Yet, his current confusion outweighed his fear. “Dat the crap. Who cleaned the virus off your computer? What’s going on?”

“Payback,” was all Matthew said.

“You’re such a petty jerk. Don’t tempt me to tell that girl about you the next time I see her..” Zayn grumbled.

Matthew cut the call and put his phone on silent. He did not want to risk Cynthia hearing anything that might give her a reason to avoid him.

After Matthew ended the call, Cynthia assumed the conversation had concluded and did not think much more of it. Matthew was relieved that he had not been on the speaker. If Cynthia had overheard, she might start doubting him.

Later that evening, Cynthia returned home. Left alone on his couch, Matthew started to ponder over how he could possibly win Cynthia over.

Cynthia was not really sensitive to these subtle hints. After the day’s events, she had not given much thought to them. As soon as she got home, she went to rest. She had considered calling Sean to inquire about joshua, but Yves had already done so, and so she refrained

The following day, Cynthia received a call from Jayleen. They agreed to meet up at a restaurant. Not knowing Cynthia’s preferred cuisine, Jayleen ordered the restaurent’s signature dishes. Once their meal was served, Jayleen began to speak. “I realize I’ve never formally thanked you for everything,” she said.

“No need for that,” replied Cynthia, her tone markedly more subdued than before. She once found amusement in playful banter. However, these days, she seems to have lost interest in many things, or at least, they no longer evoke strong emotions

within her.

“Cynthia,” Jayleen started.

“Yes?”

“I’m sorry. I am sorry for all the wrongs I have done in the past,” Jayleen apologized sincerely. She owed Cynthia a great deal Even though she was cuerced into her actions, she had caused Cynthia burt. Yet, Cynthia chose to repay her evil with kindness, ensuring her safety when they were on Queneska Island.

“Let’s put everything behind us,” said Cynthia. Her feelings dissipated once she learned that Yerick had forced Jayleen into action.

Jayleen’s expression was complicated. She hit her lap and finally asked, “Is Joshua in trouble?”

“No,” Cynthia replied, withholding the truth from her.

Jaydeen wanted to press further, but fearing any misunderstandings, she simply enjoyed the meal with Cynthia without further probing. After dinner, Jayleen left Nexuria. Cynthia did not accompany her. She did not inquire about where jayleen was heading or whether she planned to continue modeling or pursue something else. To her, Jayleen was merely a passerby.

After dinner, Cynthia returned to Arch International. She did not have much on her plate. After reviewing her schedule for the day, she called Moe into her office. Captain had been with the company for almost a month. She had to inquire about his progress and steer him toward his areas of expertise.

Moe appeared in the office, a serious look on his clear–cut face, “Boss, you wanted to see me?”
