Chapter 169
A Day in Jiang Xiaoman’s Life (1)
Jiang Xiaoman was very, very busy.
Before he knew it, Yu Qingshi felt that he couldn’t play with her anymore.
Actually, the two lived close to each other, and even sat at the same desk. They saw each other everyday, and it could even be said that they could see the other just by tilting their heads up or down. They should not be so distant and indifferent with each other.
But they did start communicating less.
Of course, Yu Qingshi didn’t think that he was the problem at all.
He was someone whose mouth might as well have been sewn shut. Normally, he wouldn’t say anything unless it was a last resort. But when Jiang Xiaoman reduced the number of times she took the initiative to talk, he felt that there was a lot less communication between them.
Yu Qingshi decided to do something about it, but he didn’t know what to do.
Jiang Xiaoman was in the hobby class. He knew this, and mentioned it to his father. After his father thought about it, he said that he would also let Yu Qingshi attend hobby classes.
Yu Qingshi happily kissed his father, a very rare occurrence.
As a result, by the next day, the Yu family had two more tutors.
One taught culture, and the other taught art.
His father told him to watch and learn slowly. If he didn’t like the current teachers, then he would change them out, and would definitely find one that suited him.
Yu Qingshi cried on the spot.
He was too embarrassed to ask Jiang Xiaoman what she was doing this weekend, so he could only guess it himself. He couldn’t get out of the house himself, so he just sat in the house doing nothing like a mushroom.
After the painful lesson, Yu Qingshi decided to ask her discreetly.
So today during class, Yu Qingshi passed a small note to Jiang Xiaoman.
He quietly tore a piece of paper and wrote to Jiang Xiaoman: “What are you doing on the weekend?”
Jiang Xiaoman froze for a moment, knowing that it was not good to pass notes in class. But thinking of Yu Qingshi’s usual attitude, she thought that his illness might be flaring up again and he couldn’t think clearly, so she felt that she had to cooperate with him.
“Not telling.”
Yu Qingshi pursed his lips and switched to another piece of paper.
“We are good friends, you can tell me.”
Jiang Xiaoman read this sentence for a long, long time, and then began to write her reply.
She also wrote for a long, long, long, long time before passing it to Yu Qingshi.
He opened it nervously, and found that what was written was:
Wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu wuu……
Jiang Xiaoman wrote a page full of crying sounds. There was even a crying face on the other side.
“…”
Yu Qingshi crumpled the paper with a complicated feeling and stashed it into the compartment under his desk.
Then, he was caught by the teacher.
The two children were to stand outside the classroom as punishment.
The two stood next to the wall, and there was nothing but silence between them.
Yu Qingshi felt very embarrassed, and he wanted to bury his head inside his chest.
Jiang Xiaoman definitely hated him, right?
He caused her to get punished by standing outside the classroom. He was the one who took the initiative to hand her the note first. It was him… it was all his fault.
Xiaoman was very popular among the teachers and the classmates, and he was the one who had implicated her. He had no friends or companions; he shouldn’t have made her suffer the punishment with him.
He was not a good friend, nor was he a good kid.
Wuu wuu wuu…
“Don’t be scared.”
Jiang Xiaoman suddenly held his hand. She saw his eyes turning red and comforted, “This is just a mistake that any student could make. It’s nothing.”
She was very magnanimous.
Yu Qingshi stared at her blankly, still feeling very complicated.
He held back his tears and said in a low voice, “This is not a good thing…”
Why was she still so happy? He couldn’t figure it out.
“Yes, it’s not a good thing. Now you know that it’s not good to pass notes in class, right? Will you do it again in the future?” Jiang Xiaoman said, “This is something that only bad people do. You can’t do it.”
She was happy because it was not a good thing; she specialized in doing bad things! Whenever she did bad things, the system would be overjoyed.
It just gave her ten points just now.
The system congratulated her for completing the achievement ‘the first child to be punished’, and told her to keep up her effort and continue to improve.
The system said that this was how a little villain should be. No matter where or when, they would be like a chicken standing in a flock of cranes1, a maverick, doing things that did not suit the times. She should have done this from long ago; in the future, she should keep trying to find more opportunities to earn points.
Xiaoman liked to get points. Recently, she has been too busy to earn more.
But earning points still had its ethics; she couldn’t ruin other children just for points.
It was hard to be dragons and phoenixes among men. But Yu Qingshi was special just like her, so it shouldn’t be possible to ruin him, right?
“I won’t do it again in the future.” Yu Qingshi sullenly replied.
His heart was uncomfortable, and his manly pride was gone.
He wanted to retrieve some of it back, so he said, “Then, you also can’t do it again in the future.”
Jiang Xiaoman chuckled mysteriously but didn’t respond.
After the punishment period was over, the two children returned to the classroom and took the initiative to find the teacher to admit their mistakes.
Yu Qingshi had become more magnanimous and could look at something from a brighter angle.
He said, “Teacher, that was a bad thing to do. I won’t do it again in the future.”
Jiang Xiaoman said, “This is what we call experiencing mistakes early to avoid them in the future. Teacher, thank you for your goodwill. We will remember your teachings.”
The teacher was flabbergasted.
In fact, she was just afraid that they would disrupt the classroom discipline so she punished them. She wasn’t really thinking of teaching them any lesson…
But since the children thought so, then so be it.
Footnote:
1. There’re two versions of this idiom; a crane among chickens and a chicken among cranes. Both mean to stand out, but the first has a positive connotation and the second has a negative one. This one is the latter, after all, she’s a villainess!
