Chapter 145: Chapter 145 A Useless Person
“I’ve lived in this family for over a decade, that’s true, but I never felt like you considered me your daughter.”
“Our so-called father-daughter relationship has never existed.”
“When I was little, whatever toy your son wanted, you bought it for him. But when it came to the toys I wanted, you said you wouldn’t buy me anything.”
“Even if my mom bought me the doll I wanted, you’d complain it was a waste of money.”
“Each year, you’d take your son on vacation, but there was never a spot for me and my mom.”
“You spent money to send your son to the best schools, to various tutoring classes; with my education, you couldn’t have cared less.”
“I went to a regular public school, and I got into college all through my own efforts.”
“No matter what I did, it was never good enough for you. If I made any small mistake, you’d scold me.”
“But if your son did anything wrong, you’d just say it was okay, ‘Just be careful next time.’”
“Every time he and I had an argument, right or wrong, you always sided with him and scolded me.”
“As I got older, I was just a tool for you to climb the social ladder of the wealthy, forcing me to break up with Xu Yang is proof of that.”
“Although my mom harbored similar intentions, she at least cared about my life and my studies when I was younger.”
“What have you done for me? And now you talk to me about father-daughter affection, don’t you find it laughable?”
Zhao Yulu let out all the frustrations that had been pent up over the years in one go.
Yang Tiancheng was left speechless by her words.
Reflecting on the past decade and more, his treatment of Zhao Yulu was indeed as she described.
Zhao Yulu cared. She just never showed it until now.
Now that she was about to leave this house for good, there were no more concerns holding her back.
“Zhao Yulu, even so, you were raised on the Yang family’s food, what’s wrong with asking you to do a few things?”
Yang Tiancheng didn’t say a word, but Yang Jingsheng started to holler.
“A loser, don’t talk to me!” Zhao Yulu glanced disdainfully at Yang Jingsheng.
This Yang Jingsheng, despite attending the best schools, possessed neither the skills nor the quality—in fact, they were dismal.
“You…” Yang Jingsheng’s face turned ashen with rage, and he looked as though he was about to burst and attack her.
The label ‘loser’ was usually something he called others, no one had ever used it on him before.
Zhao Yulu using it on him was particularly grating to his ears.
“Don’t be rash,” Yang Tiancheng held back his son, “in this situation, if you hit her, she definitely won’t let it go easily, and you could very well end up detained again.”
Liu Yujuan said with a sneer, “Yang Tiancheng, look at your son. You’ve given him such good conditions, yet you still couldn’t raise him right, but the daughter you disregarded, Yu Lu, is a hundred times better than your son.”
Yang Jingsheng yelled furiously, “Liu Yujuan, you lowly woman, you have no place to speak here!”
Liu Yujuan waved her hand dismissively, “Alright, I’ll say no more. Whatever happens between you and your father has nothing to do with me and my daughter anymore. Yu Lu, let’s go. We’ll stay in a hotel for now and look for a house in the next few days.”
With that, the mother-daughter pair dragged their luggage and left.
As the door closed, Yang Jingsheng exploded into a rage, “Dad, just letting them go like that, is letting them off too easy!”
Yang Tiancheng glanced at his son, “If we don’t let them go, what else can we do?”
Yang Jingsheng didn’t know how to answer. In fact, he also didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t hit her, and scolding her didn’t make any difference to them.
So he shifted the subject, “Dad, do we really have to give Liu Yujuan half of our assets?”
Yang Tiancheng replied bitterly, “Pretty much, that’s what the law stipulates. What else can we do if we don’t divide it?”
Yang Jingsheng said, “I saw on TV, some people engage in property transfers. Can’t you do a property transfer?”
Yang Tiancheng replied with the same bitterness, “It’s impossible to transfer now. They would find out. Whatever has to be divided must be divided, not a penny less.”
Yang Jingsheng couldn’t help but curse, “This despicable woman, utterly abhorrent, and that Zhao Yulu is just the same, turning her back on us like that!”
Turning her back was the least of it; what really got to him was Zhao Yulu calling him useless. He simply couldn’t bear it.
If it weren’t for his dad holding him back, he really would have given Zhao Yulu a beating.
“Ah, it’s all my fault. I didn’t care for her enough ordinarily. I always put all my energy into you and neglected her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have done this, wouldn’t have said such ruthless words,” Yang Tiancheng sighed.
He knew that he was to blame for this issue.
Zhao Yulu had never really received much care from him since she was a child, so it was no wonder she harbored such resentment and swiftly cut off their father-daughter relationship.
“Dad, how can you blame yourself? If you provided her food and raised her, that’s already a great blessing for her. She should be grateful, not so heartlessly severing the father-daughter relationship,” Yang Jingsheng was still indignant.
“Let’s not talk about this anymore,” Yang Tiancheng waved his hand and sighed again, “When it comes down to it, all these changes are because of Xu Yang.”
“If it weren’t for Xu Yang, there wouldn’t be any Riverbed Lure. I wouldn’t have ended up like this, Zhao Hai wouldn’t have become the General Manager of Riverbed Lure, and Liu Yujuan wouldn’t have filed for divorce.”
“If we hadn’t forced Zhao Yulu to break up with Xu Yang back then, it would have been better. With Xu Yang’s character, he certainly would have treated us well. I would have been the General Manager of Riverbed Lure, and Zhao Hai wouldn’t have even been considered.”
Thinking about this matter again made him regret it deeply.
If Zhao Yulu had continued her relationship with Xu Yang, he wouldn’t have cared about being the Deputy General Manager of Meiwei Group; he would have been the General Manager of Riverbed Lure directly.
With a son-in-law like Xu Yang, life would have been incredibly enjoyable.
He would have had both status and wealth.
Even if his son lacked ability, he could have secured a good position in Xu Yang’s company and would have had nothing to worry about for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately, all of that vanished with Zhao Yulu breaking up with Xu Yang.
Now, he could only watch helplessly as his arch-enemy Zhao Hai prospered at Riverbed Lure, calling the shots in the business world.
“Xu Yang is just too lucky. Who would have thought he could reach where he is now?” Yang Jingsheng was very envious of the success Xu Yang had achieved.
Whether it was making money through futures investment, scoring big on antiques, earning money from acquiring Fengcai Guild, renaming Fishfire Folks to Riverbed Lure and profiting from it, or investing in the movie ‘War Panther’ and making a fortune—each of these was beyond his reach.
Back when dad was the Deputy General Manager of the catering group and Xu Yang hadn’t made it yet, he could look down on Xu Yang.
But now, it was Xu Yang’s turn to look down on him.
What the fuck, where’s the justice in that?
“It’s not luck; it’s capability. Relying solely on luck would never have gotten him this far,” said Yang Tiancheng, shaking his head.
“Let’s not talk about him anymore.” Yang Jingsheng, feeling more irritated the more he spoke of Xu Yang, decided to change the topic, “Dad, you’ve resigned from the company now, what are you planning to do next?”
Yang Tiancheng responded, “What else can I do but look for a job?”
Yang Jingsheng then asked, “Can you still find a high-level position?”
