Chapter 621: Leviathan? Orochi? They’re just cowards!!
While Asmodeus panicked, the two colossal monsters advanced toward the core of his abyssal realm, where his castle lay. All of Asmodeus's armies and defensive measures were either useless or already destroyed, leaving nothing to hinder the two beasts' relentless approach.
Many high-rise buildings had collapsed, and the coliseum where the denizens of the abyss reveled in bloody sport lay in ruins, crushed by tsunamis from the blood sea. Agonized cries and furious roars from demonic beings echoed across the vast expanse of the abyssal landscape.
Of the surviving demons, most were low-ranking, while more powerful beings, like pit fiends and archfiends, attempted to retaliate. Yet, they were obliterated almost instantly by divine thunder striking down from the heavens. Seeing powerful demons fall one after another, more and more demons began fleeing toward Asmodeus's castle, clinging to the hope that their king would repel these two colossal beasts.
The devastation continued, pushing relentlessly toward Asmodeus's castle. Within half an hour, the beasts arrived—one hovering in the sky, hurling calamity thunder around the castle, while the other swam in the blood sea that had now engulfed the area surrounding the fortress.
"Asmodeus! Get out here!" Envy bellowed, her voice booming through a spell of amplification.
Inside the castle's secure vault, Asmodeus halted his ritual to teleport himself to Earth.
Yes, it was impossible for any Hell Lord to enter the mortal realm in their true form without the Hell Gate being opened from the other side. However, anyone could go to Earth if they limited their power sufficiently, making themselves no more powerful than a low-ranking demon that any powerful mage could summon on a whim.
Alternatively, they could forcibly possess an unfortunate mortal cursed from birth with a link to the abyssal realm, this kind of mortal will serve like a small back door toward the mortal realm, the more powerful this mortal os, the more power he can carry with him, It's like a kind of door, the larger the door is, the more things he could carry with him..
Asmodeus chose a forceful method, planning to invade such an unlucky mortal to escape. Though his power would be severely limited, it was far better than dying here. He was in the middle of scrying to find a suitable host, he doesn't want to be as powerless as an imp so it's vital for him to do this.
"Huh?" Asmodeus turned in the direction of the voice. Isn't that the Witch of Envy? he thought, then waved his hand toward the observation orb outside the castle. Through it, he saw two beautiful women atop the heads of Leviathan and Orochi. One was indeed the Witch of Envy, who had absorbed all of Leviathan's power, making her a pseudo Hell Lord.
The other woman radiated intense divine power; it felt like he was staring directly into the sun. When he scrutinized the Orochi beneath her, he realized it wasn't the true Orochi but rather a supercharged mana construct infused with divine energy.
Despite being a construct, the Orochi's divine calamity thunder was potent enough to kill him within a few strikes if he let down his guard.
Steeling himself, Asmodeus changed into his regal attire—a red mantle and suit worthy of a Hell Lord. His clothes, enchanted to exude a noble air and subtle charm, were intended to improve his chances in negotiation.
He teleported out of the secure room, landing with grace before the two colossal beasts, then shouted boldly, "Witch of Envy! I've come to bargain!"
Boom!
The instant Asmodeus's voice rang out, a bolt of hellish thunder-fire struck him, charring his clothing and singeing his hair until he no longer resembled the dignified Hell Lord.
"Why!?" Asmodeus roared at Envy in anger.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
This time, both calamity thunder and hellish thunder-fire struck him in rapid succession. Though each strike had been limited in power to merely shock and injure, Asmodeus still felt the sting of every zap.
After several more strikes, the two women seemed to have vented enough of their anger and frustration. They looked down at Asmodeus, who was now faking death, lying face-down like a curled shrimp in the middle of a crater—eerily reminiscent of a certain long-haired martial artist with a cross-shaped scar on his cheek, who once became overly cocky and got blasted by a living bomb.
"Asmodeus," Envy called out to the Hell Lord, her voice icy. "I know you're not dead, so drop the act with that pathetic performance. But if you really want to die, we can always increase the power of—"
"Yes, yes, I hear you, darlin. I was just taking a little rest—no need to get so aggressive! For hell's sake! We're all civilized people" Asmodeus interrupted, standing up in his trademark pose, looking every bit the narcissistic fool.
