Chapter 395  React

His knees hit the ground and his body weakly fell down. His senses were numb but his head kept beating as if it'd split open at any second. "Ungg-" he growled as he curled up from the pain. His back was instantly wet with sweat while his forehead was as hot as a heater. 'What-' What was going on? What happened? Why did he feel as if he'd die at any second? He was so exhausted and sleepy... 'Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!' a voice was screaming in his head to wake up. It was his own voice. Forcing his fuzzy mind out of the fog, he abruptly snapped his eyes open.

"..."

The voices around him entered his ears all at once. "Ren?"

"The artifacts-"

"They're-"

"What's going on?"

"Hurry out! Leave!"All kinds of voices buzzed in his head, making him dizzy and nauseous. "Ren! Kairen???"

Ignoring the man who was grabbing his shoulders and calling out a name, he raised his head up to look at the thing in front of his face. On top of a platform, a glass tube was seen and behind the glass, a necklace was shining brightly. It wasn't just the necklace. With a glance, the overall state of the room entered his eyes. Bzzzz

Bzzzzzzzzzz

With a whizzing sound, sparks of light danced around the room as small electric currents jumped around here and there. They'd all connected to each other and created a link throughout the room.

And inside the thread-like currents that were dangerously giving off sparks like vigorous snakes eyeing their prey, all of the pieces of ancient artifacts were floating mid-air. Surrounded by red currents, the artifacts were vibrating viciously as if they'd explode at any second. Among the sparks, some bounced off from time to time, hitting walls and glasses, destroying anything they touched. The guards all evacuated the room in fear of getting injured or killed and alarms rang nonstop. "Ah..." he finally could understand the situation he was in. He was once again dragged into a memory and had momentarily lost his control over his power, thus, the artifacts had reacted to the power and had gone into a frenzy. 'I should... control the power...' Kairen lowered his thumbing head as he had that thought. He needed to concentrate and control his power before anything dangerous happened. "...Hey!" "...." Kairen glared at his brother, who, unlike the others, hadn't exited the room and was kneeling down and holding his body, for a second, before forcefully moving his dry lips. "...L..eave.." This place was dangerous. Aaron also had to leave if he didn't want to get injured.

"No!"

But Aaron had to-

Zaaappp

With a loud ring, golden and silver cracks burst out of Kairen's body. Like an explosion, a powerful force blasted around Kairen's body. Aaron, getting caught off guard, was sent back by the impact several meters.

Kairen couldn't waste any time persuading his brother to leave him alone, so he just forced him away. Closing his eyes once again, he repeated the steps he'd practiced before when he was still in The Void in order to gain control over his power. 'Concentrate. Concentrate. Concentrate.'

The density of power around him kept increasing and increasing. If it was just his power, Kairen would've long controlled it, however now he was dealing with the universal energies that were seeping away from the artifacts, so it felt more like a clash between him and their power than him controlling them. It was as if he had to win against them in order to calm them down.

'Then I'll do it...'

"Haaaaa!" Taking a deep breath, Kairen released some of his power into the world, so much that it wouldn't harm the others outside or his brother inside the room. Zaaaap Ziiiiiiiippp

He could hear the currents clash but didn't open his eyes to watch them. He still needed to keep his focus to wield his power. Shhhh....

Just as he thought, it didn't take long for the artifacts to quiet down in the face of his power. The floating objects slowly lowered down to their original spot, calm and obedient. The sparks died down and the room returned to its previous stillness. The whole thing didn't even last five minutes. "Huff..." Panting, Kairen opened his eyes to examine the situation, however, he couldn't make things out as his vision was dim and unclear. 'At least, I reacted fast this time...' His body tilted to one side and soon, he felt his face touching the ground. A hot liquid was oozing out his nose and dripping down his chin. 'Ugh... my head....'

-...Ren... Kairen...

-Reyn! ...Hey!... can... you...

-....You... hear... Ren...

Distant shouts entered his ears, but he couldn't distinguish them clearly.

'My head... hurts...'

-Keep... eyes... open

-....hear me-

He was dragged into darkness once again. It hurt. His body hurt.

It hurt all over. It was a pain he'd never experienced before. The pain was so intense that he wanted to cry, but couldn't, wanted to shout, but couldn't.

It was as if needles were tearing every inch of his skin apart and a fire was burning everything that was under it. A sensation like a vicious snake crawling inside of him, eating anything in its path, like his bones melting and solidifying again and again, and like his muscles falling apart and being sewn to each other multiple times.

He struggled with the pain for a long, long time. He didn't know how long had it been since he was experiencing this pain, but he knew that it was long enough that he wished he'd just die instead of going through this. This was too much. He wanted to sleep and never wake up.

"Ughhhh..."

As he groaned in pain, someone whispered in his ear, "It's okay. You'll gonna be okay." The words were gentle and warm, strangely soothing to the pain in his body and the fear in his mind. "You've done great, tolerating it this much. It's alright now. Close your eyes and sleep. Once you wake up, the pain will be gone."

As he listened to those words, his mind that was struggling to escape from the darkness stopped resisting and gradually sank back down into the endless dark.
