Chapter 1357 Three Birds, One Stone
"That's just how most humans are," said Cloe. "You're the weird one here. Most humans are never satisfied in life."
"And you think I am?" asked Raelle.
"You seem like you are," was Cloe's response. "Or maybe I should say that you just accept whatever life throws at you rather than questioning it like most people do. I have never seen you blaming fate."
"When a person focuses on the plate right in front of his eyes rather than the pot placed in the middle of the table, everything becomes easier to accept in life."
"I don't understand."
"It means focus on what you have rather than what you can have. In the process of focusing on what we could have, what we have loses its brightness and value too. Don't you agree?"
Cloe nodded her head in agreement, "I do agree with this. Thanks for the reminder though." She took a pause to observe Raelle's face before asking, "So?"
"So what?"
"Aren't you curious about how I did it and when did I do it?" added Cloe.
"I told you earlier, that I am not interested enough in the details. The final result is that you have the ring on your finger. I guess we don't need to know more than that."
Cloe sighed heavily when she heard Raelle's response. "You are really... Forget it! I don't think it'd do me any good to even share it with you because you'd be lacking the reactions I'm looking for. Anyway, considering that you are a special friend I wanted you to know that I got a yes. Since you know now, that's enough."
"That's what I thought so," said Raelle.
"You know normally a friend would suggest celebrating something so huge."
"Ah! Good thing that I'm not normal," was Raelle's reply which made Cloe's lips twitch and she almost rolled her eyes right there and then but held herself back.
"How about I take you out to celebrate? I don't have anyone else to share it with. I'll be the one paying, okay?" suggested Cloe.
"You and I both know that I'm only stingy with compliments. I am never stingy with money. It's not about who is paying. It's about the fact that I have no desire to go out to celebrate."
"Why?!" Cloe almost went up to hold her shoulders and shake her violently when she asked that. "Sometimes, you should be a good sport!"
"I should be but I've been having too many family dinners. Too much trouble. I am tired of it all. So, I don't wanna do it now."
"We can do something else other than going for a meal," suggested Cloe.
"For instance?" asked Raelle seemingly interested in this suggestion.
"How about going to the escape room? Or arcade? Or we can play some tennis?"
"That's your idea of celebrating?" "What else? It's not like you are gonna agree to go to a nightclub with me," said Cloe.
"Yeah, that's definitely a no but what made you think I'd be up for tennis?"
"Right, you are not a physical sports person. How did I forget that?" Cloe knocked on her head as if reprimanding herself for forgetting something so important. "It's difficult to look for activities that one can do with you. You won't go to movies, you won't agree with nightclub and even you did go to the nightclub, you won't be dancing. What's the point then? You won't agree for night market randevouze and you also won't play sports. What is one supposed to do with you? Can we go sky diving?"
"No, seems rather pointless thing to do," said Raelle.
"Oh my gosh! You're making my blood pressure rise with you constant no! Your whole existence should have a big NO on it at this rate!"
"You lost your cool rather soon," said Raelle.
Cloe took a deep breath knowing that she really lost her cool but who could blame her for that too. No matter how she had cultivated her patience, she was really frustrated by Raelle right now. It's been a long time she found Raelle so troublesome and annoying. And here she thought things were changing. How could she be so naive to even expect that this devil could change? "If you kept this up, my excitement is gonna in vain and I'd no longer feel the need to even celebrate and I do perfectly know that's your intention too. But guess what? I'm not giving up! I deserve this after giving my loyalty and company to you for so long. The least you can do is to share my joy and sorrows with me. You have always been there to make me feel less lonely in my sorrows, why are you so difficult when it comes to my joy?"
"Because I really think you should look for someone else," said Raelle. "Isn't it better to find someone who can have fun with you rather to catering to my likes and dislikes and my whims? Anyone would know what is the better choice. How come it's so difficult for you right now?"
"Because what I want is you and not someone else," was Cloe's response. "Do you understand what I mean? No one else can take your place. There is no other Raelle Xiang."
"That's for sure," agreed Raelle. "There is only one masterpiece like me. Quite an anomaly too."
Cloe wanted to rub her face but thinking about her make up, she held back her hand and only patted her jacket as if she was dusting off something from it. "Can you find a better time to be self-centred. We are talking serious things here."
Raelle fixed her watch on her wrist before looking into her eyes, "Okay, I'll stop annoying you now. Let's be serious. Go and find that sister of mine to know when she is gonna be done with her proposal. If she has a yes too, we can add her into the mix and celebrate it together because I don't wanna waste my time twice on the same thing. Oh wait! I think we can add that stupid bacheloratte party you all have in mind into the mix too. That way, we'd be hitting three birds with one stone."
