Chapter 841 Four Pillars: Skill Overhaul (4)
841 Four Pillars: Skill Overhaul (4)
At the very moment the skill accepted the Fire element, a grin briefly flashed on the young man's face, feeling immense delight from the confirmation.
After all, an ultimate technique that could take on multiple variations was obviously far more dangerous compared to one that did not.
Watching as a part of the barren ground resembled the terrain of the Shadow Plane yet again, the young man witnessed it crack once more as a large azure phoenix began to soar into the skies.
Screech!!!
Letting out a cry similar to the tiger, the azure phoenix soon rained down a storm of flames around where the skill activated, giving the ultimate technique an encore of sorts.
More than satisfied with the fact that the ultimate technique of the newly changed [Four Paths Azure Magic Arts] was as flexible as its first technique in terms of elemental infusion, the young man swiftly moved onto the other skills making up his arsenal.
Of course, only the active skills under his belt were the ones retrofitted to make use of Azure Energy, considering that he needed to infuse the energy into the skill first for it to begin changing.
However, there were still a couple of passive skills that surprisingly changed in the midst of his retrofitting.
One of them being [Shadow Eye].
Ding!
[Due to your actions, the skill 'Shadow Eye' has changed to 'Azure Eye'.]
As he obtained this notification from the system, Valyr scratched the back of his head as he wondered why a passive skill that merely connected him to the Shadow Plane would transform out of nowhere.
Though, as he focused on this thought, it was there that the young man obtained his answer.
Unexpectedly, the skill transforming to [Azure Eye] made him feel like his connection with the Shadow Plane had become stronger, allowing him to obtain far more Shadow Energy from the plane than he previously could.
And since he could obtain far more Shadow Energy at once, that meant that he could generate more Azure Energy at once, thereby increasing the speed at which he unleashed his skills.
Feeling like he had lucked out for some reason, the young man began to wonder what changes the skill would undergo if he were to upgrade his Shadow Energy to its next form.
10:06
At the same time, he wondered what kind of changes improving his Azure Energy would bring to the skill, seeing that it now occupied a section itself.
Nevertheless, that small side quest did not stop the young man from completing his initial goal of retrofitting all of the skills he could to make use of his newly obtained energy.
With how much experience he had accrued in the past two years, it only took the young man two months to go through all of his skills, feeling like his combat prowess had gone up by a notch once more.
After he had transformed [Arcane Shadow Serpent Magic Style] to the [Four Paths Azure Magic Arts], Valyr moved onto the skill under the Arcane Shadow Serpent series that tackle his attacks with the spear.
Unsurprisingly, most of the techniques under this skill preferred a specific element just like the other techniques, with the only exception to it being [Cataclysm of the Dark Arcanum].
With it acting similarly to [Four Paths Azure Zenith] in terms of elemental infusion, it was no surprise that the skill had obtained a similar name, taking on the name [Four Paths Azure Ruination].
Seeing that the changed skill transformed part of the land before him into a piece of the Shadow Plane, Valyr was reminded of the other ultimate technique.
Only for that to all change as the ground occupied by the skill turned a deep azure.
With him infusing the skill with the Wind element, the ground soon transformed into a myriad of azure dragons, all of them lunging towards a specific spot in that occupied space.
As he watched this transformed skill unfold, Valyr was once more reminded of his fight against Dawan and Daon, wondering if these transformed skills would have evened out the stakes between both sides.
Naturally, it would.
But once again, the two had Myth-level strength.
Seeing [Arcane Shadow Serpent Combat Style] transform into the [Four Paths Azure Spear Arts], Valyr moved onto the final skill under the Arcane Shadow Serpent series, [Arcane Shadow Serpent Movement Style].
Unlike the first two skills that were also part of the series, [Arcane Shadow Serpent Movement Style] surprisingly had no techniques under its belt that was capable of accepting all four elements.
In fact, its techniques did not accept all four elements either, with three out of the four resulting in a failed change.
It was only when the movement skills were infused with the Wind element did the skills successfully change, prompting Valyr to shake his head as he wryly smiled.
'Of course. It would only make sense for a movement skill to make use of the fastest element out of the four.'
