Chapter 257 Aftermath
Chapter 257 Aftermath
?
The aftermath of the demon invasion left the once-magnificent royal capital, the Gem of the Ice Kingdom, in much destruction, but in Alex's eyes, it was much better than what he remembered from his previous life.
The sparkling snow that once adorned the city now bore the stains of blood, while many sections of the city, especially the residential area, were now reduced to rubble and debris, their grandeur replaced by the grim reality of invasion.
The capital city Quivira experienced a similar fate with demons using the human slaves to create disturbance and distrust and invading through a portal that appeared in the city's center.
But the city experienced much less destruction because the demons invading it were much less in number and strength and also struggled to do any significant damage because of the presence of Ravenglades Guild members.
The Ravenglades Guild members clashed with the invading demons head-on, and with very few human traitors creating chaos among the Rank of higher-ups, they were able to quickly join the players in battle.
While minutes into the chaos, the guardian of the Gold Kingdom appeared and started slaughtering demons like chickens.
Alex was a bit surprised knowing the guardian arrived this early because it took close to an hour before he appeared in his last life, but after some thinking, he realized the reason for his early appearance was most likely thanks to his intervention.
In Alex's previous life, the two Elemental Rulers took some time before they arrived at the capital city simply because of the delay in information which meant the old man was free to engage with the gold kingdom guardian and even help escape a majority of demons to safety.
This time, however, not a single demon invading the capital city of Quivira survived, with every last of the invading demon getting slaughtered, making the city experience even fewer casualties than the capital city Siniawis.
The capital city Siniawis was invaded by a higher number of demons compared to Quivira, but just like in Alex's previous life, demons were slaughtered by the members of the White Death Army, numbering a few thousand.
The total casualties the three human kingdoms suffered numbered close to two million, with demons suffering a similar number of deaths, and the news of these events had stretched far and wide.
The Human Empire and three kingdoms were doing their best to paint a picture that the demon portals were closed and a majority of the remaining demons had been killed.
But the rumors were spreading faster than they could control, making the whole human continent plunge into a state of restlessness as everyone feared demons appearing in the heart of their cities and starting a massacre.
The Human Empire and the three kingdoms were also in a state of turmoil as they feared more demon portals appearing, making them regroup their armies while they used every available method to them to get information from the captured demons.
Alex knew that it would take two days for the higher-ups to extract information from the demons and a month of further time to eliminate all the false information.
The demon knew many of them would get captured alive, so they had intentionally given false information among their ranks so the information the humans would gather would range from a full-scale invasion to just a failed invasion with no new demon arriving.
The truth was that no new demons would be arriving, or that was what happened in Alex's previous life, with the remaining demon separating into smaller groups and spreading to various hidden locations inside the dark barrier.
The demons will not be sitting silently for the month, as after two days of silence, they will start attacking various smaller towns and remote cities, massacring their residents in turn, creating more mass panic.
The Human Empire will find itself lacking sufficient forces to safeguard the numerous towns and cities, leading them to initiate evacuations of multiple settlements and entrust the protection of various locations to various player guilds.
As the teleportation center were back up and working, thousands of craftsmen, artisans, and talented magician experienced in building arrived and started repairing the city back to its former beauty.
Alex was mentally tired after having continuously engaged in battles for the past few days, as even before he joined the battle against the demons, he was hunting creatures in the underground sand city.
Alex left the ancient world and, after getting a cold shower, went to sleep, a rare thing in his schedule for the past few weeks.
---------------------
In a dark, gloomy place, Wrathahr, the demon commander, kneeled before a dark mirror that showed the back of a man standing in an open area looking toward the sky with a beautiful full moon shining like a gem in the starry sky.
"Wrathahr, I always wonder what it would feel like to be free, see what this world has to offer," The man spoke as he turned around and looked toward the kneeling demon.
"Great Demon Duke, The King will grant us our freedom," Wrathahr spoke, his head staying down.
"One Day, We will have our freedom,"
"So, how did the execution of the plan unfold?" The man said, after staying silent for a few minutes.
"There were some unforeseen circumstances, making my brother suffer more losses than I wanted, and it also resulted in us not achieving some of our side goals,"
"But the main plan went as our king had wanted."
"We were successful in killing and replacing almost half the Noble and authoritative targets we wanted with Veilshapers, and most importantly, we successfully created enough chaos for the Chaos Heart to come to life,"
"In two more days, we will start slaughtering more of the humans, drowning the human continent in negative emotions, feeding the Chaos Heart, and in one month at longest, the Chaos Heart will be completely ready to revive the Chaos Spawn," Wrathahr said, and instantly a magic container appeared before him.
The cylindrical glass-like container reached six feet in height, with runes shimmering with energy covering every inch of its surface, appearing and vanishing every few seconds.
Inside the container floated a small black substance that moved like a beating heart oozing with darkness, and it was bound inside another ethereal container made purely from runes.
"All of this is fine, but it all means nothing if you fail to find the target and achieve your mission,"
"After locating the target, make sure no mistakes are made and achieve what you are told no matter the cost because you will only have one chance," The man said, and the mirror returned to its calm pitch darkness.
Wrathahr disappeared from the dark room and appeared in an underground expanse, somewhere unknown, with a ceiling hundreds of meters high, and before him was a sight of dread for the humans.
Thousands of tents stretched out as far as the eye could see, with hundreds of thousands of demons roaming the place.
Above, flying warships hung suspended in the air, and ground pulse cannons were stationed strategically, while in the distance, two demon fortresses floated ominously.
The demon in this place numbered millions, and even the war weaponry was much greater than what the demons had utilized in their previous clashes.
The demons were prepared to drown the human continent in terror for the months to come while having unknown plans for Alex.
