Chapter 1289  Toned Down

Raelle also felt like she had been indulging a lot of people these days. She wasn't like this before. But now, she was almost unable to recognize her own self. She didn't mind this change much. She was just surprised by this change. So many people tried to change her over the years. She had seen Grandfather Xiang and Mu Chenyan's efforts but she didn't change all that much.

But in this last year, she just changed without knowing it.

This was something she realized way earlier but day by day, she came to feel the changes within her. Just like now, she didn't mind the extra chatty husband beside her. Neither did she really mind his clinginess, and super sticky talk. Even if she didn't take his cheeky comments seriously, she certainly came to enjoy them.

When they reached the main hall, Xiang Weimin was already sitting with Grandfather Xiang. Seeing them coming, Grandfather Xiang called her over, "Yenay, how do you like your residence?"

"It's nice," replied Raelle.

"You'd love it once you see it during the day," said Grandfather Xiang. "That was my favorite place. That's why when I was old enough to live alone, I did everything to make the south wing my own. Now, it's yours."

"Grandpa, is it okay for you to be so openly biased?" asked Xiang Weimin.

Grandfather Xiang gave him a look, "Grandson, it's not that I'm openly biased. The south wing was originally built for my grandaunt. She was the one who personally designed the whole place too. She was the youngest of the generation and she had said that the next owner of the south wing had to be the youngest daughter of the family. I had to do a lot to get that place and I got lucky since I was all alone in my generation."

"Oh," responded Xiang Weimin.

They all sat around the dining table for dinner and only then did Xiang Wai appeared like a storm.

"Grandpa! Grandpa! Grandpa!"

"Stop shouting so shrilly, Wai!" said Xiang Weimin.

"Ge, you don't love me anymore."

"I wish your comrades could see you like this. They might lose their mind seeing their always tough Major Wai acting like a white lotus."

"Whit lotus?" Xiang Wai scrunched up her nose unhappily. "I prefer being a black lotus though."

"Okay, stop it now," said Grandfather Xiang. "Tell me why are you looking for me, Wai?"

Xiang Wai immediately perked up, "Grandpa, are there many photos of Grandma here?"

"Why are you asking?"

"I wanna see," she told him. "Grandpa Jian told me so much and I want to know more. I never even knew that my Grandma was so fun."

Seeing how she kept chatting, Grandfather Xiang didn't interrupt at all but listened patiently and attentively. "I remember what my grandma said about her back then," said Grandfather Xiang.

"What did she say?" asked Xiang Wai curiously.

"She said if Wan was born in her era, she might have been a proper mountain bandit!"

"What?"

Grandfather Xiang smiled and nodded, "That's what she said. And she wasn't really wrong either. Wan was more like a bandit."

"No way."

"What? You don't believe it?" asked Grandfather Xiang.

"I really can't," said Xiang Wai. "That's not what Aunt Chenyan say about her. According to her, Grandma was a beautiful, elegant, and a kind lady."

"That's Chenyan's biased opinion. There is no one Chenyan loves more than Wan in this world. How could you take her biased opinion so subjectively?"

Xiang Wai went silent and took a while before asking, "So, Aunt Chenyan didn't know real Grandma too?"

"She did have some impression but as I said, there was a thick filter on Chenyan's eyes. So, she purposely chose to ignore a few things. Wai, your grandma raised a daughter like Mu Chenyan. Seeing her, what makes you think your grandma would have been any different or normal? Even if Chenyan doesn't realize, a lot of her bad habits come from her godmother. And that's why she always made Wan go crazy because she didn't want to raise a daughter like her own self. Because it only made her realize how difficult she had been to her parents growing up."

"I have no words right now," said Xiang Wai and picked up a glass of water to drink. She processed what she heard and then asked, "So, the real Grandma was really as Grandpa Jian said. Bold, reckless, wild, and a unrestrained?"

"She was more than that. She was domineering like no other. She had a young miss temper because of growing up in a honey pot. She did not like setbacks but once she faced them, she became even more stubborn about winning. Tell me, does it remind you of someone?"

Xiang Wai paused before replying, "Aunt Chenyan."

"Indeed," replied Grandfather Xiang. "Wan toned down her temper only after your father was born. She restrained herself and slowly started changing. Maybe because we lived in the military compound after that and she had to socialize with all kinds of military wives, she became more articulate and trickier. She had a very straight temper when we first met. If she liked it, she liked it. If she didn't like it, she'll let you know she doesn't like it. I think it's because she was a military wife that she had to change her temper so that she doesn't hold me back."

"Love is poisonous!"

All of them were surprised to hear that voice and looked towards the door. Seeing Hyson standing there with a tired look on his face, they were all shocked. "Fai, you!" Grandfather Xiang didn't know what to say when he suddenly saw Hyson here. He thought Hyson would come tomorrow with the rest of the people. "How did you come?"

Hyson dropped his backpack down and sat down on the dining table saying, "I am an angel, I come with wings."

Xiang Wai snickered, Xiang Weimin pursed his lips and Raelle was even more straightforward and knocked on his

head unceremonically.
