Chitter...
The Tarantula King opened its eyes and cried out. Then it took off into the sky, flew, and then landed. Then it took off again excitedly. It was not as fast as the Horned Bee Beasts or Gargoyles, but it had the advantage in that it could fly higher in the sky. Looking at its giant wings, Yang Ling estimated that its flying stamina would be far greater than that of the Horned Bee Beasts and Gargoyles.
“Oh, a Flying Spider?” the Heavenly Fox Yuna watched the newly evolved Tarantula King, its giant wings and tightly-knit scales, and began to recall an ancient legend passed through the generations of the Beastmen.
It was rumored that hundreds of millions of years ago, the God of War descended upon the Tailun Continent and created all living things, including the Beastmen. Amongst those creatures, the god also created a fierce guardian beast – the Flying Spider.
According to the legends of her tribesmen, the Flying Spiders were similar to the Heavenly Foxes in that they were naturally blessed by the God of War. They were bloodthirsty and fierce, not only able to fly ten thousand miles in a day, but they could also dig into the ground to set up ambushes. Their battle abilities were terrifying. Even though they evolved slowly, their battle abilities increased by leaps and bounds as they evolved.
It was rumored that the God of War had left behind a Divine Hall in a faraway, stormy sea, guarded by ferocious Flying Spiders. Over millennia, countless Beastmen warriors and powerful humans had gone to explore the area, but none of them ever returned!
Yuna was incredibly excited. She had not expected that a powerful guardian beast of the legends would appear before her eyes. She also did not expect that a Red-haired Tarantula would transform into a Flying Spider in mere moments!
This world is too interesting!
Yang Ling was also elated watching the Tarantula King flying. He had not expected the Spider Monster’s Essence Crystal to have this much of an effect, causing the Tarantula King to immediately evolve and jump to level seven!
Surprise attacks from high above, underground ambushes, fatal poison...
Yang Ling was full of anticipation for his spider army’s battle abilities. After consuming the Essence Crystal, the Red-haired Tarantula had developed a powerful physical body. In addition, its mental energy had also doubled. As a champion Magical Beast, its leadership abilities would also increase. The abilities of the spider army were instantly increased!
After resting for a moment, Yang Ling prepared to recall the Tarantula King and continue on his way. But unexpectedly, the Tarantula King that had been gliding around high in the air suddenly shot downward screeching, a clear ripple spreading from its brain. It circled around Yang Ling’s feet, as if it had discovered something dangerous!
Could there be something strange within the Spider Valley?
Because of the Tarantula King’s behavior, Yang Ling elected to recall his Magical Beast army, place Yuna on the Unicorn, and mount it himself. The Tarantula King had indicated that whatever upset it was in the direction of the Spider Valley.
Yang Ling had not sat down properly on the Unicorn when the Tarantula King flapped its wings anxiously and took off toward the Spider Valley. Holding Yuna tightly, Yang Ling spurred the Unicorn on and chased after it. Even though there were countless obstacles the forest, the Unicorn was fast.
The clearing where they had stopped wasn’t far from the Spider Valley. After accelerating a couple of times, the two soon arrived at the entrance. Yang Ling had not had the time to closely observe the valley when the Tarantula flapped its wings and continued forward.
Ahead there was a cluster of knights in heavy black armor, riding on tall black horses at the entrance of the Spider Valley. Each held an icy, sharp gaze. They stabbed their spears forward, their actions crisp and measured. When the spears came back, they were full of spiders. They were obviously trained well, elites among the elites. They looked like the Dark Knights that briefly appeared in Wissen Town in the past.
According to the intelligence from Parrot, they seemed to have been together with the vixen Maryse at that time, planning to assassinate the careless Steve. In the end, Steve managed to avoid the crisis, but the beginner level Sword Saint he had as a guard died during the ordeal.
It was intimidating how powerful those Dark Knights were, considering that they managed to successfully kill a Sword Saint. It was no wonder that they dared to travel into the Spider Valley, which was feared by many!
Accompanying the Black Knights were a few Spellcasters in black robes. They cast walls of fire with raging flames just by raising their hands. After trapping the hordes of spiders, they would cover the area with flames, burning the spiders into ashes instantly.
Faced with infiltrators with such powerful offensive capabilities, the wild spiders swarmed forward like the tide, unleashing a panicked attack. In the face of the opponent’s powerful attacks and defenses, they were flocking to their own doom. They were not only unable to fight these enemies, but with each attack, the enemies pushed the spiders into the valley, one step at a time.
The Tarantula King raced toward the spectacle until it was just above the black-clad interlopers. Then it roared and released its fatal poison. It then moved all eight of its limbs at once, snatching up a Spellcaster and tearing him in two in the air.
Ah...
Caught off guard, two of the knights got hit by the Tarantula King’s poison, screaming and rolling on the ground clutching their heads. Yang Ling looked closely to see that thumb sized holes had been dissolved out of the knights’ helmets. Blood and brain matter sprayed out of the holes as the knights stopped moving.