"Take back your blessing from Daniel Emberweave, my husband," Envy commanded.
"Huh? Daniel Emberweave is your husband? Are you sure? Wasn't your husband Merlin of Camelot? Huh? Mor—"
Boom!
Before he could finish, a spear-shaped thunderfire struck him, pinning his body to the ground, the intense flames scorching him as he howled in pain.
Koyuki glanced at Envy, a bit taken aback, noticing the cold fury in her gaze. Whatever Asmodeus had been about to say had clearly struck a nerve, and now it was backfiring on him in the worst way.
"Okay! Okay! I'll take it back! I'll take it back!" Asmodeus gritted his teeth and snapped his fingers, retracting the blessing he had bestowed upon Daniel.
In Envy's eyes, she could see a fiery red-and-black energy streaming through the veil and returning into Asmodeus's body, confirming to her that he had indeed reclaimed his blessing from Daniel.
"Let's go back," Envy said to Koyuki, who had been waiting for her signal. Envy dispelled her power manifestation and joined Koyuki atop Orochi's head. Together, the two rose into the sky of the Abyssal realm toward the gateway Envy had opened for their exit.
"Wait! Wait! Gah! Take this damn spear back too! It hurts!" Asmodeus shouted, pointing to the massive thunderfire spear of mana construct that pinned him to the ground.
"Stay like that for a few days as punishment—it'll disappear on its own," Envy replied, before ascending to the mortal realm through the gate. Koyuki followed, dispelling her Orochi mana construct as they left.
The moment the gate closed, severing the connection between the mortal and abyssal realms, Asmodeus roared into the sky.
"Damn witch! If you dare, come back and fight! Don't be a coward!" he sneered, spitting onto the ground as the spear remained lodged in his chest, pinning him there.
By this time, the survivors who had been hiding and waiting for the battle to end emerged and overheard their lord's outburst.
"Ooooohhh! Our lord is so powerful! He drove those two monsters back! Ooooooohhhh!" they cheered as they saw the two beasts vanish through the portal in the sky.
The foolish denizens had no clue what had actually transpired at the top of the castle. They only saw Asmodeus descend from the sky, heard the thunderous booms, and then they retreated to find shelter hiding until the battle ended, then… They witnessed the monsters fleeing. To them, it was clear: their lord had saved them.
Hearing the cheers, Asmodeus's face paled. [Those idiots think I repelled those two murder-hobos?! No! I can't let them come up here, or I won't know where to hide my face! My prestige is on the line here!]
"My Lord, please descend! We will escort you and prepare a new castle far from here!" one of the archfiends shouted with fervent loyalty.
"No! I'll stand guard here for a few more days in case they return! Withdraw from this place and don't come near the castle—where I stand is filled with wild curses and lingering holy magic. You'd all die if you came too close!" Asmodeus declared with feigned righteousness.
"Oh, my lord! Let us stay with you! We archfiends can endure a bit of holy power!" a few archfiends cried, eager to join him, but Asmodeus stopped them immediately.
"Idiots! Do not come up here! That's an order!" Asmodeus roared.
"But why, my lord? Why can't we stand guard with you? Are we so weak in your eyes?" one of the archfiends asked, confused.
[Of course you can't come up here, you idiots! If you saw me like this, you'd realize how pathetic I look! Just listen and get lost already!] Asmodeus thought, growing increasingly irritated.
"No! Quite the opposite! I need you all to fall back and establish a secondary defensive perimeter in case they return. That way, we'll have a fallback base—and a place where I can retreat!" Asmodeus replied with bold, righteous zeal.
"My lord!" The archfiends were deeply moved, feeling as if they could cry if only they had the ability. They saluted Asmodeus with renewed devotion, then dispersed to set up the secondary perimeter.
"See? Our lord is unmatched! He even repelled those two monsters!" one demon said in awe.
"Leviathan? Orochi? They're just cowards! They didn't dare face our lord one-on-one and relied on numbers. Even then, they were driven back, tails tucked between their legs! Haha!"
