''Jay, you still like Ever, right? Listen, I don't know why you two suddenly broke up when things were going on so well between you but if you still like Ever and can't bear to let her go, instead of acting aloof, you need to hold on to her shamelessly if not you might actually lose her''

''Did Ever tell you something?''

''No, she didn't but I can tell the breakup hurt her a lot. Are you sure you didn't do anything to hurt her unknowingly?''

''Unknowingly? We planned to meet after the auctioning at New York but she never came only to send me a message and breaking up with me''

''She didn't go to the auction? But, Amber told me she was the one who bought the ticket for Ever. Jay, I think you need to find out what happened, because Ever was there at the auctioning'' Jade said.

Upon hearing their conversation, Ann who was about to enter into the house stood rooted at the door. She bit her lips nervously and thought. What will happen if Jayden actually finds out she had something to do with Ever's departure and their subsequent breakup? She bit her lips hard until she could taste blood.

Looking at the evidence in her hands, she turned back to her office without going inside again. If there was anything to be done, she had to make sure Ever left the hotel as soon as possible. She couldn't let her plans to be discovered or all the years she had spent by Jayden's side will be in vain. She loved Jayden first, what right did Ever have to deserve him?

Ann entered her office and picked up the landline beside her desk and called the kitchen ''get Ignatius to come to my office'' she said into the phone and hung up. Though she wasn't the one who messed with the cake, she was going to take advantage of the situation and use it very well.

She inserted the recording drive she took from the security team into her desktop where she watched with a cold gaze. A knock on the door brought her back to her senses and she looked towards it saying ''come in''

Ignatius, the same kitchen staff who acted suspiciously when Ever said she was going to get to the bottom of the situation entered into the office.

''Sit down'' Ann commanded and he did.

''You called for me?'' Ignatius asked nervously.

''Why did you do it?'' Ann asked straightforwardly.

''I don't understand what you mean, Miss Ann''

''You were the one who put the peanut butter into the cake to be served to the guest. You intended to frame Miss Ever and get her fired, right?''

''Miss Ann, I…'' Ignatius was speechless.

''Do you have a problem with Miss Ever?''

''I was initially the one supposed to be the chief pastry chef before Miss Ever joined this hotel. Just because she completed a famous pastry school and is from a powerful family, the position was given to her. Since then, no one paid attention to me again. I was demoted to a mere assistant that no one cares about. Miss Ann, please, save me. I don't want to lose my job'' Ignatius said and knelt on the floor.

''Stand up. Actually, I can save you but on one condition'' Ann said slyly.

''I will do whatever you want me to'' Ignatius said hurriedly.

''You are the last person Ever will suspect that you have a hand in this because she trusts you, so with that trust, I want you to make her do something for me''

''You mean, you want to use me to destroy Miss Ever?''

''Not destroy her. As long as she remains in this hotel, no one will ever recognise you. You will always remain under her shadow. The upcoming contest, make her join it'' Ann said and looked at Ignatius with a darkened expression ''you understand what I mean, right?''

''Yes, Miss Ann, I do'' Ignatius nodded his head, deep down he was scared by her gaze.

''Good. As long as you remain loyal to me, I will make sure you get recognised for your work. You can leave now'' Ann dismissed him and he stood up at once.

''Yes, Miss Ann'' Ignatius left the office immediately and Ann turned to the desktop. She touched the mouse and highlighted the entire recording of where Ignatius sneaked into the kitchen when Ever left for the washroom and deleted that part entirely. She smirked.

Ignatius returned and saw Ever busy making cupcakes into different shapes. He walked over to her and looked at them with a smile.

''Those look cute'' he said to Ever.

''They do, right? A friend likes to eat them so I always make them for her'' Ever said cheerfully.

"Did you add lemon to them? They smell nice''

''Yes, I did to lower the sugar content in them. Do you want to taste some when I finish?'' Ever asked and looked at him. He was indeed the last person Ever would have thought was capable of harming her.

''Sure, I will have a bite. Your cupcakes are always great''

''Sure, I will leave you some''

''Miss Ever, about the upcoming contest. Do you really have no intention of competing against Benita?'' Ignatius asked.

''Yes, I don't want to do it. So, it will be just you and Benita going head to head. I wish you all the best''josei

''But, your current position will be taken away and given to the winner. Are you not scared about that?''

''What is there to be afraid of? Besides, I think that in regards to food, if one has passion and talent for it, it is enough. I don't want to compete with anyone for food. Food should be revered and not be treated as something to promote one. I just want to live doing the thing I love the most. As long as I can make the pastry I love and watch people become happy eating them, I am happy too. There is not much to life than simplicity''

''So, you hate competitions?''

''Yes, I hate competitions and I hate having to compete with people for anything''

''But, if you don't fight for what you want, how will you achieve your goals?''

''Goals are important, they are our driving forces, but what is the essence of fighting for them when you end up losing focus? Instead of just fighting for your goals, it is much better to know when to fight and when not to fight''

A clap came from the door and Ever turned and saw Jade walking in.

''Indeed, I always knew you were a hidden gem but today, I was blown away by your speech. Everest, being friends with you in this life is really due to the good deeds of my past lives'' Jade said making Ever shake her head.

''I thought you had work to do? You were so serious on the phone when I left you'' Ever said. As soon as they entered her office, Jade received a call that lasted for so long that she had to leave her and go to the kitchen.

''It was a small matter'' Jade said and looked at Ignatius.

''I will go back to my work now, Miss Ever'' Ignatius said and left the bakery immediately.

''Who is that?'' Jade asked.

''He is Ignatius, a pastry chef'' Ever answered and placed the cupcakes inside the oven.

''He is acting suspicious. He avoided eye contact with me'' Jade said to Ever.

''Everyone is suspicious to you, detective Conan. I'm done here. This will take about 30 minutes'' Ever said pulling Jade out of the bakery ''this is out of bounds to non-kitchen staff Miss Saint''

''I am not a stranger technically, Miss France'' Jade replied and they laughed as they walked out of the kitchen. Ever's stomach growled and she placed her hands on it shyly.

''Are you hungry? Didn't you eat the whole day?'' Jade asked.

''Oh, I was so occupied and barely had time for food''

''This won't do. I need to feed you ASAP. Who will supply me with snacks if you die out of starvation'' Jade said and took hold of Ever's hand.

''Aren't you been a little exaggerative? Who dies from not eating for just a day?''

''I don't care; I need to feed you. let's go to the restaurant, my treat''

''No, I will check from the chief chef if there are some leftover ingredients, let's make friend rice'' Ever said and Jade licked her lips.

''That sounds like a plan, let's go'' the two ladies turned to the main kitchen door and went inside. They saw the chief chef looking at something in a frying pan and they walked over.

''Whoa, this looks delicious'' Jade said as she looked at the fried rice in the pan.

''Jade, when did you come?'' the chief chef asked quite surprised. In the hotel, he was probably the only one apart from a few others who knew the true identities of both Ever and Jade.

''Mr. Hugh, can we eat that? We are hungry'' Ever said also licking her lips.
