Chapter 47.2. Saved Children

-???’s POV-

Charity Events. Charity events jumped out at me for one reason.

When I glanced at the newly arrived kids, they were normal. Their bodies, which had been scrawny, were getting bigger and better.

“Hey, do you know why the charity event came here?”

The newcomers looked at each other and shook their heads in denial.

“Shishishishi, I don’t know.”

“Umm, yeah, I don’t know. I was lucky.”

“God saved us!”

“Oh, you idiot! That’s a secret!”

“That’s right. Himichu!”

The little girl who swimming in the bathtub clapped her hands over her mouth in a panic. It’s suspicious. These kids know why the charity event came to our house.

The deception is a mess. Their eyes moved around like flying fish. But I don’t think they will tell me even if I ask them. The little girl might tell me, but I don’t think she would know what it means. What does God mean?

“I wonder if it’s better if I don’t know.”

“Umm, yes. It’s better not to know!”

“There are things in the world ~ we better not know. Our lives are precious.”

I should not pursue the matter. I don’t want to get into trouble by saying unnecessary things. We don’t want to poke the snake and get into the bush. Hmmm? Am I saying it wrong? Well, never mind.

Let’s leave the mystery as a mystery. With that in mind, I left the bath and headed for the cafeteria. After the charity event, we got one more dish added to the menu, and a snack was also served. That’s great.

However, we still have to cook the meals ourselves. It’s hard work because we have to cook meals for 50 people. Today is Saturday, so we still have plenty of time to spare, but on days when school is in session, it’s very difficult. The director does the prep work and the heavy lifting, so I can get by, but dinner is still going to be late.

I rolled up my sleeves and went into the kitchen to find a strange woman. The director was with her. Who could it be?

“Director-sensei. Who is that person?”

“Oh, she’s a new hire. She’s part-time. She prepares meals. I’ll introduce her to everyone later.”

“Part-time!”

I observed the woman. She is a little plump and looks kind with a smile. The leader has seen many people with a kind smile, but with a nasty bottom line. Orphans usually meet such people and are sensitive to people’s ill will.

Considering this, this lady seems to be a good person. A bad character is something that oozes out from somewhere.

“But, Director~? If you waste money, you will have a hard time later~?”

No matter how much money came in from charity, isn’t he spending too much? Extravagance is the enemy in this orphanage. I would be very happy if they would give me an extra slice of sponge cake as a snack.

When I stare at him with a jealous look, the director scratches his head and smiles bitterly.

“I know. I know what you want to say. But, you know, the Teijo family told me to show you a life you can afford with the money from the charity.”

“A life you can afford?”

“Not exactly an order, though. We have received considerable donations, but if we don’t give you a decent life, they’ll be suspicious of how we spend the money, especially the orphanage. I got a warning that it would be bad if I didn’t spend it properly for the children, especially the orphanage.”

“Huh, so much money was donated, about 20 million yen, 30 million yen?”

I’ve never heard of such a warning. That’s right.

“That’s the thing. Lend me your ear.”

He whispered in my ear. I am still one of the oldest in the orphanage, and the director trusts me. But the amount of money he whispers in my ear leaves me speechless.

“What? Jee, eeeeeeeeeeee!?”

It was an amount of money I had never imagined. I was speechless and stared at the director. I understood that such an amount of money would require a caretaker.

“I can even get you guys into high school.”

He pats me on the head with my favorite smile. I see. There is now a chance that I can go to high school.

I feel a warmth in my chest, and I’m happy. This is thanks to the charity. I had already given up on going to high school, but if I can go on to higher education, I will do my best in my studies.

“Director, charity is great, isn’t it?”

“No, that charity is out of the ordinary. It was thanks to that recovery magician girl. Normally, they don’t use recovery magic for free.”

“Heh. Is that so? Then that girl is a better person than the director!”

Who is that girl? She seems like someone unreachable. Admiring her, I help the leader girl prepare the meal.

While taking out a hunk of beef from the fridge, the leader girl sends her thanks to the pretty girl with a smile.

Perhaps she was the one who saved the day.
