Chapter 273 [BONUS] Going Home Together 2
BONUS 2/2
----
Evie felt an oppressive air around Ren. Peeking under her lashes, she saw the murderous glint in Ren's eyes, and she wondered if Roni had killed his pet or something. It seemed that whoever Roni was, Ren wasn't on good terms with him.
Though Roni didn't sense anything wrong and the smile on his face widened when they locked eyes.
The suffocating air around Ren became unbearable, and before the situation could worsen, Evie opened her mouth to say her name.
"No need," Ren said, face serious with an edge to the tone of his voice. "Just state what you need. We're in a hurry."
It was only when Roni pulled his sticky gaze away from Evie and said, "Ah. Right. Thanks for that tip. We got Sharina's prize blade." And I'm back with Great Dynasty. Roni was about to add but stopped himself just in time.
He didn't want to inform Ren that he got kicked out and that it was all thanks to him that he was back in the guild again.
"Is that all?"
Roni's lips wanted to raise to form an ugly sneer, but he restrained himself. He needed to lower his head for this request.
Roni scratched the back of his head and looked over the ceiling like his answers were found there. "You're the one who defeated the Night Thing, right? Everyone was talking about it in the forums and some said that they saw your group stayed in the clan while every players were shooed away."
Ren crossed his hands. He knew what Roni wanted to ask. "And what of it? If you want to know how we did it, it was all by chance."
Ren wasn't in the mood to entertain Roni at the moment. His revenge for him would have to wait until he sorted things with World Conqueror and Serius Alvarez.
Not to mention that he was pissed for having thoughts about Evie. Roni could have weird designs for other women for all he cared, just not Evie. Never Evie.
"Chance?" Roni didn't believe that for a moment. For some reason, Ren seemed like he knew more about the game than even most beta testers.
Though he was jealous that Ren got firstblood, he was not here to argue with him. And soon, Ren would face his downfall at the hands of the Alvarez family. Killing the Night Thing was his last glory.
"Actually, I'm not here for the Night Thing." Roni briefly looked at Evie before he continued, "Defeating the Night Thing yields Crystal and Platinum chests, right? Great Dynasty is willing to buy the items in those chests. Name your price."
Great Dynasty had the money, but what they didn't have were books and rare items—especially equipment.
Ren's lips twitched while Evie pursed her lips.
Ren crossed his hands. "Unfortunately, those items belongs to the client. I got nothing to sell you out from that." and if I did, I wouldn't. He would sell it to the auction house to spike the price.
Roni's expression dropped. "Is that so? Too bad. Great Dynasty is even willing to pay hundreds of thousand for it."
Ren wanted to laugh. He could get more than a million for just one book alone if he auctioned them. He wasn't a naïve idiot who didn't know the price of everything in the game.
Others might have jumped at the offer of the tempting sum of money, not even aware that they were being swindled.
"IF that is all. Then we'll be going ahead."
And before Roni could speak, Ren slightly pushed Evie forward by the shoulder, urging her to follow him. In the first place, he should have ignored Roni. He didn't know why he stopped and listened to his bullshit again.
"Ah . . . wait!" Roni reached out his hand in empty air, but Ren and Evie were already meters away from him.
Roni wanted to know who the girl was beside Ren, but he guessed that could wait for another time. The girl was wearing their school emblem, so she must be studying in Fate. With his skill in gossiping, he was confident that he would know her by tomorrow.
? Taking one last look at Ren's back, Roni's lips quirked in a satisfied smile. With the Alvarez restricting his movement in the game, Ren might as well kiss his gaming carer goodbye.
Roni laughed before he went the opposite side, whistling along the way.
At the same time, Evie looked over at the serious face of Ren.
"You don't like that guy?"
Ren blinked and the ominous aura around him dissipated. "Is that obvious?"
Evie nodded. "Who is he, if you don't mind me asking?"
"He's just someone in the neighborhood in Zone C from where we lived in the past."
"I see . . ."
The two then rode the train going to their stop. And unlike before that they were at least ten meters apart. Now their shoulders would sometimes bump as the train moved.
This got the usual admirers of Evie – who took the train where she was even though it wasn't their stop, just to see her – fume in indignation.
While Evie's fan club was cursing Ren in their head multiple times already.
They couldn't do anything, but grit their teeth since Evie didn't mind the closeness. Everyone saw that the two were side by side when they left school and until they boarded the same train.
Ren was aware of the multiple dagger stares that were piercing him from all sides. He ignored them while he and Evie talked about the game from time to time.
But the constant stares, not at him, but at Evie was bothering him. Maybe it was time to buy a car? He knew how to drive one because of his company in his past life that preferred someone who knew how to drive.
Fortunately, until they arrived at Diamond Palace, nothing unexpected happened. They parted ways with a smile on their faces.
"See you tomorrow," Evie said.
Ren nodded. "See you. Don't work so late."
Despite Evie's paralyzed face, her lips rose in a charming smile. "It's part of my job."
"Oh, right." Of course, Ren knew that. He was only baiting her to tell him where she lived. "Are you going to be alright walking home late at night? If you want, I can take you home."
Evie was taken back, and surprise registered on her face while Ren wanted to knock his head senseless.
Did he appear like a stalker? Was he too fast and acted like a creep?
"If you don't want–"
"No."
". . . Huh?"
"If it's no trouble, then . . ." She beamed and Ren froze.
