Chapter 30 - Prototype (Part 2)
Chapter 30 - Prototype (Part 2)
Wallace arrived at the National Magic Trade and Industry building late in the afternoon. There he met with some familiar people who helped him process his patent application.
As he had given a notice before his visit, the personnel already made some arrangements for him. He was now sitting at the receiving room and was greeted by a man in his fifties with a warm smile.
"Hello there Wallace, I've heard a lot about you from your mother. It seems that you have a promising future ahead of you."
"You flattered me. I probably inherited it from my mom."
Wallace humbly accepted his praises and wondered who this person is. He was about to ask his name because he really can't remember to have met this person, introduced by his mother or met even in photos.
"Oh, I forgot. I'm Bryson. Bryson Grant."
Bryson introduced himself as he extended his hand for a shake.
This time, Wallace had made some recollection. Bryson Grant was a name recorded in the books he has read. He is an underrated magic engineer who had made a lot of contribution in the recent years of mana study.
To have met the engineer in person and to be known by him was really flattering. This man has contributed a lot to developing Arcane Force Field that now protects every large city of Zairus from any large scale magic bombardments. Wallace was very interested in how this force field works too.
There was also this Argus Drones v1.6 that was used for combat and reconnaissance. Although these drones or formally known as unmanned aerial vehicles that were developed by Nord Aviation was still immature compared to what Wallace was aware of, their creations were already amazing despite their lacking energy sources.
Unfortunately, due to years of no advancement in this field and lack of funds, further research was canceled. There were others like Aerial Gaze, drones who were only capable of surveillance and border patrol that was developed but the Argus Drone created by Bryson Grant's team was already the latest and most advanced drone technology that has ever appeared.
Although there's no war that was brewing in the past hundred years, magicians never stopped to research, develop and improve their abilities. Having a peaceful time only allowed these genius talents in their fields to better their skills. Of course, up to when this peaceful time will last, Wallace was certainly not aware.
It seems that I still underestimated my parent's connections.
This was what he thought since this person has a level of prestige in the magic engineering field.
"It's my honor to meet such an exemplary magician."
Wallace respectfully shook his hand with Bryson as they started to discuss the mana artifact that he brought with him. They proceeded in the evaluation room as Wallace took out the oversized bag with him and brought out a device.
It is a black device or machine that can be worn at the back of a magician with a size of 2 ft and weighed for 16.3 kg. It scaled just to cover the back of a person and one noticeable feature of this device is the protruding semi-circle at the back. It's pitch black circle felt like a black hole that could devour you in.
Bryson was a bit bewildered by this unusual artifact, but as a magician who has seen many incredible things, it didn't show on his face and browsed over the description of the mana artifact.
It was this time that he was astounded by the capabilities of this Float Drive System that Wallace has created. He was amazed about the usage of mana and electromagnetic principle in this device that allows the user to float and fly for a maximum speed of 260 mph and its operation time also lasts for 6 hours.
How?
It was the question that Bryson would like to ask.
Of course, this technology was still very crude in front of Wallace so he was okay on releasing some information for the country and give him enough prestige for a chance to participate in the competition. After all, once he contributed here, it will not go unnoticed in the academy since Leonhearts Academy is tied to a government's military and his identity as a student there will give him an opportunity.
As Wallace looked at Mr. Bryson who was seriously studying the artifact, took a seat and waited. Evaluation for this artifact would take quite some time so grade will be given. It may take a day or two if the personnel focused only on evaluating it.
"It seems I would need other magic engineers stationed to give a proper evaluation. Rest assured that with such a perfect magic structure and components of the material, this will be evaluated highly."
Of course, it wasn't perfect for Wallace but he just smiled at this. He only waited for 15 minutes before four other magic engineers arrived and with Bryson's lead, they carefully evaluated the mana artifact.
"This is such an amazing artifact to be called a prototype!"
"Float Drive System... such a superb way of utilizing mana cycle."
"To think this was made by a 2nd-year student in the Academy"
"This... when I was in the Academy, I was struggling just on fabricating a mana artifact."
Some comments can be heard from the engineers as they look at this mana artifact.
Since he had been asked to stay during the evaluation of the mana artifact, he seated in a corner and answered some questions from time to time. It seems they were eager to understand the principle of this technology as they also scrutinized the magic structure it has.
They were certainly curious about the energy source of this artifact. But the main system on how the engine works were secured and not explained clearly in what has Wallace submitted.
Of course, Wallace would still like to keep how this harnesses byproducts of particle decay. Something that this engineer was not capable of doing as of yet.
If Wallace had not studied this part for about 2 years and repaired multiple mech frames in space, he wouldn't acquire this knowledge.
After about 3 hours of studying, it was time to test its practical performance. He wasn't nervous or anything and was even happy to move forward at this stage. He was confident in his creation after all.
It was already late in the evening when Wallace arrived back at his workshop. The artifact was graded as A as what he expected.
"Pathfinder, will you not give rewards for that?"
No answer came from the pathfinder but Wallace did not care about it and just like to strike conversation on it since there are times that is answers.
"Pathfinder? I think it would be great if you could help me get supplies too. After all, I have a lot of idea's in my mind about my further improvement but I can't progress since materials here were so scarce and some may not even exist here."
He would like to ask about this since pathfinder could produce materials that could even be given to other people. He tested it before with his female instructor.
It should have stocks of items or materials on it so Wallace was thinking that it would be helpful if he has other options to get some items from it without completing a mission... like purchasing it instead.