“Quick, get into formation!”
With the sudden change in situation, the leader in a black cloak shouted, and the Dark Knights quickly retracted their formation, protecting the few Spellcasters at their center. The Tarantula King had wanted to reuse its strategy, but the Spellcasters joined hands and released a protective barrier, protecting them securely against the fatal acid-like poison.
“Hmph, you’re asking for death!” muttered the black-clad leader.
Just as the Tarantula King was circling above and searching for the other party’s weak spot, the leader in the black cloak let out a grunt and raised her hand, shooting a string of blazing hot black fireballs, aimed straight for the Tarantula King’s wings.
The Tarantula King tilted mid-air and avoided the fireballs, and let out a furious roar. It circled in the sky, calling the spiders in the valley to surround the enemy. At the same time, Yang Ling felt a wave of ripples spread from the space where the Wizard’s Pagoda was. With a thought, he summoned the feisty spider army.
Unlike the spiders in the valley, the spiders summoned by Yang Ling had all evolved to level three, their bodies covered in tightly knit scales. Both their offensive and defensive capabilities were far more powerful than ordinary spiders.
Seeing the hordes of Red-haired Tarantula appear out of nowhere, seeing their massive bodies and sharp venomous fangs, seeing their bloodthirsty gaze... The Dark Knights all gasped, taking their positions seriously. No one dared to act recklessly.
Having avoided the Tarantula King, and then seeing the spider army appear out of nowhere, the knight in the black cloak set eyes on Yang Ling astride his Unicorn. She shouted with surprise, “Oh, it’s you!” She continued coldly, “Sir Yang, to think that we would meet again!”
Meet again?
Yang Ling felt a sense of familiarity in her voice, and there was something about her slender shape... He looked at the Dark Knights surrounding her, and recalled Maryse and her unknown background. Soon, he knew that his guess was correct.
Removing her cloak, and watching Yang Ling who was deep in thought, Maryse clenched her teeth. She was still angry that though she had arranged to get the upper hand on Yang Ling, she had been fooled into acting as his bait.
“Miss Maryse, meeting you again is my honor!” Yang Ling exclaimed, watching the lady glare at him. He smiled and said, “You are like the dinosaurs in my hometown, getting more and more beautiful every time I see you!”
Getting more and more beautiful like a dinosaur?
Even though she did not know what a dinosaur was, Maryse felt that something was off when she saw Yang Ling’s smile. She felt as though no good words could come from Yang Ling’s mouth, and that he was craftier than a Germite Snow Rabbit, more detestable than a dirty Sharo Boar.
After her repeated failures and being fooled by Yang Ling several times, Maryse had finally lost her patience. She no longer had the thought of wanting to make Yang Ling like her. All she wanted to do was dismember Yang Ling to alleviate her heart’s grievance.
If not for her teacher emphasizing time and time again to not easily turn into his enemy, she would have led a team of Dark Knights and Spellcasters to invade Wissen Castle, and turn Yang Ling to a skeleton using her Dark Magic.
As the time passed, in consideration for the greater picture, Maryse had had no choice but to suppress the grievance in her heart. But she did not expect to so coincidentally meet the detestable Yang Ling in this wilderness!
Should I kill him, or capture him and torment him slowly when we get back?
Looking at the crafty Yang Ling, Maryse smiled icily, slowly retrieving a mottled staff from her own magical space. As a powerful Dark Great Spellcaster, and under the protection of such a large group of Dark Knights, she was confident that she would be able to kill the Summoner Yang Ling in one move.
Even though Yang Ling was surrounded by countless bloodthirsty spiders, and they were both surrounded by ordinary spiders, she did not pay too much attention to these weak little bugs.
Yang Ling came off casual, as if he had no interest in the situation, but he watched Maryse closely. He knew that this lady had already harbored the thought of killing him. He surreptitiously took out a bunch of Wizard Amulets, and was prepared to summon the Magical Beast army to do battle at any time.
According to the explanations of Goode and the rest, even though the Dark Association had been forced back time and time again by the Church, they still had massive influence. They had their roots in the southern part of the Tailun Continent and a massive following. The well trained Dark Knights and Dark Spellcasters were the mid level forces they used against the Church, and all had powerful battle capabilities.
“Miss Maryse, your lover Steve has been searching for you all this while, he would be so happy if he knew that you were still near Wissen Town!” After a pause, he said sincerely, “My castle is very big. If you need me to, I can instruct my butler to find you a standalone villa for you two to be together. I can guarantee that you would be satisfied!”
Lover Steve? Guaranteeing that I will be satisfied?
Maryse clenched her teeth even harder, and clutched her staff. She hated to be teased. No longer content to heed her teacher’s warnings, and no longer interested in the mysterious family behind Yang Ling, she trembled with fury, and lost control.
