Chapter 621 Predicament (3)
Chapter 621 Predicament (3)
With the combined forces of the Fire Sprites and Kyran's beast Sigils, they managed to gain the upper hand.
The enemy mages' screaming was interrupted halfway because they got caught in magic spells, which disintegrated or burned them alive.
Ane had arrived in such a scene after appearing above the city of Noser. She wandered her eyes and confirmed that most of the fire attacks killing their mages were launched by invisible enemies.
If before she was still in doubt if the Spirits were involved with Kyran Regis, currently, Ane was convinced. However, she thought this way, not because there was no other explanation for how fire magic attacks appeared out of nowhere and killed the mages on their side. The main reason was that she saw— not just one, but several Montgomeray family members standing behind the barrier protecting the makeshift camp.
It was no secret that the Montgomeray Family was the only noble family who had dealings with the Spirits after the incident with the Crown Princess. But as far as Ane was concerned, the number of Montgomeray members who contracted a spirit was limited, and the Royal Army was keeping an eye on them.
Apart from this, Ane was surprised that they were actually working together with the beasts that were said to have been tamed by Kyran Regis.
Ane's reaction was actually not a surprise. The truth, after Gael's defeat which resulted in his side retreating to Tracomill, they had yet to provide a complete report of what had happened. Before Imman could send a report, Kyran had already infiltrated their side. After that, the Montgomeray Family busied themselves with sneaking into the army's communication channel and manipulating the information circulating inside.
It was because of this that no one knew what had happened to Euan or even Lira.
Haylee placed great importance on Lira. Proof of which she asked her to take care of things while she was busy with the Macabre Glacier. Still, after coming out of the underground chamber, she did not insist on having her by her side. Haylee did ask where Lira went but did not ask the Boyd Family to take the latter to the villa.
Others might say Haylee trusted Lira that much, which was why the former did not restrict the latter's actions. But there were likely some who would think that Haylee could not be bothered by what Lira was up to because she did not really care about her.
Regardless of the truth, Haylee failed to discover what really happened to Lira and her father. Thus, her side had little information about Kyran's allies and suffered because of this.
'The Regis Family sure prepared a deep plot against the Royal Family!' Ane thought through gritted teeth.
Unfortunately, Haylee— or, to be precise, Layla— managed to move the three Archmagus of their family because she convinced them that the Regis Family was plotting to dethrone the current Royal Family and even hid their trump card, which was a mage who possessed Void magic.
There were flaws in Layla's claims, but because of the nature of Soul magic, it was easy for her to convince most people with her train of thought without manipulating their souls.
'This has to stop!' Ane let out a low growl as her magic energy erupted from her body.
The air crackled with magic fluctuations as most of the people nearby sensed how powerful she was. As a matter of fact, those who had yet to witness her use magic were already aware that although her innate magic was Wind, she would not be at a disadvantage with Fire mages.
Inside the spirit barrier, Ezra and the other family leaders felt their hearts turn cold, and their scalps went numb in fear. Most of them already knew how powerful a Magus's aura could be. Yet, the aura coming out of Ane was far stronger and more potent than they had ever felt.
"So this is an Archmagus..." Ezra muttered under his breath. His face paled a little at the possibility that this person alone could wipe his whole clan today.
Nevertheless, he would not falter. As long as True Void, along with legendary beasts, spirits, and the Solum Tribe, were there to support them, Ezra was convinced that they could endure any attacks the Archmagus would direct at them.
Anette, True Void, and Zephyr also looked at the newcomer, who emitted a very intimidating aura while floating above the city.
Nevertheless, unlike Ezra and his people, they were not intimidated by the newcomer's arrival. In particular, Zephyr was looking at her with disdain.
His reaction was quite reasonable because he possessed a much higher realm of magic than hers— Air magic.
Sensing Zephyr's disdain and guessing what he might do next, Anette beat him at it and warned him, "Do not do anything rash. You have not fully recovered. Even if her magic only branches out to your innate magic, that does not mean you are invincible against it."
Zephyr looked at Anette with a slight frown. He understood what she meant but was somewhat reluctant to back down. Besides, he promised his master to protect these people while he was away. If he stood down now, how was he to accomplish this?
"Goodness, my goodness. Have you been inflicted by Kyran's sense of duty or something?" True Void commented and clicked his non-existent tongue at Zephyr.
Without waiting for the latter to complain, the former continued, "Right, you are part dragon, so it truly does run in the Regis Family's blood, huh? Being an egotistical duty-bound idiot."
"Oi! You dare say something like that about my master?"
"Technically, he is my new master... err... but he is still under probation. Anyway—!"
True Void faced Zephyr, who was still mad at what he had just said.
"— Leave that woman to me," True Void continued ignoring Zephyr's fierce look. "I have used too much magic energy because Void Halfling was such a slave driver! I need more sources besides the magic energies in the surroundings to replenish my body."
"What does that have to do with—?"
"I'm off~," True Void ignored Zephyr, and he added toward Anette, "Tie this guy up, will you? I can't have him running around getting hurt again, or Void Halfing will have another reason to go on a rampage!"
Without waiting for Anette's reply, True Void flew and made his way out of the barrier.
Meanwhile, Ezra and the other leaders listening in on True Void and Zephyr's conversation had blank expressions on their faces. They were already prepared to die today, yet these two spoke of the newcomer as if she was not a suspected-Archmagus but their everyday normal Wind mage.
"Oi! I said I will—."
"You wanted to help my godson gain the advantage in this situation, right? Then rest and let True Void do what he has to do," Anette cut Zephyr's objection midsentence.
"But—."
"This conflict has just started," Anette told him solemnly. "It will still escalate into a full-fledged war. When that happens, I'm sure you don't want to be left behind because you over-exhausted yourself here."
Zephyr no longer refuted because he understood what Anette was trying to say.
Anette smile when Zephyr seemed to have calmed down, "Good boy."
Zephyr scowled at her, "Don't treat me like a kid!"
Just as the two were talking, a powerful gust of wind swept around the edges of the spirit's barrier.
Bass, Iss, Manti and Mera looked back after sensing a powerful magic fluctuation enveloping he barrier and were about to retreat and attack. However, they saw something about to come out of the barrier and stopped midway.
That was right. They saw True Void and judged that their going back to help would be a waste of time.
As soon as this wind touched the fire spells cast by the Fire mages on her side, the flames ignited further, giving off far more potent firepower.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Several fire spells that Ane's Wind magic had amplified continued to bombard the spirit's barrier.
"Not good the barrier will not hold for another hour if such firepower continues to erupt—!"
Ezra could barely complete what he was saying when True Void, who was about five meters away from leaving the spirit barrier, suddenly opened his mouth wide and took a very deep breath— or, to be precise, he sucked the magic energies in the surroundings. At the same time, he manipulated a few shape-shifting plates on his end and attacked Ane.
Ane furrowed her eyes when she sensed a powerful killing intent directed at her. It was her first time encountering such an aura. Not even after killing indiscriminately, no one directed such a powerful killing intent at her.
Could she have missed an opportunity to take advantage of the situation?
Ane waved her hand, and a huge crystal staff with several gold ornaments appeared before her. She grabbed the staff's shaft and whirled it before hitting the bottom of the staff into an invisible surface.
A light green veil spread out in the air from where the staff's bottom had hit and instantly enveloped the whole city of Noser.