And thus, [Arcane Shadow Serpent Movement Style] eventually became a thing of the past, being replaced with the new and improved [Azure Dragon Movement Arts].
Out of all the skills within the newly transformed skill, Valyr felt the greatest excitement when he witnessed [False Wings of the Shadow Wyvern] transform into its azure dragon counterpart, [Flight of the Azure Dragon].
Whoosh!
With him riding on top of an oriental dragon made out of his Azure Energy, the young man zoomed through the air at great speeds, changing directions every so often to the point that even birds would have difficulty following him.
In the end, Valyr only stopped using the skill the moment it had run out of steam, taking far more time to do so than its previous version.
As for the remaining skills making up his arsenal, most of them did not undergo the same change as the skills under the Arcane Shadow Serpent series did.
Instead, all of them only improved in terms of potency and cost efficiency, keeping the name that they previously had.
Then again, the skills Valyr had focusing on elemental manipulation transformed similarly to the Arcane Shadow Serpent skills.
However, unlike those skills, these skills transformed to take on the form of the specific beast of that element.
Seeing that he had more or less retrofitted all of the skills he could under his belt with Azure Energy, Valyr soon let out a long sigh of relief as he laid down on the ground.
Now that the hard part was over…
It was now time for him to return.
"I must say… with how much power your skills contain, I'm surprised you're not of a higher class rank."
"Then again, you are a Zeihardt."
Seeing Sellifer sit down beside him as she said those words, Valyr let out a bit of laughter as he continued to lay down on the ground.
"Just because I'm a Zeihardt doesn't mean you can downplay all of the effort I've put into getting where I am thus far," said the young man after some time, taking on a joking tone.
"I'm not." Sellifer slowly shook her head. "If anything, it makes your effort all the more admiring. After all, most of the Zeihardts I knew coasted along the ranks with the inborn talents they were given."
"In fact, I only know a handful of Zeihardts that have put in such levels of effort to aim for a higher peak."
"Naturally, one of them is you."
As the young man smiled at those words, the two continued to talk for a bit more, taking their mind off Azure Energy after having focused on it for the past two plus years.
Eventually, Valyr sat upright as he patted off the dust on his back.
Then, letting out a long exhale, he looked at Sellifer with an expression of gratitude. "I suppose this is the part where we say our goodbyes."
"I suppose so," said Sellifer in response, giving the young man a bitter smile.
Standing up, Valyr flashed back a bitter smile of his own. "If I could, I would have liked to spend more time here to improve my Shadow Energy."
"But even though you said it'll feel like only a few days have passed for the others after staying here for over two years, I still can't help but worry about the others."
"You're talking about the two companions that accompanied you, right?" asked Sellifer back, eliciting a nod from the young man in response.
"If that's the case, then you don't need to worry too much." Hearing that, the woman decided to reassure the young man, though her words instead made Valyr feel confused.
Seeing the confusion on his face, she explained, "Though we've spent over two years here, only a bit over a day has passed for them."
"They're worried as to where you've gone to, but they're not too worried since they know your capabilities."
Bang!
Furrowing his brows in response, Valyr went ahead and opened up a rift back to the inheritance proper, only to be greeted by the sight of the sun at the peak of its trajectory.
Seeing that, the young man's eyes widened in disbelief, looking back at the woman behind him with multiple questions written all over his face.
In response, Sellifer chuckled. "Trust in the abilities of a Lesser Goddess from the Azure River Pantheon."
"Lesser Goddess…" muttered Valyr back, the gears in his mind turning as multiple things suddenly began to make sense to the young man.
However, before he could say anything, Sellifer pushed him towards the rift.
"Take these before you go."
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Sending out a few strands of Azure Energy in Valyr's direction, the young man watched as one of them transformed into the weapon that allowed him to meet Sellifer in the first place.
As for the remaining strands, all of them made their way towards his head, instilling him with vast amounts of information that put Valyr on the verge of falling unconscious.
Nevertheless, he forced himself not to succumb, looking back at Sellifer one last time.
"Watch out for vertigo," said the woman to him as she nodded, only to send out another strand of Azure Energy one last time.
Bang!
And with that, the young man passed through the rift as he fell unconscious.
