Chapter 241 - 239 Nuclear Briefcase, Making Headlines.

'The White House?'

Howard's eyes were as wide as brass bells, and his face was covered with shock.

"Isn't your speculation a bit too bold?"

Howard's eyebrows were twisted together, seemingly in disbelief.

"Use your brain. If you were Kang, what would you do?"

Luke shook the whisky in his glass and smiled, "Hiding in the first-place people would guess, or somewhere unexpected?"

"Uh …"

Howard pondered for a moment, pursed his lips, and thought carefully.

It seemed to make some sense!

He then agreed with Luke's statement.

Superman's guess wasn't completely impossible.

Logically, it made sense.

Kang the Conqueror liked the high status, with enough power to make things happen.

Therefore, everyone subconsciously thought that he would choose the Soviet Union.

The opposing camps, sufficient military strength to compete, far from Temple of the Three and Superman.

This was the perfect foothold!

After the end of World War II, the biggest winners were the rapidly rising Soviet Union and the United States, which gradually grew into recognized superpowers.

The red bear, which dominated the Siberian plains, and the bald eagle that always wanted to dominate the world.

The atmosphere of the Cold War, with swords drawn but no confrontation between them had been revealed.

Therefore, the person sitting in power in the Kremlin was likely to be the first choice for Kang the Conqueror.

So why couldn't the President in the White House be the second choice?

"But we went to the President's house not long ago. Did you notice anything unusual?"

Howard asked in a deep voice.

He thought it was a secret investigation of the White House, but he didn't expect the truth and characters involved. It was increasingly alarming.

"This is where I feel hesitant. Arguably, Kang's high-tech equipment couldn't fool Superman's senses, but I didn't notice anything wrong at that time."

Luke's voice sounded hesitant for a moment, then resumed its firmness.

"But it doesn't wash away the suspicion of the President's Chief of Staff, John Stillman, who started to contact the Vampire Council when we went to Paris."

"So, Kang may have taken the President hostage and took … his place."

As Howard spoke, his face was as heavy as lead.

If he continued to speculate, the seriousness of the matter would be beyond his imagination.

If all this were true, Luke's speculation would be the correct answer.

Then, the beginnings of World War III may no longer be just a cause for concern or joke for historians.

To know that the nuclear weapon's button of the United States was in the hands of the President, who could make bad decisions and destroy the world at any time…

Howard once heard that each President 'inherited' a black suitcase when the presidential transition happened.

It weighed about 18 kg and had a secure combination lock on it.

The surface was a titanium shell specially made by the Zero Halliburton Company- bulletproof, fall-proof, collision-proof, and of high quality.

The President was usually guarded by five special bodyguards on a 24-hour rotating basis, who wouldn't leave the President, even to go to the toilet, and were authorized to shoot any suspicious characters on the spot without prior warning.

Under heavy protection, except for the President himself, almost no one could get close to the suitcase randomly.

"Don't be so nervous, Howard. It hasn't come to that yet."

Luke calmed the other party's emotions. Launching a nuclear weapon and starting a new apocalyptic era shouldn't happen.

Kang was the type of player who raided with deep strategy, more inclined to silently develop a ripple, change history, and conquer the world.

"Who could guarantee that the time-traveling idiot wouldn't become a deranged lunatic!?"

Howard covered his forehead and spoke with anxiety.

He was an arms tycoon and didn't resist any kind of war.

But he didn't have the slightest interest in world destruction.

From Luke's mouth, he learned that the bastard who called himself 'the Conqueror', had a great love for ruining a timeline and moving on to the next one.

For him, a devastated world may be far more interesting than a normal, calm world.

"I've seen that suitcase. It's not literally a 'button'. Nuclear war isn't a game that could easily be started by pushing one button."

Luke pulled a smile out of his mouth. The so-called 'nuclear button' wasn't something like a nuclear bomb that went up in the air after the push of a button, resulting in a terrifying nuclear mushroom cloud.

If it were that simple, who could guarantee that the man wouldn't be a war madman in the presidency?

It wasn't wise to put the safety of the world on the shoulders of one person.

"Then what is it?"

Howard asked curiously.

The legendary nuclear briefcase itself had a layer of mystery.

"Four documents."

Luke simply said.

"One is a record of the number of nuclear weapons of the United States, their deployment locations, and their intended launch routes."

"The second is a confidential list of secret bases that the President could use in the event of war or emergency."

"The third is a wartime broadcasting program that allows for speeches to be given to the nation in the event of a bombing on our nation."

"The last one is the identification serial number, which is used to confirm the President's personal instructions."

"In addition, there's a secure private phone - a custom-made model produced by SkyNet - that provides direct access to the Pentagon's nuclear warfare center and Air Force commands."

Luke spilled the beans on the top secrets of the White House.

Howard was stunned to hear this, almost thinking that this Superman had been President before. Otherwise, how did he know?

"Where did you get your information?"

He held his question for a few seconds but couldn't resist.

"The suitcase is normally kept in the basement of the East Wing of the White House. Because the President was going out, it had to be carried by his entourage. I was curious at the time, so I looked through the contents."

Luke shrugged his shoulders and answered calmly.

The titanium casing couldn't block Superman's vision.

"As expected of Superman."

Howard gave a thumbs up and pulled his jacket tighter around his body as if he was worried about being naked.

"Only you would use this ability to look at other people's naked bodies."

When he saw this gesture, Luke showed his disgust instead.

"So, what are you going to do next?"

Howard coughed twice to cover up his embarrassment and changed the subject.

"Haven't thought about it yet."

Luke actually wanted to fly straight to the White House, kick down the door, and punch the President in his seat.

According to his belief, if he was 60% sure of something, he could just go ahead and do it, regardless of the consequences.

"Before I can do anything else, I need to confirm the President's identity."

Luke raised his eyebrows and whispered, "But I also think that Kang would probably figure this out and is prepared to deal with it."

"So, I'm going to make things a little more complicated and play this game with him."

Howard scratched his hair. In terms of force, he was very confident in Lieutenant General Superman.

Aryan Supermen, Namor, Sebastian Shaw … These people have proven Luke's strength with their own miserable fates.

Only this time, his opponent was a time-traveling fugitive from the future.

If they weren't careful enough, they might be capsized.

"I'm telling you these things to prevent any accidents for myself."

Luke's eyelids lowered, making it difficult to understand what he was really thinking.

"Don't tell anyone, especially Peggy. She can't help much, and this will only increase her worries."

Howard nodded his head to show his understanding.

Most of the time, he behaved like someone who couldn't be trusted.

But occasionally, he could be very reliable.

"The first step in this game starts with Nick Fury."

Luke put down his glass, already thinking of the right person to carry out the task.

"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s newest agent exposes the sordid collusion between the top brass of the White House and the Vampire Council, which will make for a great headline."
