’s on the way.” Perhaps Shining invited Chen Heng to the canteen because she felt guilty about sending him to the blood bank.
“Many thanks, then. I happen to be quite unfamiliar with Rhodes Island’s zones at the moment.”
If Chen Heng had to go to the canteen alone, he might not find it. Although he had gone to the canteen yesterday, Rhodes Island was quite extensive, and he had lost his bearings.
“Alright, let’s go, then.”
Although they went together, Chen Heng was just a third wheel. Shining and Nightingale—a white evil demon and a black evil demon—chatted as they walked. Of course, it was mainly Shining speaking and Nightingale listening while Chen Heng followed silently behind.
Truth be told, Shining and Nightingale looked very compatible with each other. One was black, and one was white, forming a black-and-white combination. Furthermore, they are evil demons who healed people. This was interesting. Doctors should be rare among Sarkaz, what more two six-star Medics.
If these two became idols…it would be interesting.
As Chen Heng walked, he glanced at Nightingale’s legs. However, it was not because her legs were nice, although her legs were nice. Anyway, that was not the main reason.
Chen Heng found it strange as he looked at Nightingale’s legs. Why can’t two six-star Medics cure Nightingale’s legs?
Furthermore, this world has Originium Arts, right?
“What are you looking at?”
“I’m looking at Nightingale’s legs.”
“Pervert.”
“Huh?” Chen Heng finally reacted. The ones who spoke were Nightingale and Shining. The three had already arrived at the canteen without him realizing it.
“Listen to me.” Chen Heng did not want to be called a pervert by his colleagues on his first day.
“What is there to explain? Pervert.” Nightingale did not want to listen to the explanation of a pervert who stared at her legs the whole way.
“…You.” Honestly speaking, Shining could tell Chen Heng was a skilled swordsman. Although he joined as a Sniper, a swordsman could not change certain habits. Most powerful swordsmen would have an indomitable will. Logically speaking, Shining should not suspect him.
However, Shining suddenly recalled what she saw at the blood bank.
“Can I explain?” Anything else would be fine; only the label of perverted had to be avoided. This was an insult to Chen Heng’s character, trampling on his dignity.
Of course, the most important thing was such matters would quickly reach Kal’tsit’s ears. If Kal’tsit mentioned it in the chat group, the noble and righteous image he spent a lot of time setting up would be ruined.
“Please begin your performance.”
“I’ll give you one chance.” Shining decided to give Chen Heng a chance because she trusted her swordswoman’s instinct.
“Right. Actually, while you two led the way, I was walking behind and noticed Nightingale’s gait seemed somewhat strange. Your leg probably suffered an injury, right?”
“That’s right. Continue.”
“Then I wondered, why can’t you two six-star Medics heal Miss Nightingale’s legs? Or is there some significance to this injury?”
“What significance can there be to an injury? If we could heal it, we would have done so long ago. Healing Liz’s leg injury has nothing to do with how many stars we have as Medics.”
