Something woke me up in the middle of the night. When I gained focus in my eyes and looked around, something strange was happening not far away from my shelter. I could see ray of moonlight shining on a certain boulder. I thought I must be tired but no, I rubbed my eyes and looked again. It was still there.
I also started noticing different animals converging to that boulder. There were deer, rabbits, squirrels and even boars. I was not sure what was going on, so I stood up from my shelter and tried to approach the boulder.
All the animals present simply ignored me and just stared at this boulder with the moonlight ray shining on it. I couldn't figure out what was going on and asking someone was certainly out of the question. It's not like a deer will suddenly learn human language and answer me.
Without me realising it, I got closer to the bolder and was standing about 10 metres away when I finally snapped out of my thoughts. I decided to investigate this more closely and so approached the boulder.
Again, it was not one of the best ideas I had in a while because as soon as I was within one metre of the boulder all animals started doing weird sounds. When I took my eyes away from the boulder and looked around I noticed all the animals staring swords at me. I don't know how deer can have killing intent in their eyes but hell these deer had!
I was clueless as to what the hell is going on but I was sure of one thing. Do not get close to the boulder! I backed off from the boulder and the animals again ignored me. Because I didn't want to become the target of hatred of all the gathered animals, I stayed away from doing anything to that boulder.
Around twenty minutes later the light disappeared and all the animals started to recede back into the forest. I only had one expression on my face and you probably would have it too 'Just what the fuck has happened here!'
It was dark now so I couldn't see much, I decided that I will investigate this boulder in the morning. I tried to sleep again but I couldn't push away this boulder business out of my mind and so I laid there till the morning.
When I got up, I immediately went to the boulder because I just couldn't contain my curiosity as to what was that weird phenomenon. Standing very closely to the boulder I looked around but didn't see any animals rushing at me. I thought to myself 'It's alright now I think' and so touched, knocked, kicked, climbed and so on the boulder. I found, yep you guessed it… NOTHING!
'What the hell! What is up with this boulder and this ray of moonlight?'
I thought to myself. I then decided to stay here one more night, maybe this will repeat itself. I didn't just stay there sitting patiently waiting for the night to come, no. Instead I practiced my throwing skills. By the noon I was quite tired already but my overall accuracy increased to 30% when I'm tired and 50% when I'm at my peak condition.
So out of two throws I managed to hit once, I call that a good result! I rested up a bit and started making new spears. I needed them to be of the best quality I could make as my next step was to go hunting in the afternoon.
I went around the area looking for wildlife. I was mostly looking for rabbits as I didn't believe my wooden spears would do anything to a deer's hide, even if it did it wouldn't be lethal. I searched for an hour, AN HOUR! Just to find one animal. Anyway I hid myself and prepared. I was good with stationary objects so the rabbit eating grass was as stationary as I could get.
With rabbit's back facing me I threw my first spear but because the rabbit heard me throwing, it managed to avoid it. I threw another one at the running rabbit but failed to hit the mark. I wasn't discouraged and went off to find a new prey after collecting my spears.
This time I found new prey after just ten minutes, deer. I knew it will probably achieve nothing but at least I will get some experience, so I decided to try anyway. The deer was eating some leaves off a bush. I took my time and tried to make no noises.
With my full strength, I threw the spear and already had another one in my hand. The spear hit the deer and it actually got stuck making it injured but not injured enough for it to not run away. I tried to guess how the deer is going to escape and threw another spear. I missed it by a bit and because of that the deer got away.
I now knew at least that my weapons do damage, so killing a rabbit should be possible with first throw if not maybe heavily injuring it so that it won't be able to run away. Full of hopes I searched for my next prey.
I didn't search for long as after five minutes I found another rabbit. This time, with all my experience (not much of it, I know but still) I threw the spear when the rabbit least expected it and finally hit the target. Although the rabbit didn't die and tried to run, it's speed was so poor that I caught up with it and killed it with another spear.
My first prey was hunted. Full of smiles I returned to the area with stones and boulders to set up a fire and cook my meat. This time I had knife so taking out intestines and getting rid of fur was much easier. I also cooked the rabbit better this time as I didn't burn it. It was still hard and almost tasteless but it was meat!
After the meal, I decided to exercise more and try to achieve higher accuracy with my throwing spears. This went on till evening, then I took a rest and awaited moonlight to see if this boulder phenomenon will happen again.
