Vermont poured a glass of water and said slowly, “They are simply making assumptions without any solid proof. Even if you guys clarify your relationship with each other, you’re not going to shut them up. You might even attract more trouble. They could think that you only got those career opportunities because of your relationship with Leighton.
“Besides, no one knows that the person in the photo is you. Why are you in such a rush to reveal yourself?”
Stella frowned, “What should we do then? We can’t just let them tarnish Leighton’s reputation without doing anything, right?”
Vermont put down the cup and leaned forward, “Of course. Someone needs to do something, but not you two.”
“Who should do it then?”
Vermont lifted his chin at Leighton, “Your girlfriend. It’s time for her to show her worth now.”
Leighton’s face turned red in anger, “I’m not going to ask for her help!”
“Tsk,” Vermont clicked his tongue before saying, “She kissed you, and you didn’t push her away. She asked you to be her fake boyfriend, and you didn’t refuse. Now that you’re in trouble, you won’t ask for
her help. Who do you think you are? A saint?”
Leighton’s face turned even redder. He said while clenching his jaw, “How do you know our relationship is fake?”
Felicity immediately felt guilty as she held her cup up to cover her face while pretending to take a sip of water.
Vermont scoffed, “There’s nothing I don’t know in this industry.”
Being as naive as he was, Leighton did not suspect the two traitors in front of him. However, upon thinking that he had to ask for Nicole’s help, he just would not give in.
Just as he was still busy getting angry, Vermont received a phone call from Nicole.
“Is Leighton with you?”
Vermont glanced at Leighton, who was tense all over, and calmly responded with a “Yes.”
“I’m coming over,” Nicole said before hanging up.
Twenty minutes later, Nicole arrived. As soon as she walked through the door, she shouted, “Leighton, you idiot! Why is your car not tinted at all? Are you stupid?”
Leighton’s mouth twitched, “Get out of here!”
“Silly Dog, who do you think you’re talking to?” Nicole glanced at him. She continued, “You’re the one who cheated; don’t get loud at me.”
At that moment, Leighton had a strong urge to shut her mouth with a piece of duct tape.
Stella noticed that Nicole dressed very casually, with a down jacket and a set of pajamas underneath. She was even wearing a pair of wool slippers.
Her hair was tied up, and she had no makeup on, looking a bit less charming with a hint of vulnerability.
Stella finally realized why directors like to cast her so much; Nicole’s face could tell a million stories.
‘Judging by her looks, she probably rushed here from her home right after seeing the trending searches online. She’s… quite a reliable friend.’ Stella thought to herself.
“Playing Mah-Jongg, huh?” Nicole looked at the table before shifting her gaze to Vermont, “Why am I not invited?”
Vermont wrapped his arm around Felicity and said, “My girlfriend is here. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to call my ex over, would it?”
