Chapter 89
Chapter 89
89 Queuing for Milk Tea
At the end of the meal, Zhang Li Xue paid for their food before they both left together.
Bai Qi watched as the girl stepped out of the restaurant. Then, she turned to him with a smile on her face. He couldn’t help thinking about how she was quick to adjust her mood.
He was still worried that Zhang Li Xue would continue to stay upset after they had talked briefly about her late great-grandpa.
Moreover, the girl seemed to have quite an appetite. Bai Qi was admiring that she could finish that plate of chicken wings all by herself.
It seemed that she really does love chicken wings.
His lips curled into a smile as he recalled the way Zhang Li Xue ate her meal.
“Doctor Bai,” Zhang Li Xue turned around and smiled. “How was it? The food from this restaurant is quite good, right?”
“Mmm...” Bai Qi nodded. “You are right.”
The food was delicious, especially as he was eating this meal with her. Bai Qi was thinking that perhaps, he should bring Xi Xi to this restaurant later when he gets his paycheck. Their noodles were good as well and Xi Xi would love them.
.....
“Miss Zhang, thank you,” Bai Qi said. He touched the tip of his nose and spoke, “Actually, I only gave you some cookies and hot oat. But you treated me to something expensive.”
“As long as you like it. I’m just glad that you were enjoying the food.” Her head tilted to one side. “If you’re feeling uncomfortable about it, then, how about buying me a cup of milk tea?”
“Alright.”
Zhang Li Xue was smiling brightly at his response.
The two of them walked side by side as they enjoyed the surroundings. The girl was busy looking at the shops and the people around. Meanwhile, the boy only had his eyes on the girl.
Bai Qi thought that it was a rare occasion for him to have the chance to walk around with his little fairy. Perhaps it would be hard to get this chance again in the future. Therefore, he should savor this moment.
When they arrived at the milk tea shop again, there was already a long queue.
Zhang Li Xue looked at the queue and hesitated. “Maybe we could come again some other day.”
Bai Qi observed the girl and thought that he saw the longing in her eyes. It seemed that she really wanted to drink this milk tea.
He glanced at his watch and spoke, “It’s still early. Although it’s a bit long, the queue seems to be moving fast. Maybe it wouldn’t be long before our turn?”
Zhang Li Xue followed his gaze and thought that his words made sense.
“How about this? Miss Zhang, you can go ahead and pick a seat first. I’ll come over to you once I get our milk tea. What do you want?”
“Ah?” Zhang Li Xue bit her lips as she weighted her decision.
She still wanted the milk tea. However, it wouldn’t be right to let Bai Qi queue. “Then, how about we queue together?” Zhang Li Xue suggested. “It would be boring for you to queue alone. How about I accompany you here? Let’s talk.”
Around them, there were a few couples who were seen queuing for the milk tea together. The girl would hold her boyfriend’s arm as they chatted.
Bai Qi glanced at the girl beside him again and an indescribable feeling arose in his heart.
“Alright. I’ll follow your words.”
Zhang Li Xue smiled happily again.
As the two of them were queuing, Zhang Li Xue continued to look at the milk tea menu on her phone and suggested a few flavors that she liked to him. Each time she described the flavor, she would do it enthusiastically.
Bai Qi listened attentively to his words and smiled. “Miss Zhang, you’re a foodie, aren’t you?”
Zhang Li Xue paused before laughing about it. There was a hint of pink on her cheek.
“I don’t mean anything. I just thought that the way you talked about food is especially full of enthusiasm.”
“Mmm,... Then, I guess you could say so.”
According to her father, she was very similar to her mother. Both of them were foodies. However, other than chicken wings, Zhang Li Xue also liked something sweet.
She once heard that when her mother was pregnant with her, her mother seemed to like eating sweets a lot. However, her father thought that she should control her sugar intake. Her mother was so sad that she decided to go back to B City. In the end, her father had to buy a box of cakes to coax her mother.
“I liked eating delicious food. To be able to at is a good thing, isn’t it?”
Bai Qi chuckled. “I guess you’re right.”
“It doesn’t matter if I eat a little bit more. I’ll burn those calories after practicing basketball.” Her eyes lit up again. “Speaking about basketball, Doctor Bai, your skills were very good. I’m thinking that if you still play after high school, you could have been a professional player as well.”
“I have thought about it as well. When I was in high school, I got some offers to go professional.”
Zhang Li Xue was watching the man with her eyes full of adoration.
“But I think, I wanted to become a doctor a lot more.” Bai Qi smiled.
As for the reason he had worked hard to become a doctor... it was all because of his grandmother. His grandmother was probably his favorite person other than Zhang Li Xue.
When she got sick, Bai Qi was too helpless. He was by her side, but he found out that there was nothing he could do about it.
He heard that if her grandmother was given early treatment, she might have survived. Unfortunately, everything was too late.
He thought about it a long time and decided that it was not a bad thing to learn medical skills. Perhaps, in the future, he will no longer watch the people by his side die, when he could actually do something about it.
Learning medicine became something that he became interested in.
“Doctor Bai, I have a request.” Zhang Li Xue spoke. “How about having a match with me when you are free?”
Bai Qi was stunned by her request. Slowly, his lips gradually turned to a smile. “Alright.”
