Chapter 821 The Elderly Man’s Odd Illness

According to Leanna’s guidance, Matthew found the village in no time. The village was hidden in the woods, and it looked a little run down.

Just like what Leanna had claimed, there weren’t many people who stayed in the village, and those who did were mainly senior citizens. Most of the youngsters had already left to work in the city, and the children had gone to school. Only the elderly people continued staying in the remote village, reluctant to leave due to nostalgia.

No one really paid any attention to Matthew when he entered the village. They likely assumed that he was one of the elites who lived in one of the mansions nearby, seeing how there were a few manors surrounding the village. Hence, the villagers here would often see rich people coming over to tour around, and they were already used to it.

As Matthew walked around, he started observing the people here. Suddenly, his gaze fixated on an elderly man, and he quickly approached him before greeting with a low voice, “Hello, sir.”

The elderly man looked confused. “D-Do you need anything?”

Matthew chuckled a little before he asked, “Have you noticed that your appetite has increased recently?”

Immediately, the elderly man looked shocked. “H-How do you know that? I used to only be able to finish half a portion of my meal, but I can finish the entire thing now. Sometimes, that wouldn’t even be enough for me.”

Matthew nodded. “What about your body? Do you feel even more tired even after eating so much?”

The elderly man’s eyes widened. “How do you know that? By right, my body condition should have improved as my appetite increased, but… I started feeling more fatigued. I was just wondering if I should

go to the hospital to check if I’m alright. By the way… Are you a doctor?”

He gave Matthew a hopeful look and the latter chuckled lightly. “That’s right. I’m a doctor, and I can tell that something’s wrong with your body.”

Right then, the elderly man looked delighted. “I-Is it possible for you to take a look at my condition? I-I don’t have any serious illnesses, do I?”

“It’s not a serious illness, but I have to ask you something. Have you seen this kind of plant around this place?” Matthew asked before he took a paper out with a drawing of an odd-looking plant.

There were three leaves on the plant, and two of the leaves were jagged, while another leaf was roundish in shape. All three leaves together had no sense of congruity and looked like it wasn’t a plant from planet Earth at all.

After staring at the paper, the elderly man pondered for a moment. “Hmm, I… I have actually seen these plants. Back then, I thought they looked weird, so I plucked one of them and wanted to show it to the others. However, the plant disappeared somehow when I got home!”

Immediately, Matthew questioned, “Where did you see it?”

After thinking for a while, the elderly man pointed at the mountain and answered, “There are two lands behind the mountain that belong to me, and I saw these plants in the ditch below the lands. Sir, is this plant related to my illness?”

Still, Matthew smiled before explaining, “Not really. Your illness isn’t severe after all. I’ll prescribe medicines for you, and you’ll recover after taking them. You’ll at most have to take two trips to the washroom.”

Then, he wrote something down on a piece of paper before giving it to the elderly man, while the elderly man looked thrilled and thanked him profusely. Nevertheless, Matthew didn’t stay there for long and quickly headed to the back of the mountain. Yet, his frown deepened upon reaching the lands that the elderly man talked about.

Matthew jumped down to the ditch beneath the lands, and there were weeds growing all over the shady place. By right, there should be animals and insects such as snakes, rats, and ants at places like this. However, Matthew couldn’t even find an ant at this odd place. It’s as if everything in this place is dead!
