Chapter 136: She was almost about to die of anxiety for the demon outside (1)

After several seconds had passed, there was the sound of an obvious chuckle. After that moment of delay, Ruan Qiuqiu finally registered Yuan Jue’s earlier words.

Wait a minute, demon?

Ruan Qiuqiu immediately became clear-headed. She scrambled to get out of bed, but her waist ached and she didn’t have any strength. She tried to sit up several times without success.

Why would a demon come to see them? The wolf demons from the Fire Wolf Tribe clearly hated Yuan Jue. It couldn’t be that Lu Ziran had come back, right? Based on Yuan Jue’s calm tone just now, it didn’t seem like the visiting demon was someone that he disliked or one that he found dangerous.

Ruan Qiuqiu clutched her hair. She felt that everything had been thrown into confusion since she had woken up.

Feeling a cool breeze by her side, Ruan Qiuqiu turned to look and saw a broad and thin back.

Her wolf had sat up.

Yuan Jue reached his slender arm towards the wooden stick that he had broken last night and left by the bed. Slowly, he stood up.

His long black hair was hanging down. He slightly turned his head and half of his handsome face was illuminated by the stove fire. The fine hair on that side of his face could be seen.

That sight paired with the motley animal skin robe that she had rushed to make gave off an old-fashioned and nefarious look.

Ruan Qiuqiu curved her eyes. When Yuan Jue doubtfully looked over, she stealthily closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep, copying him.

Yuan Jue’s expression was somewhat gloomy. His pitch-black eyebrows were furrowed. He felt wronged; he knew that she was pretending to be asleep. The sensitive wolf had automatically translated her actions as not wanting to see him because she was upset.

Despite that, he felt it was normal that she was disdainful of him for taking advantage of when she was sick and unconscious to share a blanket with her.

There was a repeated pecking sound coming from the entrance of the cave. The sound wasn’t loud, but it was clear. It was as if someone was knocking on the door.

Ruan Qiuqiu secretly opened her eyes a crack. She saw Yuan Jue leisurely making his way to the stone stove with the wooden stick and then boiling water.

Ruan Qiuqiu: “…”

What was this wolf doing?

The sound of pecking had stopped. There was silence from the entrance for a long time. The visiting demon might have left.

When the water had boiled, Yuan Jue ladled out the hot water. While waiting for the water to cool down, he dipped an animal skin in the water and used it to wipe his face.

Ruan Qiuqiu: “…”

The demon outside the door seemed to have gotten anxious from waiting; there was the sound of anxious bird calls.

The wolf had finally finished washing up. When Ruan Qiuqiu thought he was going to open the door, he walked over to her with the bowl of water that had cooled down.

Ruan Qiuqiu: “…”

She was almost about to die of anxiety for the demon outside.

Feeling very embarrassed, Ruan Qiuqiu opened her eyes and quietly said, “I’ll drink the water myself.”

Yuan Jue paused. A faint look of disappointment crossed over his face. With a cold and unhappy expression, he nodded. He turned around, lifted the animal skin curtain, and left the room. The hands that he was hiding from her sight trembled a bit.

Ruan Qiuqiu didn’t notice his strangeness. She touched her forehead. It was still higher than normal. Her fever hadn’t completely subsided.

After struggling to grab the little animal skin bag that she had hidden by the bed, Ruan Qiuqiu absorbed a bit of spiritual energy. It was only then that she was barely able to get up from the bed.

She took sips of the comfortably warm water, leaned over, put on her shoes, and used the rest of the water to clean herself. With sore hands, she casually tidied up her hair, draped the white animal skin over herself, and tottered out of bed.

The bedroom’s animal skin curtain had truly been remodeled. It had been densely stitched together with the little bison hide, was firmly embedded into the stone wall, and blocked most of the cold wind and light. It was just…

Ruan Qiuqiu’s gaze fell on a spot where the animal skin curtain came into contact with the stone wall. There were dried bloodstains. If she didn’t carefully look, she wouldn’t have noticed it.

Her heart softened and felt painful. Did his hands hurt a lot doing this yesterday?
