Chapter 139
Chapter 139
139 Especially For You
As he was lining up at the cafeteria to buy their lunch, Bai Qi was still thinking of what he should do with his current situation.
He really did not mind if anything happened to him. The person he worried about the most was his little sister. With the new schedule, it seemed that he will have to ask Auntie Ji to help him look after Bai Xi Xi.
But... what about her parents and teacher meeting?
He couldn’t possibly ask Auntie Ji to attend it in his stead, right?
Bai Qi was considering meeting the higher-up to ask about his situation when a voice called him, asking him what he wanted.
He snapped out of his trance and realized that the auntie was looking at him. Seeing the impatient look in the elder woman’s eyes, Bai Qi quickly chose a few dishes.
After paying for the meal, Bai Qi held the tray before walking over to Zhang Li Xue again.
His little fairy was looking out the window, watching the garden from her seat. Her expression and posture looked peaceful. It gave him a feeling that he should not go and disturb her.
As he approached closer, Zhang Li Xue turned to him and smiled.
.....
His heart skipped a beat.
Recently, Bai Qi realized that each time Zhang Li Xue smiled at him, his heart would beat fast. It was something that he could not control.
Bai Qi tightened his grip on the tray as he forced himself to calm down. He placed the tray on the table, before sliding into the seat across her.
Seeing the way Zhang Li Xue was eying the chicken wings on the plate made him chuckle.
His little fairy was too adorable.
If it was not because of the time and place, he would reach his hand to pinch at her cheek again.
“Miss Zhang, it couldn’t be that you’re coming to see me just to eat chicken wings, right?” Knowing how much she liked chicken wings, Bai Qi found that he could not stop himself from teasing her.
A light flickered in her eyes. Zhang Li Xue looked at Bai Qi and blinked. “Of course, not.” She chuckled.
Eating the chicken wings from the cafeteria was only her side quests. She had actually come over to the hospital to find him.
After pondering about it for a while, Zhang Li Xue picked up the paper bag that she had placed on the empty seat beside her. She placed it on the table and pushed it across the table.
Bai Qi glanced at the paper bag before turning at the girl with an inquiring look in his eyes.
“This is for you,” Zhang Li Xue said.
Bai Qi did not immediately take the paper bag. “What is it?”
“Just some cakes,” Zhang Li Xue said. “Actually, I came to look for you to give this cake to you.” Her lips turned into a smile. “My mother made this. She wanted to thank you for coming to visit the other day to check on me and my brother.”
Bai Qi was about to reach for the paper bag when he heard the reason Zhang Li Xue’s mother wanted to give him this cake. “This... this isn’t necessary.” Bai Qi looked embarrassed. “I only come to visit because of Doctor Qi.”
Zhang Li Xue pushed the paper bag to Bai Qi again. “You have to accept it. Otherwise, we won’t feel good about it.”
Initially, it was Qi Zheng who was supposed to come over and check on them.
Zhang Li Xue had already felt guilty when her father let her Uncle Qi Zheng make the trip for them.
Bai Qi was a surgeon, but they let him visit their house to check on her and her brother who had caught a cold.
Of course, they did not feel good about it.
Zhang Li Xue looked at him with a gaze that tell him that he was not allowed to reject it. “My mom made this, especially for you. It won’t be easy for anyone to taste her craft, you know? Moreover, I also helped to make this cake.”
Bai Qi hesitated. After a while, he decided to accept the gift. “Please help to thank your mother for me.”
Her smile brightened, knowing that Bai Qi won’t be rejecting the gift. “That’s good. You can share the cake with Xi Xi.” After saying what she came to say, Zhang Li Xue lowered her head and eyed the chicken wings on the plate.
Hearing his sister’s name made him pause. The smile on his lips gradually disappeared.
When Zhang Li Xue looked up again, she noticed that Bai Qi seemed to be in a trance. She waved her hand in front of him and smiled when he looked at her. “Doctor Bai, what’s in your mind?” Her brow rose. “Problem at work?”
Bai Qi was surprised when Zhang Li Xue guessed correctly. He lowered his head, not wanting to let her see the look on his face.
“Nothing.” He flashed a smile before shifting his gaze at the food. “Let’s just eat before the food gets cold. That’s right. Don’t just eat the chicken wings. Remember to eat some vegetables too.”
Zhang Li Xue continued to look at the man in front of her.
Her instinct was telling her that Bai Qi was hiding something. She wanted to inquire about it. However, Zhang Li Xue realized that she could not force him to tell her anything if he was not willing to talk. Knowing him again in this short time, Zhang Li Xue could see that Bai Qi was someone who had his pride.
He won’t talk about the difficulties he was facing.
Her heart ached when she realized this.
Zhang Li Xue wished that there was something that she could do to lighten up his burden.
Seeing that Bai Qi had lowered his head to eat his meal, Zhang Li Xue finally heaved a sigh. She reached for her chopsticks and began to eat the food.
Zhang Li Xue made a mental note to ask her Uncle Qi Zheng about Bai Qi later.
