Chapter 93 The Subjugation Reward (4) The Undead
Chapter 93 The Subjugation Reward (4) The Undead
?"Black... Ice...?" Jean uttered as he saw black ice covering his magic saber, preventing his magic saber to unleash its fire. But, he's also a Mythril-ranked mercenary.
"As if... This will stop me!!!!" Gripping the handle tightly, he profusely imbues the saber with his mana, forcing it to activate and unleash powerful fire.
Slowly, the black ice color got turned into blazing red before it finally shattered.
*Crack!*
*Whoosh!!*
As the ice cracked and dispersed, raging flames appeared from the magic saber, reaching four meters above.
"I don't know what kind of monster you are, but don't think that you could get me just by freezing my saber with that weird magic of yours, Evocatore!!" Jean said provocatively as he points the tip of his saber to the shadow beneath the flames of the burning wagon.
At that moment, a voice finally responded to his words.
"Hm... As expected, my ice couldn't be compared to Lady Eira's majestic ice..."
What appeared is not Lyan's voice, but a deep sinister voice. A voice that filled with dark and malicious mana that makes some of Jean's underlings lose their consciousness.
When they heard the voice, they immediately know that before them is the wrong target.
"You... Who are you...?" (Jean)
"Me? I'm a loyal servant of my king, of course. Nice to meet you, the name my king gave me was Grimclaw. I was ordered to attack whoever attacked this wagon, and as he said, a bunch of fools indeed attacked the king's wagon..." The figure scoffed as he shakes his head.
"And you... What did you call me before...?" As the figure asked the question, the flames of the wagons got even bigger.
Jean recalled what he said before, and replies.
"Evocatore...?" (Jean)
At that instant.
"DON'T YOU DARE CALL THE NAME OF MY KING WITH THAT FILTHY MOUTH OF YOURS!!!" What appeared was a voice filled with a terrifying amount of dark mana. As if responding to his anger, the flames engulfing the wagon turned into bluish-black.
More mercenaries under Jean lost their consciousness because of the voice, little did he know that rather than just losing their consciousness, his underlings had just lost their souls because of the immense fear from the dense dark mana imbued inside the voice of the figure.
Of course, Jean also felt the agonizing pain in his chest. As if something inside him is trying to break free from inside. But with enough willpower, he managed to suppress it and refocus on the opponent before him.
"What a shame... The King told me not to kill you. Even though you're a perfect medium to be used as a zombie servant... But I guess the king has his reasons. At the very least, *Snap!*" With the snap of his fingers, the bluish black flame disappeared, revealing a skeletal figure clad in a grand black robe, looking at them with the terrifying red light on its eye sockets.
At the distance, Lichia that was looking at the sight together with the three muscular guild staff widened her eyes in terror as she saw the monster that appeared from beneath the flames.
Looking at the claws that are the characteristic of a famous type of skeletal monster. Lichia Muttered under her breath.
"Deadlight..." (Lichia)
As she muttered the name of the monster, the stories and legends she heard about the monster appeared inside her mind.
In one of the books, it was said that there were once three deadlights that conquered a nation and turned the whole population into the undead in a single night in the ancient times.
With their powerful claws that could also be used as a staff, they could conjure magic, summon dark creatures, and turn those who got killed by their claws into their faithful eternal servant.
"What is that kind of monster... doing here...?" (Lichia)
"Skeleton...? What is a skeleton like you doing here...?" Jean asked Grimclaw, obviously oblivious to the terror Lichia is feeling when she realized what kind of skeletal monster had just appeared.
"Hm... So you're not familiar with my kin... I guess you're not that knowledgable... What a killjoy. I guess there is no meaning of continuing this conversation any longer," The deadlight uttered disinterestedly.
Following his words, an Army of huge skeletons appeared from the surrounding forest. Looking at the figure of the skeletons, those who joined the goblin king subjugation widened their eyes in surprise when they saw them.
"Goblin champion skeletons... And hobgoblin skeletons..." (Lichia)
As the one who monitors the monster parts inspection, Lichia is well-versed in the shape and skeletal structures of the goblins, hobgoblins, and the goblin champions. So she knew, that before they are the living skeleton undead of the goblin champions and hobgoblins.
