Then, Felicity left with a gloomy expression on her face.
Emily was ecstatic. “Vermont, there’s a hotel nearby. Should we go there and get some rest?”
Vermont’s gaze remained fixated on the cab driving away. He only looked away after the car completely disappeared from his sight.
He glanced at Emily nonchalantly and said in a cold voice,” Who gave you the audacity to shower in my house?”
Emily was taken aback by his sudden change of attitude. Then, she stuttered, “V-Vermont, wh-what did you say?”
“Don’t call me that.” Vermont chuckled lightly as his gaze turned frosty. “Do you think we’re that close?”
He leaned slightly forward and whispered in Emily’s ear. ’Do you know what happened to the person who did the same thing to me last time? I made her disappear from Rivera forever. You should be glad that I’m in a good mood today. Otherwise, I’d do the same to you.”
Then, he returned to his original position and glanced at Emily’s pale face. He smiled faintly. “Don’t look so sad; the police might think I’m mistreating you.”
Emily shivered and fearfully forced a smile on her face.
Vermont had worked on himself and improved his temper over the years, but people seemed to have forgotten how he fought his way up from the bottom.
He was so young, yet he managed to get where he was through his own abilities. He had seen all the dirtiest secrets in the industry and could easily see through a person’s intention when they approached him.
Only then did Emily realize that Vermont did not testify for her because he was interested in her. Instead, he was just putting on a show for someone else.
Felicity felt awful, and her heart throbbed in pain.
Suddenly, her phone rang. She looked at it and realized it was almost time for her follow-up appointment with Steven next Monday.
Just as the meeting ended, Aldor knocked on Keegan’s office door.
“Mr. Kane, something’s happened to Walter.”
Keegan paused and lifted his gaze. “What is it?”
Aldor placed the tablet in front of Keegan and responded, *’ This is the real-time location data from the tracking device on him. It hasn’t moved at all since last night, and it has been over forty hours now.
“I downloaded the audio recording here. Let me play it for you.”
Aldor pressed the play button as he spoke.
Keegan’s expression grew solemn upon listening to the conversation. When it ended, he looked somewhat surprised as he shifted his gaze to Aldor.
“He’s dead?”
Aldor nodded. “Most probably. The location of the tracker is very close to the sea. I’ve contacted Mr. Lowe to find out where Hylda went these days. On the day Walter went missing, she was seen with a
large suitcase on surveillance cameras near that area. Then, she moved the following day and had her place thoroughly cleaned.”
Keegan remained silent for a moment before he said in a low voice, “Locate the suitcase and guide the police there.”
Aldor nodded.
Hylda was far more wicked than Keegan had expected her to be.
He thought that taking away the money would cause them to turn against each other, but he did not expect Hylda to get rid of Walter in such a brutal way.
Keegan figured that a person like Hylda would probably lose control and do unimaginable things to Stella if she ever found out that Stella was behind everything. So, Keegan got very worried as he told Aldor, “Get several skilled bodyguards to protect my wife. Don’t tell her about it; just do everything secretly.”
“Yes, Mr. Kane.”
Three days later, the fishermen out at sea retrieved a suitcase. They opened it and found a bloated and decaying
corpse inside. They were terrified and immediately contacted the police.
The police arrived at the scene very swiftly.
The body inside the suitcase was already in an advanced state of decay, and it was only wearing underwear. There were two fatal wounds on the chest. The victim had a rather small build, so it could be stuffed into a suitcase.
After collecting the evidence, the police recovered the face of the victim and published it online.
