Stella woke up immediately after hearing Trevor’s voice and was no longer sleepy. She quickly sat up and signaled Keegan not to say anything inappropriate to her boss. She did not want to pay for breaching the contract because of her relationship with Keegan.
Keegan glanced at her and calmly said into the phone, “She’s sleeping.”
Stella was speechless at his response.
Trevor’s face darkened at that, and his tone changed, “She slept with you?”
Stella quickly sat up and covered Keegan’s mouth. The expression on her face looked like she was trying to tell him, “Don’t you dare.”
Keegan looked at her naked chest and suddenly reached out to give her a squeeze. Stella immediately withdrew her hand to shield herself, her face full of disbelief. ‘He was rather conservative before the divorce. What happened on the bed stayed in bed. He never did anything indecent after sex. It was like he graduated first class from the Academy of Male Virtues. But what kind of immodest behavior is this? Did he lose all his male virtues after getting the vasectomy?’
Satisfied with Stella’s reaction, Keegan pinched her stunned face and said to the person on the other end of the phone, ‘We had dinner with Leighton last night. She got drunk, so I brought her to a hotel.”
“And you stayed?” Trevor asked.
Keegan pursed his lips and said, “Was I supposed to leave her here alone when she’s unconscious? You think that’s safe?’
Trevor choked when he heard that. ‘No, it isn’t safe. But it’s not any safer with you there!’ He thought. From Trevor’s standpoint, Keegan was like his neighbor’s dog, who kept looking at his parrot through the yard fence, wanting to take his pet away. No matter how hard Trevor tried to keep them apart, his bird still flew next door to play with the dog when he was not home. He felt bad being unable to keep an eye on the parrot or his sister.
“Do I need to remind you that the two of you are divorced, Keegan? Can you behave yourself? Why didn’t you just send her home if it wasn’t safe? Her career is just starting to take off, and you’re messing around with her. Are you afraid that she’d have a better life without you?”
Stella frowned, thinking Trevor’s words were slightly over the line. ‘He never talks like this in front of me. Why is he so harsh toward Keegan?’ Afraid that Keegan would get mad and argue with Trevor, Stella quickly said, “Trevor, I was the one who asked Kee- Mr. Kane to bring me to a hotel. Don’t worry. I was wearing a mask, so no one saw me. Please don’t blame him.”
Trevor stayed quiet. ‘Damn it. Did Keegan say that earlier just to provoke me? Why does it seem like I’m the bad guy now?’
Keegan, who was sitting on the side, teasingly said, “Trevor was just concerned. Just let him say what he wants. This isn’t the first time he said something like that to me. I’m used to it.”
Trevor wanted to grab the insole of his shoe and gag Keegan with it at that moment. ‘God! This guy always says the wrong things at the wrong time!’ Though Trevor was furious, he could not bring himself to be mad at his baby sister. He swallowed his anger and decided to ignore Keegan.
“Grandpa and Grandma arrived at Rivera yesterday. They initially planned to meet you on the weekend, but they couldn’t wait to see you. So they called me to ask if we could bring the meeting forward to this afternoon. I’ve asked the crew about your schedule, and you don’t have anything going on at that time. What do you say?’ ‘How am I supposed to reject you when you’ve already checked my
schedule?’ Stella said to herself. ‘But whatever. It’s going to happen sooner or later since I’ve agreed to the meeting.’