And not only that, looking at the color of their bones...
"The variants..." (Lichia)
"You must be kidding me. What kind of joke is this? I came here for that fucking newbie... Why are there an army of skeletons and a lich-like skeleton appearing from the wagon!? Why!?!?" Jean shouted in frustration. But of course, no one answered his questions.
"Sadly, I have no obligation to answer you. Shadow servants, you may also join the fray to kill these fools, but remember that the loud fool before m must not be killed. Skeletons, kill the rest," (Grimclaw)
With a single command, the massacre began.
As if retaliating because of the fireball thrown at the wagon, the goblin champion variant skeletons let out a breath of flames, killing the pack of shocked mercenaries. Of course, because of the weak physical abilities of the magician, he also got killed instantly by the flames.
After the bombarding of the breath of flame, the goblin champions charged together with the hobgoblins. They charged and killed all of the mercenaries. Because of the fear, the movement of the mercenaries became sluggish and slow. It's the effect of hearing a deadlight's voice without a holy protection on their heart or a brave heart.
Jean is also shocked and his mind couldn't stomach the abnormal existence before him. But after looking at his underlings getting killed easily right and left without being capable to fight back or kill even a single skeleton of the opposition, the rage inside him rages and takes over his confused mind.
The flame on his swords started to once again rage, but before he could let out a shout of encouragement, a single cold bone touched the back of his neck.
"You won't be killed, so go sleep on the ground for a while," said the cold voice of the Deadlight.
As if getting lullabied by the cold voice, Jean's vision turned black, his body lost its strength, and he fell flat to the ground.
"Fu....ck..." (Jean)
Looking at their leader falling flat to the ground, the members immediately know that they had lost. The skeleton that seems to be the most dangerous easily defeated their leader, and there is not even a single skeleton got crushed by their allies. And so, all of them surrendered to their fate.
The resistance that had been weak from the start got even weaker, and the massacre got even faster. It felt surreal to see the leader of the mercenaries are sleeping in the middle of the battleground while having his members getting mercilessly killed by skeletons around him.
"W-We need to go back!!" Lichia said to the muscular guild's staff, but when she turned her horse, the three muscular guild's staff had already gone. They must have fled when she got too absorbed in looking at the deadlight in the distance while trying to search for Lyan at the remnants of the wagon that fire had already distinguished.
"Those useless muscular guys..." Lichia cursed under her breath and galloped her horse at full speed to return to the city. But not long after the galloping, the horse suddenly fell, throwing her to a considerable distance.
"W-What just happened?" Lichia readied her sword as she tried to assess the situation while standing up, but a jolt of pain emerged on her left leg. It seems that it got sprained because of her fall. She tried to land using her left leg to hold her body, but the impact is too strong because of the fast speed, making her leg gets twisted instead.
*Grrr!*
A couple of growls appeared as she saw some beasts biting the horse she was riding.
"Direwolves..." Lichia uttered the name of the magic beasts before her.
They are oversized wolves that height could surpass a human's height. They are agile, strong, and have a great teamwork with each other.
As Lichia took a single step stealthily behind, attempting to stealthily flee, the biggest direwolf that seems to be the leader of the pack shifted its gaze to her and let out an order with a growl.
Responding to it, three direwolves approached Lichia from three different directions.
(Looks like I have no choice but to fight... If only I didn't sprain my leg...) (Lichia)
Lichia thought bitterly as she ready her sword and monitor the three approaching direwolves. As she resolute herself to leave the place alive, the same shadows that beheaded the mercenaries under Jean appeared.
*Slash!* *Slash!* *Slash!*
The direwolves instantly got killed, but not a single attack landed on her. The other direwolves and the leader of the pack seems to be confused and bark at the surroundings.
And suddenly-
*Whoosh!*
The bluish-black flame that she saw at the burning wagon before appeared before her eyes, burning the leader of the direwolf pack before her.
"What just... Happened...?" (Lichia)
