Chapter 116
Chapter 116
116 An Old Photograph
Once she figured out that her aunt might have known something about that boy she used to play basketball with, Zhang Li Xue became anxious.
She planned to go straight to her aunt’s place and ask if she remember that boy and his name.
Apparently, it was too late and it was not suitable for her to head over.
Zhang Li Xue planned to see her aunt in the morning.
However, her father walked over to her and told her to follow the manager and attend the morning meeting with the higher-ups.
This meeting lasted for hours. Once it ended, her father asked her to come to his office to have lunch together. She had entered the HR Department for a while and her father wanted to know what she had learned.
When everything ended, the sky had already turned dark.
Once she punched out, Zhang Li Xue drove over to her aunt’s place and rang the doorbell.
A middle-aged woman with a friendly smile opened the door for her. The moment she saw Zhang Li Xue at the door, the woman ushered her into the living room.
.....
“Is my aunt around?” Zhang Li Xue asked.
“Madam is in her room,” the woman answered. “Young Miss, wait here. I will call for her.”
Zhang Li Xue nodded. She watched as the middle-aged woman disappeared behind the wall and heaved a sigh.
Her mind wheeled as different thoughts came to her mind.
Zhang Li Xue could not stop wondering if what Fang Su Jin told her was real. Could it be that the boy who accompanied her to practice basketball in kindergarten was the same person as Doctor Bai Qi?
“Li Xue.”
The familiar voice snapped her out of her thought.
Zhang Li Xue turned around and saw that her Younger Aunt was walking in her direction. Noticing the way her aunt was dressed up, Zhang Li Xue began to worry that she had disturbed her during her rest.
“Have you eaten?” Zhang Yu Ying asked. Without waiting for her niece to answer, she turned to the auntie and instructed her to bring some refreshments. Once the auntie headed back to the kitchen, Zhang Yu Ying looked at her niece and smiled. “You didn’t tell me that you were coming. Otherwise, I would prepare something else.”
“It’s fine. Aunt, I come over to ask you a little something.”
“What is it?” Zhang Yu Ying gave her niece a look over. It was then that she realized how her niece was looking somewhat anxious. Subconsciously, she began to sit up straight.
“Aunt, do you remember when I was in kindergarten?”
Zhang Yu Ying looked at her niece in puzzlement. “What about it?”
“Do you remember that I used to have a basketball practice with a boy?” Zhang Li Xue asked cautiously. Her gaze never left her aunt’s face.
Her brow furrowed. Zhang Yu Ying tried to recall this memory and suddenly, her lips turned to a faint smile. “Mmm... I remember. You told me that no one in the kindergarten was interested in basketball, except for this one boy.”
Her eyes lit up. Zhang Li Xue was glad that her aunt still remembered things from her childhood. Perhaps, her aunt would help her to remember certain things.
“Ah! I remember that you used to call him your first teammate.”
Just like that, another memory popped up in Zhang Li Xue’s mind.
‘Hello! You are my first teammate. Congratulations!’
She could see her younger self, stretching up her hands to that boy. However, she still could not remember the boy’s face or name.
“Aunt, did you ever mention that I could not tell my parents about this teammate?”
Zhang Yu Ying began to laugh. “That’s right. Your father is too paranoid each time another boy was trying to get close to you. That was why I asked you not to tell them anything.”
Hearing this, Zhang Li Xue was more confident that her aunt would remember him.
“Then... Aunt, do you remember that boy’s name?”
“His name?” Zhang Yu Ying frowned. It was then that she began to feel that something was a bit off. Why would her niece suddenly ask her about this boy from her kindergarten? “Li Xue, what’s going on? Why would you ask about him suddenly?”
Zhang Li Xue took a deep breath, trying to calm down. “Su Jin said she ran into this boy and told me about it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember much about it. However, since Su Jin had mentioned this to me, I could not stop trying to recall some old memory. Aunt. You know that once I had something in my mind, it would be hard for me to let go until I found out the answer.”
Zhang Yu Ying nodded. She was worrying that it was something serious. “So it’s like that. Hmm...” Her lips pursed into a thin line as she tried to recall some memories. “I remember that he was from the Bai family.”
Her heart skipped a beat. Zhang Li Xue was almost sure that she had the answer, however, she did not want to appear too excited before she confirmed everything.
“Aunt, is his name Bai Qi?”
A light flashed in her eyes. “That’s right. His name is Bai Qi. Now I remember... Their family moved over to S Country for his father’s business.”
S Country?
Then, the Bai Qi from her childhood and Doctor Bai Qi are the same person?
Zhang Li Xue almost could not believe this coincidence.
At this time, the middle-aged woman returned with a tray of refreshments. She placed the tray on the coffee table before walking away.
“Li Xue, stay here for a while. I think I remember something else. Hold on, let me go and grab something.”
Before Zhang Li Xue could give her answer, her aunt had already stood up and walked away.
Zhang Li Xue sat in the living room, feeling anxious. She could not help but wonder what her aunt was going to show her. Somehow, she had a feeling that it was related to Bai Qi.
After waiting for five minutes, her aunt appeared in the living room with a smile on her face. As she approached closer, Zhang Li Xue realized that her aunt was holding a small envelope in her hand.
“Li Xue, this is for you,” Zhang Yu Ying said. She placed the envelope in her niece’s hand and sighed. “If you did not mention that boy, I would have forgotten all about this.”
Cautiously, Zhang Li Xue peeked into the envelope and pulled out the content.
It was an old photograph.
“You were so upset to hear that the boy was going to move away without telling you,” Zhang Yu Ying continued. “Then, I took you to his house and let you see him one last time. The two of you took this picture together.”
In this photograph, there was a picture of her and that boy. Both of them were facing the camera with a smile on their face.
