Having been in the circle for so many years, Vermont thought he had seen it all.
When the woman embraced him, he sensed trouble brewing.
Several accusations were thrown at him without him being able to defend himself.
His expression turned icy. Just as Vermont was about to address the situation, he noticed Felicity in the crowd, looking at the scene. He felt a tight knot in his chest.
‘Oh dear. Is she going to overthink this?’ Vermont was in a panic. He almost pushed through the people to provide an explanation when Felicity suddenly sank to the ground and burst into tears.
“Ah!” She clutched her stomach, appearing distressed.” Vermont, my belly hurts.
Is something wrong with the baby?”
Her cry drew everyone’s attention.
The woman who had hugged Vermont turned pale and confronted Felicity, “Who are you? What’s your relationship with Vermont?”
Vermont’s eyelid twitched, and he forcefully pushed Elsa away. He approached Felicity, crouched down, and helped her up.
Before he could speak, Felicity asked, “Vermont, who is that woman? Why is she saying that you’re here to win her back?
Didn’t you bring me here to take notes for our engagement party? Are you actually here for her? Don’t you want me and the baby anymore?”
She then discreetly pinched her thigh to force out more tears.
Vermont nearly laughed out loud at her amateur acting. Biting his tongue, he looked heartbroken and said, “What are you thinking? Why would I bring you to this engagement banquet if something is going on between me and her?”
‘But you’re wearing your love token,” Felicity whined.
“Love token? I bought this watch myself. There’s only one symbol of love in my life.” Vermont touched her small abdomen and continued, ‘And it’s this baby you’re carrying. I won’t let anyone here off the hook if something happens to you and the baby.”
Felicity’s eye twitched, and she threw herself into Vermont’s arms. In a hoarse voice, she said, “Vermont, I’m scared.”
Vermont lifted her, “Don’t be afraid. Let’s take you to the hospital.”
As they moved to leave, Xander refused to back down, “You ruined my engagement banquet and seduced my wife.
Where do you think you’re going?”
Vermont glanced at him and kicked his knee hard.
Xander’s leg gave way, and he knelt on the ground.
Vermont stepped on his shoulder, bent over, and coldly said, “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. Look in the mirror before you try to play the hero.”
He kicked the man once more and carried Felicity away without looking back.
Felicity’s heart pounded, ‘Gosh. He’s so handsome when he’s being serious.’ As they passed by Elsa, Felicity heard her calling Vermont’s name, but the man did not stop. He went straight through the crowd
and into the elevator.
Once inside, Felicity wanted to get off, but Vermont did not put her down. He held her in his arms and whispered, “Don’t make a scene. Think about the baby.”
