Hearing that, the crowd began to discuss Stella being an illegitimate daughter.
“I can’t believe Stella is the illegitimate daughter, and Sophia is the actual daughter of the Jewell family. You don’t even get to see this kind of a plot twist on TV.”
“How does she have the nerve to show up on such a joyous occasion?”
“Look at her. I bet she’s either here to win sympathy or to ask for money. I heard that Mr. Jewell has been secretly helping her out despite her not being his actual daughter.”
“Mr. Jewell is a good man. I would’ve found someone else too if I knew that my wife cheated on me and had a baby.”
Stella’s eyelids twitched when she heard that. ‘No wonder Albert transferred fifty thousand dollars to me for no reason before this. It’s all for show. He just wanted to establish the image of a good father,* she thought.
Stella’s expression remained the same no matter what the people said about her.
Annoyed that Stella was not giving them the reaction they wanted, Sophia and Xianna glanced at each other. Then, the latter immediately said, “Stella, you look miserable after the
divorce. Did you buy that dress at the thrift store? It looks so poorly made. Don’t you have anything decent for the wedding? Sophia can lend you one of her dresses if you
want. If I remember correctly, Sophia always got your hand- me-downs when you were younger, right? I hope you don’t mind wearing Sophia’s clothes this time around.”
Keegan could not stand to see Stella being embarrassed, and he wanted to go forward to help her. However, Aldor hurriedly pulled him back.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Kane. Ms. Jewell is a strong woman. She won’t be affected by those comments that easily. It’s important to wait for the finale,” said Aldor.
Keegan understood the situation, but he did not like to see Stella being bullied like that. ‘She used to be able to say and do whatever she wanted with me around. How can I not be worried now that she’s all alone?’ he thought as he stared at the group sullenly, memorizing their faces one by one.
Sophia looked at Stella’s sad expression and smiled before she hypocritically said, “I brought two other sets of clothing today, Stella. I’ve only worn them once. Do you want to change into them?”
Hearing that, Stella looked up and glanced at her. Just when Sophia thought she was about to get mad, Stella asked in disdain, “What brand are they? I’ll pass if the dresses are from a cheap brand like the one you’re wearing right now.”
Sophia’s face stiffened as she clenched her fists.
“You uneducated bitch. This dress is handmade by the
famous designer, Wendy Carlson. It was also worn by a certain celebrity on Paris Fashion Week. Do you know how much a dress like this would cost?” Xianna jumped in and said.
“Oh, my God. No wonder that dress looked familiar. It’s the one Nicole Aspen wore at the fashion week. It looked great in the videos, and it looks even more stunning in person.”
“Wendy Carlson is the most popular designer in Hustuabourg right now. Her pre-made designs are really hard to get, let alone a custom-made dress!”
“How dare she say that Wendy Carlson’s design looks cheap? Did she look in a mirror?”
“She’s clearly blind and in denial. She probably hasn’t accepted her sudden change of status from Mrs. Kane to the illegitimate daughter of the Jewell family.”
‘That dress doesn’t even appeal to straight men like Keegan, let alone me. The marketing is quite on point though,’ Stella thought to herself. “Oh. So, someone else has worn it? I thought it was a customized order,” she said.
