Book 6: Chapter 25:2: World Consciousness’s Malicious Intent, Part 2
The moment the countdown ended, the Special Affairs Bureau activated the high-power ability suppressor device. Its effects instantly blanketed the entire school, including the school’s immediate surroundings.
Chen Heng watched as two disguised ability users who hadn’t fled lost their cover, reverting to their original appearances, and screamed while clutching their heads.
While under the device’s suppression, one would feel like a needle stabbed one in the head when using abilities. Ordinary people or ability users not using their abilities would not react, feeling normal.
Unfortunately, the ability suppressor device did not have much of an effect on Chen Heng. Right now, he used his gravity ability to lessen the gravitational forces acting on him just to test the ability suppressor device’s effectiveness on him.
The result showed that after two ability awakenings by the Dimension Administrators Association, the ability suppressor devices could barely affect him. At most, it was like an itch, nothing more.
Chen Heng got a headache yesterday only because the ability suppressor device had been too close to his future self when he used the Absolute Precognition to see his future self taking the exams. If ordinary ability users tried to use their abilities in such close proximity, a headache would be the least of their problems. Chen Heng would feel respect if they could remain conscious after that.
The government-employed ability users swarmed in on all the ability users who reacted. They took away the people who were substituting for examinees. Those examinees using abilities were not arrested; however, the Special Affairs Bureau would pay special attention to them.
Ability users were not evil people. The Special Affairs Bureau was trying to capture people using abilities to cheat, but the exam had not started yet, so they would not arrest people for simply using an ability.
Chen Heng even noticed Jiang Cheng among the Special Affairs Bureau’s ability users. However, he immediately averted his gaze the moment he saw Jiang Cheng. Ability users had sensitive perceptions. Chen Heng could notice someone staring at him from a kilometer away. Now, Jiang Cheng was within 100 meters.
Although Chen Heng quickly averted his gaze, Jiang Cheng unconsciously glanced in Chen Heng’s direction and noticed a typical nosy student standing on a platform, watching the Special Affairs Bureau arrest people.
After a couple of glances, Jiang Cheng found Chen Heng slightly familiar. However, he still focused on capturing the ability users intent on cheating.
“You! Yes, you! Do you think you can escape? Cheating on the college entrance exams? Why don’t you shoot for the moon while you’re at it? Despite being an ability user, you think of using your ability to commit wicked deeds instead of contributing to the nation?” Jiang Cheng shouted as he darted toward a fleeing ability user who shoved two security guards aside. Then he knocked out the fleeing ability user with a quick elbow strike.
After the public became aware of the Spiritual Energy Resurgence, some newly awakened ability users started entertaining grandiose ideas.
They believed that they were destined for greatness or that it was now their era, and they began making trouble, only to get schooled by the Special Affairs Bureau.
Some poor souls even ran afoul of hidden world powerhouses because they couldn’t handle their newfound powers responsibly, becoming too cocky and running rampant without thought for consequences.
Take, for example, one arrogant ability user who challenged a hidden world powerhouse—a Soul Separation Realm cultivator—who ran a decent, law-abiding gang out of boredom. The gang members were all mundane people, but they were not evil like other gangs, collecting protection fees and whatnot. After all, the gang was just something set up out of boredom, and its members were not bad in nature. Such groups were the new-age good gangs, people who would even help the elderly cross the road when needed.
In the end, the newly awakened ability user turned arrogant after gaining his ability and decided to uphold justice while earning some pocket money. Dreaming of establishing a faction of his own, he cast his sights on a somewhat famous gang in his region, which happened to be that powerhouse’s gang.
This ability user had a pretty good ability, controlling fire. Furthermore, he was a rather rare dual-ability user, with a second ability for strengthening his physical body. If such people peacefully joined the Special Affairs Bureau or trained while remaining hidden, they would stand out someday. Unfortunately, such people would suffer a beating once they got arrogant.
Furthermore, this ability user was even more arrogant than Sirin after she became a six-core Herrscher.
He actually fought his way to the gang’s headquarters and threatened the gang leader—the Soul Separation Realm cultivator—while pointing straight at the gang leader’s nose.
The conclusion went as expected. Rumor had it that he had his arms and legs broken and ended up a subject in human experiments in that cultivator’s faction.
The hidden world was a ruthless place that didn’t play by the mundane world’s rules—a place where the strong preyed on the weak.
The Special Affairs Bureau knew about this case but did not react to it. The Special Affairs Bureau protected only the law-abiding ability users. As for such a troublemaker…
Actually, if there truly were a Spiritual Energy Resurgence, these ability users might be able to rise up. However, that was not what was really happening. The politics in this world ran very deep. How could this world be classified as a supreme-martial world for nothing?
After the exam hall opened, Chen Heng leaped off the platform and entered. Of course, despite how incredible he was, he still had to join the queue to enter.
With no surprise, the first subject was the same as before the world merger: Language.
The questions in front were pretty normal: poetry appreciation, reading comprehension, and other common topics. However, Question 21 seemed designed with malice, making Chen Heng’s eyebrows shoot up.
