Chapter 836 Four Pillars: Two Years
Two years.
From touching the Azure Serpent Staff in the hopes of bettering the potential of his subclass to arriving at his current point, it had taken Valyr a total of two years to get to it.
Of course, it was not easy for the young man to do such a thing, especially if one were to realize that he had only spent a few months out in Veldanyr in comparison.
In a way, it was a challenge to see where his limit in fortitude, determination, and perseverance lied.
Thankfully, for the sake of improving his combat prowess, and for the sake of his efforts not being wasted in the end, he saw everything to the bitter end.
And now, it had finally paid off.
As an azure energy began to fill his vision, Valyr was filled with elation, thinking about how he had spent most of those two years attempting to get to this current step.
Throughout the majority of those two years, he continued to deepen his understanding of both Shadow Energy and mana.
Not only that, but he had also alloted some time to focus on the two Intent Seeds that allowed his braided energy to be as unique as it was.
Fortunately, all of those tangents had finally culminated into a significant result, as well as a few major results along the way.
One of which was the advancement of his Intent Seed of the Four Elements to the Second Stage.
Deepening his understanding of the interaction between mana and the four foundational elements once more, Valyr was shown far more paths than before, outnumbering what he had seen during his advancement to the First Stage by at least five times.
Though, aside from the four foundational elements now appearing to be more in line with mana in terms of flexibility, the young man was also shown a brief glimpse into the crystallization of the four paths themselves.
Combining all of the various branches that delved into pure and combined elements in that one path, the crystallization of the paths had shown themselves in the form of beasts, the aura they gave off making Valyr feel like he was looking at the zenith of each element.
For a while after that advancement, the young man wondered where the idea of the beasts in the Intent Seed had come from, considering how all of his Intent Seeds so far had arrived at their current points through his personal understanding.
Then again, it did not take him long to find his answer, being reminded that he had gotten to his current point by slaying a mountain's worth of beasts along the way.
With them having various forms and specializations depending on their environments, Valyr felt that this variety resonated with the myriad possibilities the four elements had shown him in his Intent Seed.
Nevertheless, with it having advanced to the Second Stage, a greater balance was struck between the two Intent Seeds once more while at the same time increasing the braided energy's power.
In the end, it could be said that the advancement of the Intent Seeds was a major turning point that allowed him to finally conjure the azure energy he and Sellifer had been waiting for him to create for a long time.
However, when the azure energy Valyr had formed was not a light but a haze, a hint of panic appeared on the young man's eyes as he shifted his gaze towards Sellifer.
Seeing the woman in a pensive expression, the young man inwardly took in a deep breath before attempting to conjure the azure energy once more.
Ignoring all of the notification sounds that were going off in his mind, Valyr held his breath as both Shadow Energy and mana manifested on top of his palm.
Then, with the Intent Seed of Shadow Energy and the Four Elements being infused into it, the energies began to intertwine with one another as if it were their second nature.
Imposing his will into it, he watched as the braid gradually disappeared from the naked eye as the entire thing took on an azure hue to him yet again.
'A haze…' Yet, even after he had repeated it a couple more times after that to make sure he wasn't mistaken, the azure energy he had generated ended up becoming nothing more than a haze.
At that moment, Valyr felt incredibly distraught, wondering if the heavens were making a mockery of his efforts thus far.
The sacrifices he had made within the past two years.
'So much for being rewarded for my efforts…' inwardly muttered Valyr to himself as he took in a few deep breaths to calm himself down.
Now that he had gotten over the fact that his azure energy had taken on another form rather than the light Sellifer generated, Valyr realized that his attempt was not entirely a failure.
For one, the azure haze felt higher quality compared to the combination of energies and Intent Seeds that made up his braided energy from before.
Aside from before, he could feel a slumbering power lingering beneath the haze that resonated with him, waiting to be awakened at the perfect moment.
"I see."
While the young man was still thinking of ways to salvage the situation, Sellifer finally realized what was going on.
Extending out one of her palms, she conjured a wisp of energy on the level of the Azure Trace, reminding Valyr of the goal that he should have achieved at this point.
Though, not long after, the wisp of azure light seemingly collapsed on itself right before very eyes.
Wondering what Sellifer was trying to do, Valyr's eyes widened in surprise when he saw the same haze he had created appear on Sellifer's palm.
"To think there's a stage that exists before the Azure Trace," muttered Sellifer as she looked at the haze she created, her current expression that of slight disbelief and interest. "Then again, I guess it should have been a given, considering how I'd utilized the power of a Force to create it in the first place."
Feeling a bit confused as he listened to the woman's murmurs, Valyr eventually focused his entire attention on what Sellifer had to say after seeing a wide smile appear on her face.
"Congratulations, Valyr," said the woman. "Though your efforts have taken a surprising turn along the way, you've ultimately achieved the goal of the inheritance."
"Eh?" Valyr still didn't understand what was going on. "But wasn't the goal to create the Azure Trace?"
"That was supposed to be the case." Sellifer nodded in agreement. "But the Gates of Awakening did say that the goal of the inheritances was for the inheritor to take a step into the path they've decided to inherit."
"I know it's confusing, but to sum it all up…"
"You might have just discovered the actual start to this path of mine."
