Chapter 51 Finding It Palatable
Chapter 51 Finding It Palatable
Since she put it that way, Mr. Fang couldn't find a way to leave her hanging, although he almost told her that he didn't need her services.
"You are really daring! After that storm you cooked up in the morning, you still had the confidence to step into the kitchen to cook up another thing?"
'Oh!' Zhang Liling exclaimed in her head. It's just now that she understood the reason Mr. Fang was refusing to eat the food she prepared for him.
Turns out that he was scared that she might have cooked another nonsense for him to eat.
A little smile slowly appeared on her face and she hurriedly explained, "Mr. Fang, you don't need to worry about my cooking anymore especially when it comes to making pasta. I am very good at it. I also make really coffee, and the reason you tea tasted so badly was because I didn't look at the salt container properly since I was in a hurry."
'Is she promoting her cooking skills now?'
Mr. Fang wasn't moved by her shameless self promotion. "That is not enough reason to put my life in the line like I need in the morning. If you pasta tastes so good, you can take my place and have it for dinner."
Seeing that he wasn't keen on eating her meal, Zhang Liling had no choice but to use her last card by putting her job on the line.
"Mr. Fang, if you try the pasta and still not find it palatable, you can go ahead and fire me immediately, and I will leave no complaints."
'What a bold move' Mr. Fang thought as he eyed her. There was sincerity in her eyes and that was one thing that assured him, but he still wasn't going to make things easy for her.
"If I don't like the food which you are forcing me to eat, you will not only lose your job, I will also hand you over to the police, do you agree?"
"You...you will ha...hand me over to the police?" Zhang Liling stuttered.
How was he taking thing so serious? What if he actually likes her food but ends up denying it just to send her to the police, wouldn't that be a hug loss on her side?
If she is sent to the police station, there was no way she wouldn't end up going back to the Zhang villa.
Mr. Fang's patience was exhausted seeing her delay in agreeing to his rule, and he turned to walk back into his bedroom, but she clutched his arm almost immediately.
"Mr. Fang, I will agree to your rules. Please come and try the food before it gets cold." Zhang Liling said with a small desperate smile.
Mr. Fang was a bit surprised that she agreed, but refused to show it on his face. He ended up shifting his gaze to her hand, signalling her to let go.
"Sorry," Zhang Liling apologized and led the way to the dining room.
From the stairs, Mr. Fang could still perceive the aroma from the pasta even before he got to the foot of the stairs.
'This food had better be what the aroma.'
In the dining room, Zhang Liling pulled the seat out for him, and gestured for him to sit, before going on to remove the plates she used in covering the pasta and the salad.
Immediately she did that, the aroma wafted to Mr. Fang's nostrils, causing him to be interested. Thankfully, he had already taken his pills and the effect were almost immediate, so he didn't have to worry about the strong scent.
Glancing at the bottle of wine in front of him, he pointed at it and asked, "Why did you bring it here?"
"Oh! I thought it would be a good pairing with the pasta, can I open it now?" Zhang Liling asked while picking up the bottle of wine.
Mr. Fang rolled his eyes and said while picking up his cutlery, "We can't waste a good bottle of wine over a plate of food that is not worth it. The food has to prove its worth first."
Zhang Liling could only shut up and put the bottle down while expectantly watching Mr. Fang try out the pasta.
Using his fork, Mr. Fang picked up a little quantity before bringing it close to his nose. His actions showed that he was scarred after the horrible experience in the morning.
Taking a slow bite, he munched on it while relinquishing the taste.
'Not bad' He thought, while Zhang Liling watched him nervously. She looked scared and a little impatient at the same time.
Was the food good or not? Is it to his taste or not? Does he like it or not? Am I getting fired?
Having lost her patience after seeing Mr. Fang send another spoon into his mouth, she asked, "Mr. Fang, how is it?"
Mr. Fang glared at her for disturbing him. "You ask too many questions. Serve the wine and leave, you can come back later."
Zhang Liling heard that, and her eyes glistened with hope. "Does that mean you find the pasta to your taste?"
Mr. Fang dropped his cutlery, causing it to make a clanking sound, while fixing an annoyed gaze at her.
Zhang Liling knew she was wrong and quickly apologized, and went on to serve the wine before leaving.
It was after she left that he resumed eating, while drinking the red wine in the glass.
After eating, he wiped his lips and left the living room for his bedroom. Since he didn't call her, Zhang Liling had to keep watch for when he would finish eating.
She knew when he left and immediately rushed over to see that he had eaten more than half of the food. As for the salad, he only touched a little bit if it.
Looking at everything on the table, she discovered that he only had one glass of wine and finished the bottle water.
Although he didn't finish the pasta, she could tell that he liked it which made her satisfied. At least she wasn't getting fired, and she also wasn't going to be handed over to the police.
The only thing on her mind at the moment, was victory. She wasn't too bothered about the reason he didn't finish the food or even touch the salad because there were reasons she could think of on her own.
It was either this was his first time eating that kind of pasta, or he wasn't really hungry. As for the salad, it's either he didn't like it, or there was no space in his stomach to put it.
Zhang Liling happily cleared the table before serving dinner to her and the butler, after giving him the remaining bottle of wine to preserve.
Seeing how happy she was, and from the signs he could see, he could tell that Mr. Fang had eaten the food she served him without complaints. Now that was making him look forward to his own dinner portion.
