She recalled how the special forces soldier had said Lu Xiangsi was still alive and was sent to the hospital.
Lin Nuan didn’t ask just then, and Fu Huai’an didn’t say anything either. Yet the outcome was self-evident.
Fu Huai’an said, “It’s not wrong for Tuan Tuan to call you mother. After all, you are the mom that gave him a second shot at life.”
As she turned over, she felt her eyes grow wet as she thought of Tuan Tuan. She finally knew who his beautiful appearance resembled—the child’s eyes were remarkably similar to Sister Xiangsi, while his nose and small mouth looked completely like those of Jiang Ming’an.
The big bed was full of Fu Huai’an’s strong, intoxicating male scent. Lin Nuan carefully pulled the covers over herself to avoid it contacting her nose and mouth.
Before that night, Lin Nuan would have never thought that Fu Huai’an—the man with a rugged maturity and dark knowing of society, who seemed comfortable with basically everything—was the very same person that passed her that helmet, body armor, and combat uniform back then. The man with soldier paint on his face who radiated a heroic quality from his whole being.
Soldiers had always been associated with integrity, selflessness, dedication, and bravery in her heart; but a businessman seemed to have no relation to these words.
However, simply tossing away his identity as a businessman, Fu Huai’an’s appearance in his military uniform appeared in her mind. She only felt her heart thumping with his imposing image in her head. He looked perfectly suited in that attire as if he was born to be like that.
No wonder Lin Nuan felt a special kind of alpha charm other men didn’t have from Fu Huai’an.
After a while, Lin Nuan doze off and returned to the sunny afternoon back at Iraq.
Fu Huai’an, appearing tall and slender and dressed in his combat uniform, was looking down at her. His deep, magnetic voice rang in her ear, saying, “Your gun is locked.”
Lin Nuan opened her eyes abruptly, her heart pounding vigorously. Her throat felt dry.
As she calmed down a bit, she sat up and grabbed her phone under her pillow to check the time. It was three twenty-three in the morning. She put the phone on the table and got up to get some water from the kitchen.
The apartment was especially silent at that time of night.
The pool outside the windows reflected a light blue ambiance that illuminated the whole apartment. The floor and the ceiling looked as if they were underwater.
As Lin Nuan came out of the bedroom, she heard a sound in the apartment—it was a man’s rhythmic and clear breathing and moaning coming from upstairs.
She paused midway as she shut the door. Holding her breath, she listened intently and tried to tell who it was.
She wasn’t hallucinating. It was coming from Fu Huai’an.
Lin Nuan’s heart suddenly pounded in her chest, and her ears grew burning red. What on earth was he doing at that time of night?
She tried to slow down her heartbeat and dashed to the kitchen, fetching a cold bottle of water. She opened it and took a few sips, yet she was still unable to calm down.
After doing it twice with him, her only experience came from that man. It could not be wrong—the sounds were coming from him.
Fu Huai’an’s deep and rhythmic breathing traveled all the way into her ears. She felt them burning as she clutched her bottle and prepared to go back to the bedroom.
As she passed the kitchen, she noticed the ashtray on the table was filled with cigarette heads.
She paused for a second and looked upstairs. As if cast under a spell, she held the handle of the stairs and slowly proceeded upwards.
His sounds became even clearer as she went upstairs.
Lin Nuan’s felt her heart pounding in mid-air as if it was going to leap out her chest at any time.
What did she even come upstairs for? Was she invading someone’s privacy, or was she trying to convince Fu Huai’an not to be so horny? Was it even appropriate for her to talk about such a private matter with Fu Huai’an?
