The assistant sighed and shook her head in frustration. Gu Huanhuan, the company’s top star, was being overshadowed by a newcomer.
Seeing the assistant’s angry expression, Gu Huanhuan smiled. The girl was really impatient. Although she was only a year older, perhaps because she was married now, she felt much more mature.
She saw the assistant as a little sister now. Maybe it was having a husband for support that gave her such confidence.
Gu Huanhuan waited for Sister Gao to finish her meeting, eager to hear if the new script deal had gone through.
Just then, the door to the lounge opened and someone walked in. Gu Huanhuan looked up.
No recognition at first, but given the demeanor, it was likely the rumored “Barbie Doll.”
Sure enough, the voice that followed was sweet enough to give one goosebumps.
“Hello, Sister Huanhuan. I’ve heard so much about you. It’s great to finally meet you,” the girl greeted warmly.
Gu Huanhuan smiled politely. “Nice to meet you too.”
“I’ve watched your performance in ‘Meeting By Chance.’ Your portrayal of Yun Duo was fantastic,” Qin Wan’er continued to compliment her.
“Thank you for the praise. I still have a lot to learn,” Gu Huanhuan replied modestly, her tone a bit distant. She hadn’t slept well last night and still had a slight headache.
“Sister Huanhuan, I’ll be your junior from now on. Please take care of me,” Qin Wan’er said earnestly.
“Nonsense. You’re so popular now with a bright future ahead,” Gu Huanhuan responded, feeling slightly irritated by the girl’s chattering. The voice that might be enchanting to men was just grating to her, sounding like a forced falsetto.
“Hehe, you’re too kind, Sister Huanhuan. It’s all thanks to everyone giving me a chance.” Qin Wan’er giggled, then continued, “We have to rely on ourselves. You’re different, Sister Huanhuan. You’re married and have your husband’s support, so you don’t have to work as hard as we do.”
Gu Huanhuan found herself both amused and exasperated.
So now she was seen as relying on her husband.
“A woman must still strive on her own. Acting is my passion, and I hope my skills are recognized by the audience for their merit, not for other reasons,” Gu Huanhuan said pointedly, glancing at Qin Waner’s ample cleavage, which was on full display.
Qin Waner’s face flushed, then quickly paled. She forced a laugh. “Yes, we must work hard. Many married stars lose their popularity, but you’re different, Sister Huanhuan. You’re an award-winning actress.”
Gu Huanhuan didn’t respond. Just then, her assistant knocked and entered.
“Sister Huanhuan, Sister Gao wants to see you. She said the role you wanted is yours,” the assistant announced, making sure to say it in front of Qin Wan’er, wanting to show what real talent was.
“Alright, I’m coming,” Gu Huanhuan replied calmly, standing up and nodding at Qin Wan’er before leaving.
Qin Wan’er stood there, her face darkening. She was now the company’s cash cow, and even a lowly assistant dared to disrespect her? She was curious about the role Gu Huanhuan had secured. Perhaps there might be something suitable for herself as well?
After all, she had just won an award and was still popular. She figured it could be mutually beneficial.
With that thought, she opened the door and followed.
Confident as always, she believed that wherever she appeared, she was the center of attention. Surely, landing a role would be a piece of cake.
