Chapter 329 end of day one
??"So, the council president, you hate her?" Becca asked, as they both just walked by the garden.
They had finished their games, the dance, the meals everything there was to do on the first day of this party (except socializing), so now it was just a simple casual walk under the moonlight.
Rio, who heard her question thought for a second before shaking his head and replied "I hate that I failed to understand her. That's all."
"Angry..." (at what happened?)
"I am."
"Would you..." (kill her?)
"Maybe, haven't thought about her yet."
"What about..." (my brother?)
"You don't wanna know."
"..." (b_ but _ he's _ )
"Please don't say anything."
"Umm" (nods head)
Rebecca wanted to ask if he wanted to kill Lisa or her brother for what happened back then, but due to her hesitation in whose side to pick she ended up starting her sentences openly but never finishing them through her words. But Rio knew her enough to guess these things and give her those answers.
Though not clear enough, she was glad he was at least being honest, instead of lying to her, like he did in front of her mom and dad. Saying Alfred made a wise decision to leave when he could, and blah blah blah.
Everyone knew he was lying, but the fact that HE WAS LYING, proved it enough that he won't go against Alfred, and that was enough for now.
"So how close were you two, there are rumors you were secretly dating each other?" Rebecca asked trying to change the topic, only to end up saying something even more stupid.
'She really needs to learn some serious lying game and fake socializing skills.' Rio thought hearing her question.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to." She added, trying to salvage what she can.
But Rio just shook his head and smiled at her thinking brain which probably started cooking up another weird question. So he just chose to answer this question and then take the charge for this drowning conversation..
"We weren't dating or anything else of that sorts." He said and Rebecca looked at him in surprise for a second before giving a subtle smile that she tried to hide but failed as her expression betrayed her.
Acting as if he didn't notice, Rio just kept speaking. "Those were all just rumors students started as a gossip and that stuck around since we both were at the top of the tournament and in a team as well."
"She was just grateful that I saved her mother, and I was just happy to meet someone talented, that's all."
Rebecca nodded her head hearing his words, now back to her serious expression again. She wanted to speak something, but Rio interrupted her.
"What about you? I heard you joined a sect and became a saintess candidate? Wasn't the title of Princess not enough?" Rio jokingly asked, remembering the details of the sect Becca joined while he was in the dungeon.
"I wasn't planning on joining them. My goddess gave it to me as a task of sorts." Rebecca said and started explaining, ignoring the little warning Selene sent through the world system. "The sectmaster of Aqua Spring Sect has a technique suitable for me, she said."
"And he said he'll only teach you if you become the saintess, or his disciple?" Rio guessed.
"Yeah, something like that."
"You know you can just ask your father and he'll have the sect master begging on his knees with that skill written on his forehead the very next day." Rio joked, but spoke the honest truth regarding king Maximus's capabilities.
That guy had some serious skills. Well that was to be expected from a king and avatar of a God king.
"Very funny, but I want to finish these tests on my own." Rebecca said proudly "And besides you were gone, and then Amy pushed herself into her mad training regimes, and I basically had nothing else to do. So I just thought "why not?"
Hearing her words Rio smiled and shook his head, remembering the words from a plotline of the novel which would make Rebecca regret this very decision for the rest of her life, but now wasn't the time to tell her that yet.
"What happened? Why'd you get all serious?" She asked, noticing his silence.
"Nothing, was just thinking that some sects have a rule that their saintess has to marry into the sect, mostly to the next sect leader." Rio joked.
"Well, they can't force me to do anything I don't want to. Or as you said Father would kill them otherwise." Rebecca said in a joking tone too, yet her words caused Rio's smile to stiffen as he heard the trust she had in her father.
'I wish I could kill that bastard.' Rio thought in his heart, trying to suppress the raging anger in his mind the more he remembered about the future and the king.
[You can't. Killing Leon is much easier than killing him if you ask me.] System refused and said so, before going on to explaining why. [The man practically has an army of Gods at his beck and call. While Leon only got Apollo and a handful of other supporters.]
"Are you feeling tired?" Rebecca asked, bringing him back to his senses.
"What, why?" He asked.
"Then why are you so silent all of a sudden?" Rebecca said and added. "You always go silent either before a serious fight or when you go to sleep." She said pointing out her understanding of his personality. "And since you aren't going to any war now, that only means you wanna sleep."
"Well, now that you mention it. I do need sleep." Rio said while yawning inadvertently after hearing about sleep.
He wasn't sleepy, he was just lazy.
"Well, maybe this will jog you up then?" She said before bringing her hands to hold his face, and standing in front of him.
Rio didn't know what she wanted to do but he could see her face burned in a crimson blush and hear her heartbeat jumping wildly, before she broke into a big smile and covered his head into a water bubble, and ran away, muttering some nonsense he couldn't make out of with water's interference.
"Idiot, idiot, Becca. What were you thinking? Did he notice? Would he care? No, I missed the chance again, it was such a perfect environment too. No noise, no crowd, a full moon and bright stars - fuck I wasted it all with that stupid spell. No, no, no it's good I didn't do it, it'd be so bad to ruin this perfect day with me doing something stupid. Amy would kill me. Should I just leave… .?" One by one all kinds of thoughts, questions and doubts kept moving across the mind of our sweet royal heroine, unaware of the shadow growing in the darkness, until it covered her whole and froze her in place.
(The same spell he used in day one of the academy in Miss Freya's training class on the stage.)
"Trying to drown me, Princess?" Rio said as he evaporated the water bubble over his head and walked towards Rebecca, who in turn also looked pleadingly at him. Already aware of what was gonna happen next.
"I made a new spell, why don't I try it out on you, for old times sake, and new ones." Rio said, bringing a book from his bag out and showing it to the princess, who in turn shivered in horrible nostalgia. That diary of his where he experimented with magic was simply a nightmare recipe on whom he tried those spells.
She flared her mana as the silver ring on her finger shone and the shadow magic beneath her disappeared and got trapped into the crystal. Once the spell was broken and she was free, she directly started running away.
"You'll have to catch me first, you lazy idiot." She said, poking her tongue out, making fun of him after running a safe distance..
Rio chased after her half heartedly, enjoying the peaceful banter and her melodic laughter, unaware that a shadow in the darkness was eyeing their figures with cold eyes.
"She's mine. She's mine. She's mine." The shadow muttered under it's breath looking at Rebecca, before turning towards Rio and clenching its fist. "Kill you, kill you, will kill you soon."
As if sensing something off Rio stopped and looked behind him yet found nothing strange. Just to be sure he even spread his mana and did a whole scan of the garden they were playing around in, yet found nothing.
'Was I wrong?' He thought, but before he could ask his system, Rebecca threw him another ball of water, making all his skin and suit to get wet.
"Did that wake you up, panda? Or do you need one more? Hehehe" Rebecca said, throwing another ball of water at his face. Turning their entire game into a waterball battle.
Rio too shook his head and turned his attention back at this girl who couldn't take a hint. And decided to teach her a lesson.
His feet moving past the walls of windows where a shadowy figure stood behind a blocked curtain and watched their actions through the staff lodging, with gritted teeth. "Rio Blake, you should die." The mysterious shadow said and walked away.
