I've Become the King of Villains in the Game

Chapter 34 Kent is willing to guide you

Chapter 34 Kent is willing to guide you

Chen Lun folded the newspaper neatly and tucked it into the slit of the bench's backrest before walking away.

Perhaps the next resident to rest here could catch up on the recent major events in Amber City for free.

He glanced at the sky and slowly made his way to Number 7 Denton Street, where the flower shop was located.

On his walk, he continued to ponder the connection between Councilor Daniel and Dolly, hoping to find some trace of Dolly's current whereabouts through this thread.

But after all, Dolly's attempt to assassinate the councilor wouldn't occur for two more years, and current clues were too scarce to make any deductions.

Chen Lun sighed to himself.

It had already been two days since he arrived in Amber City, and he still hadn't made any substantial progress.

"Time is of the essence... If that doesn't work, I'll have to take a risk and probe into the Inner City District."

The Inner City District had ample security forces, backed by the Shelter and various Churches. The strength of Amber City's official Transcendents was not something a small place like Emerald Town could compare with.

Unless absolutely necessary, Chen Lun did not want to take such risks with his own safety.

Returning to Number 7 Denton Street, he went straight upstairs to his home.

When he opened the door, he was taken aback for a moment.

In the living room, he saw Floey chatting with a visitor.

And the visitor was none other than Connie, who lived downstairs.

"You're back,"

Floey's ethereal voice said with a hint of joy in her tone.

"This is…?"

Chen Lun poured himself a glass of water and looked at Connie with curiosity.

With her lips pursed, the girl looked up at him with some struggle, took a deep breath, and said:

"Mr. Jack, I... I think you must be in need of a maid.

Miss Floey can't see with her eyes, and daily life must be inconvenient... I should be able to help."

After an initial hesitant start, Connie spoke more fluently as she continued.

"And I can also clean, launder clothes, and keep the room tidy... I would only need 2 Silver Ducats a week, no, 1 Silver Ducat and 50 Copper Kro is enough."

Having said that, Connie looked expectantly at Chen Lun.

Chen Lun frowned slightly. He and Floey had too many secrets and did not want to come into close contact with ordinary people.

Connie was constantly paying attention to the expression of the dark-haired young man. Seeing Chen Lun frown, her heart sank.

Just as Chen Lun was about to decline, Floey spoke up:

"Connie has lost her job, and she doesn't want to trouble Mrs. Caroline too much, because Mrs. Caroline has helped her a lot."

Upon hearing this, Chen Lun recalled the words said by Kent who was beaten up the night before. Perhaps Connie's job loss had something to do with that fellow.

He looked at Floey and thought that having someone to talk to her might not be a bad thing after all. He trusted that Floey, with her intelligence, would not casually reveal anything about the Mystic Realm.

"Aren't you still in class?"

Chen Lun sat down with his glass of water and asked as he drank.

"I get off class at four in the afternoon every day. I'll come here on time to clean, and on weekends, I can accompany Miss Floey for a walk,"

Connie said uneasily.

"Hmm, alright then, you can take care of the cleaning... Let's make it a weekly salary of 2 Silver Ducats, is that alright?"

"Yes! Thank you, Mr. Jack!"

Connie was visibly happy. She stood up, clutching her small hands, and then turned her gaze to Floey.

"Thank you too, Miss Floey!"

Floey responded with a smile.

"So should I come to work tonight, Mr. Jack?"

"Ah, no need, you can come tomorrow night instead."

Chen Lun sensed a lively change in the girl before him; she had seemed somewhat rundown before.

Although he did not want to dampen Connie's enthusiasm, he still needed to think about his next plan for the evening without interruptions.

"Okay, Mr. Jack."

Connie curtsied to the man, who seemed younger than she was, and respectfully left the room.

She carefully closed the door behind her as she exited.

Turning around, Connie took a deep breath and revealed a radiant smile.

At this moment, her heart was filled with immense joy; after losing her job, the world felt dark, but now, a ray of hope had appeared.

Her family's finances were dwindling, she still needed to attend classes, and her father depended on timely doses of "Fruit Nectar" from the Red Apple Church to sustain his life.

If she couldn't find work quickly, things would only get worse.

She was filled with gratitude towards Mr. Jack, who had provided her with hope. She also slightly changed her initial impression of him, no longer simply seeing him as a bastard who enjoyed bullying others.

...

The Riverside Slums.

The Flower and Bird Tavern's courtyard.

Gary, the boss of the Iron Fist Gang, had just seen off a distinguished guest from the Inner City District—the Fedman butler.

His face was gloomy as he violently swung his hefty arm, throwing a punch forward.

Bang!!

The straw hat spun off into the air, as a deep imprint was left on the wooden post in front of him.

"Damn it!"

Then he rushed forward, unleashing a ferocious barrage of punches at the post, seemingly venting his inner restlessness.

"Money!"

Bang!!

"Craftsman!"

Smack!!

"What's the use of hurrying me!? I'm already looking for a solution!"

Gary roared, leaping up with a turning whip kick, the powerful strike cutting through the air and screeching loudly.

Bang——!!

The kick uprooted the post, sending it flying away with a whistling sound.

"Boss, we've captured the guy."

A gang member in a leather jacket approached, speaking with reverence.

Gary turned, maintaining a stern face, as two more men tactfully moved close. One cut and lit a cigar for him while another draped a felt coat over his shoulders.

Then, two gang members brought in a battered and bruised young man, Kent, who was Chen Lun's neighbor, and forced him to kneel before Gary.

The man trembled, not daring to look up. He had just witnessed the boss of the Iron Fist Gang kick the post into the air and was terrified.

"I... I've already caused Connie to lose her job. Just give me a bit, a bit more time, and I swear I'll force her to come work here!"

His voice was filled with begging.

But Gary just shook his head, as if he found Kent too slow or had little hope for the situation.

Despair filled Kent's heart.

He could almost see Gary waving his hand in the next second, and then imagine himself being dragged away to be cruelly killed and thrown into the drainage ditch.

Perhaps it was a burst of desperate instinct to survive that sparked an idea in Kent's mind.

"Boss Gary! In the building where I live, two outsiders have recently arrived, and they look very rich!

One of them is a very beautiful girl, and she's blind... I can figure out a way to help you capture her!"

Gary stopped smoking his cigar and stared at him, pondering in silence.

As Kent anxiously awaited a response, Gary finally spoke:

"What's your plan?"

Joy sparked in Kent's heart.

After a moment's thought, he shared his plan.
