Chapter 139: The Hazy Morning Part 2

Not only Han Chen and Su Mian are here, but Xu Si Bai is here today as well. According to the orders from head office, if anything out of the ordinary happens, every related personnel will be on standby for 24 hours. Therefore, although there haven’t been any reports of anyone being hurt, the Forensic Investigator has come by car as well.

But right now, he and a couple of officers are staying in the command vehicle. He greets Han Chen and Su Mian from afar only. Han Chen, as usual, treats him like any other colleague; he doesn’t show friendliness or dislike toward him and simply stays away and unapproachable. Su Mian doesn’t take the initiative to go and chat with Xu Si Bai either.

She doesn’t know what to say to him.

This newly developed commercial area looks modern and splendid. This is where the Han River and Yangtze River intersect, creating a lush peninsula. There’s only one cross river bridge that connects it to the downtown core of City Lan. Apparently, the underground tunnel and subway are in construction and will be available for use soon; it will be much more convenient then. The shopping center is developed by the nationally known Huayan Group with the most extravagant Peninsula Century Hotel at its core, surrounded by stores of various heights and pedestrian streets. According to various sources, the underground levels were supposed to open in phase 2 of its construction, but due to some reason, it’s been delayed. Otherwise, this shopping center would be even more crowded.

The ground level at its phase 1 launch is already this busy after just a few days. It’s really incredible.

Although Han Chen says they should head back, Su Mian’s eyes can’t help but look at the different store signs and dazzling window displays. She hears him say indifferently, “You want to go shopping this badly? Your eyes are about to fall out.”

Su Mian didn’t think that he would notice. She sighs and answers, “Is it that obvious?”

Han Chen stares at her bright and fair white side profile in the sun and doesn’t respond.

It’s more than obvious. Although she’s following him to the car, her body is swaying left and right constantly as if……she’s reluctant to leave? Those shimmering dark brown eyes are also fixed to the street. She absolutely looks like……a pitiful little puppy.

A big beauty like her is being so pitiful and cute just for something so minor. Blood rushes into the man’s chest; what should he do about her?

Han Chen smiles as he thinks about this. But he hears her speak in a serious tone of voice, “Looking at the flourishing area from across the sh.ore, yet the criminal investigator’s heart is at the other end of the world.” She turns around and looks at him, “I’m not going shopping now for the sake of making sure that they can shop safely and happily! But of course, after the case is over, I want to spend all my money until my pockets are empty! Hmph! Hmph!….. Now that I think about it, I haven’t spent much of my pay for several months. There is so much money!”

She blabbers to herself. Han Chen watches her become high-spirited again and loses himself.

Looking at the flourishing area from across the sh.ore, yet my heart is at the other end of the world.

This woman will say a random phrase every now and then, but they seem to always touch his heart. He knows that she is just like him; the thing in their hearts has always been the same. After a brief moment, he disregards the crowd around him and pulls her into his embrace.

Su Mian looks up at him dumbstruck: what?

Su Mian looks up at him dumbstruck: what?

In the winter blue sky, Han Chen’s face seems as if it has been lightly glazed with frost and snow; it’s fair white and chiseled. He looks down at her. His pupils are deep black and carry a hint of a smile.

“Once this case is over. Let’s quit as officers,” he says calmly, “I’ll accompany you to anywhere in the world.”

Su Mian is a bit stunned.

“……Okay,” she smiles slowly. Her eyes shift around as she starts to imagine the possibilities, “Didn’t you say that you want to go teach in the future? You go teach about criminal investigation and I’ll go teach criminal psychology. Hehheh, who knows if I’ll be a bad influence. We can go have fun for a few years first and then come back to the police school to teach.”

“Okay,” Han Chen answers with one word only and then holds her hand. They’re both wearing black gloves. But even through the layers of fabric, Su Mian can feel the energy coming from his palm.

The future is painted with so much freedom and wonderful colors. No matter how noisy and unsafe the surroundings are, Su Mian’s heart seems to have calmed down and is wandering unhurriedly. She really, really wants to follow him and leave like this. To the ends of the Earth with just the two of them, just like the Condor Heroes; they can finally be together every day and night, and every month and year.

But just when the feeling of sentimental romance surges in Su Mian’s heart, she immediately realizes another big problem. She says frowning, “This won’t do. If we leave, what are the three of them going to do?”

Chatterbox, Cold Face, and Xiao Zhuan.

Various images of she and Han Chen turning around and leaving carefreely not taking anything with them floats into Su Mian’s mind. And Cold Face would probably stand to watch quietly saying, “Take care,” before going back to work at the Black Shield Team.

Chatterbox would probably blabber non-stop walking them all the way out of the station and to their car. In the end, he’ll be emotional and won’t be able to stand the pain of parting and will start to say a bunch of nonsense as he bids farewell sobbing.

As for Xiao Zhuan……

Su Mian shakes her head helplessly. He would definitely cling onto her and Han Chen’s legs and not let them leave. He would pack his bags and say, “Take me with you then!”

Su Mian bursts out laughing thinking about it. She looks up at Han Chen and says, “If we really leave, the three of them will be like pitiful puppies.”

Han Chen smiles. He puts more pressure on his arms and hugs her tighter while answering, “I’ll listen to you then. If you want to leave, we’ll leave. If you miss them, we can come back whenever you feel like it.”

Su Mian is very satisfied with this compromise as she nods vigorously. She stares into his unruly yet beautiful eyes and then turns her head to make sure no one else is watching as her heart beats out of control. She then stands on her tiptoes, tilts her head up and pecks on the side of his cheek.

They’re standing in a quiet area of the street so there isn’t anyone else here. And Han Chen is someone who likes to act on his own. He’s leaning against the police car right now with his hands on her waist while letting her kiss him like a kitty. A faint smile brushes across his eyes. He raises his head and watches the crowd of people not far away from them.

Surrounded by high-rise buildings, the sunlight penetrates the shopping center and it’s filled with people. The brand-name shops on the streets are playing moderate tempo music. People come and go; someone is strolling and someone is holding a bunch of balloons as they walk in the crowd.

And then, those balloons are released. Han Chen stares at them without blinking. There’s a red, blue, yellow, green……a total of seven balloons rising slowly into the sky. They float above other people’s heads; they float in the sunlight and are rather eye-catching.

A breeze blows toward them and makes them turn slowly. It gradually reveals the letters printed on the back of them:

T, S, R, A, E, L, K.

Han Chen is still hugging onto Su Mian. His eyes pause on the balloons only for a split second before he quickly looks away to the building behind it.

It’s the tallest building of the peninsula with sixty or so stories high. It’s the Century Hotel. Behind the window of a certain room on a certain floor, a man with a tall and slender figure is wearing a colorful clown wardrobe. His face his blurry behind the window, but he seems to be watching them and smiling.
