Chapter 245: Finding a fake fiancé 2

Monday after work, Chloe arrived and called the girls to the hall. They looked at her expectantly as she removed her journal from her bag and opened it, ''so, while I was at work, I asked around and a co-worker directed me to this dating website. It is more like a matchmaking site where you set up your profile and everything, and then they will match you to someone who meets your credentials. I set up the profile using Kris' picture and guess what?'' she paused and looked at them.

''Just tell us already'' Brenda said impatiently.

''I got ten requests in less than two hours. Kris, you are a hot girl''

''Really?'' Kristine asked in a doubtful manner.

''Don't underestimate those dimples, Kris. You don't know how they make you beautiful when you smile. Your chocolate skin is also an added advantage. You were the only coloured girl on the platform and honey, you got the highest requests'' Chloe was excited as she spoke.

''That's nice. Darling, you might end up finding Mr. Right among them'' Jenny said and Brenda rolled her eyes.

''Yeah, right. She isn't looking for Mr. Right. She just need someone to visit the family with'' Brenda said.

''I pray the man ticking you off at work place makes you fall for him one of these days. Then, you would believe that there is something called true love'' Jenny said to Brenda.

''What? Hey, are you asking for a beating?''

''Okay, that's enough. Both of you'' Chloe said to them.

''She is trying to jinx my life''

Kristine and Chloe shook their heads.

''So, I narrowed the list now to five. Jenny as we discussed earlier, you are in charge of getting the venue. Brenda will meet with them''

''I hope this works'' Kristine said.

''It will work; Lucy cannot have the last laugh''

''I agree with Brenda'' Jenny said Brenda gave her a thumps up.

''Have faith, Kris. Lucy can bring that American banker; we will also bring someone even better'' Chloe said determinedly.

''He is a lawyer'' Jenny corrected her.

''I don't care. I hope we meet a doctor among the men. I am into doctors lately''

''We are not doing it for you'' Brenda said and stood up asking, ''who is in charge of cooking this week, I'm hungry''

''I'm in charge. Go all should go and wash up, dinner will be ready soon'' Kris said and stood up.

EAT RIGHT RESTAURANT.

Kristine was in charge of counter service today. There was quite a crowd and she was busy taking orders and sending them to the kitchen for the food reservation. Wednesday was their busiest days as the fashion house across the street always host street fairs every last Wednesday of the month.

She finished taking the order her 35th customer when her phone started buzzing endlessly inside her pocket. Jenny walked out with some orders to give out and heard the sound of the buzzing. She had really sharp ears and could still hear it even though it was on vibration.

''Kris, your phone is buzzing''

''It's rush hour, I will call back later'' she said and took the bags of food from Jenny and started calling out the names of the people that ordered for them.

An hour later, the crowd had subsided a little and the counter wasn't so crowded anymore. The people for afternoon shift had also arrived to take over.

Kristine was about to go into the cloakroom to change when the phone started buzzing again. She sighed and removed it to see her mother's name on it.

''Who is calling you?'' Jenny entered into the cloakroom and asked.josei

''It's my mom. I will answer this and be back soon'' Kristine walked through the backdoor to outside of the restaurant and received the call.

''Mom''

''How is my babe doing?'' Mrs. Kate asked.

''I'm fine, mom. I told you to always call me at 18:00PM. That's the time I get off work. Are you trying to get me fired from my workplace?''

''That's what I want. Anyway, I have bad news for you. I don't know how your grandpa found out about your cancelled wedding. The old man is very angry this time around''

''Mom, I don't care what he thinks of me anymore. I will always be a failure to him. I don't care whether he is angry or not. This was going to be my marriage. He never cared about me, why is he angry that my wedding got called off?''

''That is not all. Lucy called that she is getting engaged. Your grandfather said you must be there during the engagement party or he will interfere with your work. Don't say I didn't warn you''

''Even here, he still wants to interfere with my life? Mom, just what exactly have you been telling that old man about me? Are you giving him information about me? Please, can you just leave me to live my life the way I want to? I am already going crazy from trying to find a man just so I can secure that useless inheritance I have nothing to do with. Do you think men are like puppies that you can easily find in the market? Mom, don't you feel pity for me at all? Can you please cut me some slack? I feel like I am going crazy from everything that is going on around me, mother''

''I'm sorry. I'm such a heartless mother who is using my daughter to secure the inheritance her late father left her, but you know what Kris? I am doing this for you and your brother. I worry about you every day. I wonder if you are eating well or sleeping well. I wonder if you are getting along with your colleagues or you are being bullied. I want you to get something from what rightly belongs to you so that you can set up your dream restaurant. I am such a selfish mother, so vent your frustrations out on me, okay?''

Kristine sighed and massaged her forehead.

''Mom, I'm sorry. I know you are doing everything for my good. I'm sorry that I vented my frustrations out on you'' Kristine said and turned. She saw a man standing awkwardly at a distance and frowned. ''Mom, I will call you later'' she said and hung up before walking closer to the man.

''Were you eavesdropping on me?''

''I'm sorry. I didn't listen to you intentionally. I came here to speak to someone on the phone because the street is noisy. You were walking about as you spoke on the phone and I didn't know how to leave without alerting you. I was just waiting for you to leave before I go'' the man explained and looked at Kristine. He suddenly remembered her. she was the one who bumped into his at the resort in Neo Island but he knew it wasn't the first time he was seeing her.

''You can leave first'' Kristine said to him and stepped aside for him to pass. When he got to her side, she said to him, ''wait. I hope we never meet again''

''Well, I don't know what to say about that'' the man said and smirked before leaving''

''I don't know what to say about that?'' Kristine repeated his statement and frowned, ''what does that mean?''

Ronald got to the street and turned back to look at her again. He smiled and waved his hand at her before crossing the road.

''What is that? What is wrong with that man?'' Kristine shook her head and went inside the restaurant.

Across the road, the man got into his car and turned to face a small girl about 8 years sitting on the front seat.

''Uncle Ronald, why are you smiling like that?''

''I met a funny woman when I went to call grandpa just now''

''A funny woman? Is she pretty like me?'' she asked and he nodded his head.

''Well, she is pretty but there was something else about her that was appealing.

''This is the first time you are calling a woman appealing after Hanna''

''I know, right? I feel that this isn't going to the last time I will be seeing her''

''Uncle, I think you like her. Uncle Pete said whenever a man says ''this isn't going to be the last time I will be seeing you' to a woman, it means he likes her''

''Aye, what has that lost soul been teaching you?'' Ronald shook his head and drove the car away.

''Uncle Ronald, lets pass by the mall. I want to buy some food for fluffy''

''Okay, Ginger''

Kristine went back to the cloakroom and saw Jenny waiting for her. ''Are you done changing already?''

''Yes, I will be waiting outside'' Jenny picked her bag.

''I will be out quick''
