Chapter 366

Chapter 366 He Concealed the Truth

“Your grandmother’s second uncle.” Howard looked around and, seeing nobody else around, he continued, “Because she disappeared with her second uncle, there have been many unpleasant rumors circulating about them, like elopement and incest. The Songos even issued a warning that they would hold those who gossiped about it responsible. But I’ve always believed that your grandmother isn’t that kind of person.”

Cecelia was shocked by the news and nodded. “Okay, Howard. Thank you for telling me!”

As those several people left the archive and got into the car, Cecelia contemplated what she had just learned about.

She asked, “My grandmother’s second uncle is Alfred’s father, right?”

“Yes,” someone responded.

“Did he actually disappear with my grandmother? I’ve never heard of this before, and Alfred never told me about it. Instead, he said that my mother eloped with someone else.”

Cecelia analyzed the situation and became even more certain that Alfred had concealed all the truths.

Remington chimed in, “I can understand. He wouldn’t spread rumors about his own father. The Songos value their reputation a lot. They would never let such rumors spread.”

Cecelia nodded. “But I’m sure there was nothing going on between my grandmother and her second uncle. She loved my grandfather, Allen.”

“Yeah. There must be another hidden story. We need to continue investigating. Perhaps only by uncovering everything can we find clues about your mother’s whereabouts,” said Remington.

Cecelia responded, “You’re right. My mother’s disappearance is definitely part of the conspiracy. When you and Kevin have the chance, please check out the Songo family’s buildings in secret and see if there are any hidden secret rooms or the like.”

“Okay,” Remington replied.

The next stop for them was the home of Spencer, the former private lawyer for the Songo family.

Cecelia had already found out Spencer’s residence with a private detective’s help. It was located in a quaint town called Marinatown on the outskirts of Porema.

They arrived at the quaint town according to the address.

“It’s just on the road ahead,” Cecelia instructed, according to the address, and Adam made the turn.

A tranquil lake came into view, and by the lake stood a small building with white walls and red tiles. It was reflected in the water, which created an exceptionally beautiful scene.

Spencer chose this place to enjoy his old age after retiring, which was indeed a good decision.

However, as the three people approached the building, they saw an ambulance parked downstairs. They got out of the car and saw medical personnel carrying a stretcher out.

On the stretcher lay an old man. It should be the lawyer, Spencer, if they were not mistaken.

The medical staff got the old man into the ambulance, and two younger family members of the old man got into it, too. The ambulance quickly drove away.

Cecelia, Remington, and Adam looked at one another in surprise and wondered, “What a weird coincidence! Spencer was actually rushed to the hospital as soon as we arrived.”

An old woman was standing at the entrance, holding a cane, watching the ambulance driving away.

Cecelia approached the gate and greeted her, “Hello, ma’am!”

“Who are you?” The old woman looked at Cecelia and her friends, feeling a sense of unfamiliarity.

Cecelia responded, “We are from the Songo family. Is Mr. Lowell your husband?”

The old woman said, “Ah, so, you’re Songos. Yes, I’m Spencer’s wife. What can I do for you?”

“Mrs. Lowell, can we meet Mr. Lowell?” Cecelia asked.

The old woman sighed, “Unfortunately, my husband had a sudden heart attack today. As you saw earlier, he was taken away in an ambulance.”

Cecelia responded, “I feel really sorry about it. May I ask you a few questions?”

The old woman replied, “Sure. Please go ahead!”

Cecelia continued, “Do you know about the incident that happened 60 years ago in the Songo family? The one about some missing people?”

The old woman’s face changed dramatically when she was suddenly asked about the incident that had happened 60 years ago, and a hint of panic appeared on her aged face.

“I don’t know, I don’t know anything about it! Don’t ask me!”

The old woman turned and entered the house, closing the gate behind her.

Cecelia and the others were left standing outside. They couldn’t simply force their way in, so they could only go back.

On the way back, Cecelia thought of the old woman’s panicked expression earlier and frowned. “It seemed to strike a nerve with her. This further confirms that what happened back then was not a small matter.”

“Yeah, I even suspect that Spencer’s sudden heart attack was not a coincidence. Could it be that someone contacted and warned him before our arrival, and it caused the heart attack?” Remington speculated.

“If that’s the case, it suggests that every action we take is under their control. They seem to be aware of what we want to investigate and are destroying the leads we uncover one by one.”

“I think Alfred is probably behind the scenes. The tracking car this morning is the best proof.”

“I have an idea. If they continue to trail after us, why don’t we…?”

Cecelia shared her plan with the others, and they both nodded in agreement. “Sounds great! Let’s do it!”

By the time the three of them returned to the Songo’s from Marinatown, night had already fallen.

They split up in the garden. Cecelia went to the living room and met her eldest cousin, Warda.

Warda seemed to have been waiting for her there. When he saw Cecelia return, he greeted her with a smile, “Good evening, Cecelia! You’re finally back. Where have you been? I couldn’t find you.”

“I went out for a stroll. Warda, is there anything I can help you with?” Cecelia asked calmly.

Warda said, “I heard about what happened during the day. It was Mizey’s fault, so on her behalf, I apologize to you. I hope you won’t take it to heart.”

While speaking, Warda fixed his lustful eyes on Cecelia. Cecelia avoided his gaze and took a few steps into the living room. “It’s okay. Never mind. I believe Mizey just did it in a moment of madness.”

Warda responded, “Good! Then I’m relieved. By the way, I’ve heard that you and my grandpa are going to visit the Songo Dyehouse tomorrow. Is that true?”

“Yes,” Cecelia replied.

“I’m free tomorrow, too. I can go with you.” Warda approached Cecelia again, getting too close and violating an appropriate distance, which caused Cecelia to feel repulsed.

She gently moved away, discreetly changing the subject. “Where are other people? Why can’t I see them?”

Warda replied, “They’re all in the dining hall. It’s time to have dinner. Let’s go there, too!”

Cecelia followed him to the dining hall. Most of the Songo family’s members had already arrived. Some of them were unhappy because Cecelia’s late return delayed the meal, but they dared not openly express their dissatisfaction.

A wave of anger washed over Mariah when she saw her husband fix his gaze on Cecelia.

The moment Cecelia entered, a cup of scalding tea was spilled on her.

Cecelia saw something flying towards her and instinctively raised her hand to protect her face, but her arms and body still ended up getting scalded by the tea, and her clothes got wet.

“Oops! I’m sorry, Cecelia. I didn’t notice you.” Mariah put down the teacup in her hand and quickly rushed over to apologize, “Are you all right?”
