Harley’s eyes were threatening to burst out from their sockets. Nina could tell the suspense was killing him. But that was not all. From the anxiousness in his eyes, she could tell that he knew nothing about Sylvia’s pregnancy, or so it seemed.

If Sylvia hadn’t been pregnant, Nina honestly felt that the future would have looked brighter for them. Unfortunately, what was done was done and there was no more room for what ifs. She knew that after this decision of hers was taken, both of them would never go back to how things were initially, and even if she was beginning to have regrets, she knew there was no going back now.

“I……” Nina said, her voice sounding more like a whisper. She took a deep breath before continuing. “When my daughter recovers, we will break up, and I don’t want us to see each other anymore.”

Those words made Harley’s heart sink to the bottom of his belly. He was so stunned, and he couldn’t utter a word. He raised his head in astonishment, feeling a huge lump growing in his heart.

Although Nina had suggested that the two of them part ways many times before, Harley knew that she only said it those times out of anger. But at this moment, Nina’s voice was so calm and serious.

“You have truly decided to break up with me?” After a few seconds of silence, Harley finally found his voice to ask, trying to suppress the sadness in his heart.

Nina nodded lightly, “Yes, I don’t want to mess around anymore. But you have the right to visit in the future. you can come and see your daughter anytime you want.”

Harley was grateful for Nina’s gentility in handling their breakup. But the problem was that Harley didn’t want to break up. He had been harbouring a plan to fit their future in his head since the conversation he had with Kasen Paul in the hallway yesterday.

“No, let’s not break up, okay?” He leaned over and took Nina’s hand, and caressed it affectionately: “Give me a chance, just once so I can prove myself. It’s not too late for you to break up with me!”

Harley was convinced he hadn’t slept with Sylvia and he was still waiting. As soon as Sylvia gave birth, he was going to do a paternity test on that baby and everything will be revealed.

“Don’t push me anymore. I have made my decision and I won’t change my mind.” Nina slowly pulled out his hand and told him with a smile: “Tomorrow is the bone marrow extraction. You should go back home early today.”

Happiness vanished from Harley. There was no more room for negotiation, he knew. With great hurt in his heart, he stood up from the seat. “Okay, then I’ll go home.”

For the rest of the day, Harley spent the rest of the day in his flat, sulking. He swiped through the news on his mobile phone, and from time to time he would see netizens calling him a scumbag, and there were negative messages about him everywhere. It felt funny to him as he looked forward to the day when the truth was revealed, and he would prove his innocence in front of everyone.

The next morning, after a good night’s sleep, Harley woke up early and rushed to the hospital to extract the bone marrow and transplant it to his daughter as soon as possible. The bone marrow extraction went well, and the child’s surgery was scheduled for two days later. Things suddenly became more critical with the child’s condition worsening and eventually, the chief surgeon had to schedule it a day earlier.

THE NEXT DAY.

Harley rushed to the hospital despite the pouring rain. Drying himself with one of the towels the nurse had offered him, he stood at the door as his daughter was pushed into the operating room.

As time passed by, his heart was uneasy and his mind was empty. Kasen Paul waited beside him, along with Nina in a wheelchair.

“Mom and dad, don’t worry, the operation will be a success!” Nina said, patting her mother’s hand.

Harley also came over, and said to the old couple: “I asked the doctor before the operation, and they said they were confident in this operation.”

Even after the assuring statement, everyone present was still

worried, for fear that the child would not be able to get off the operating table. A few hours later, the red light on the operating room door suddenly went out.

A nurse then came out and happily announced: “The child’s operation was successful!”

Before he finished speaking, Kasen Paul hugged her on impulse and cried. There were tears in Nina’s eyes as well, and Harley’s heart was threatening to burst out of his chest with joy.

Harley took out a tissue and handed it to Nina, smiling with relief:

“I told you that our daughter will be fine!”

“I’m glad I believed you!” She replied sniffling and wiping her face with a tissue. “I want to see True Paul right now.” She was so anxious to see her daughter for the first time.

About ten minutes later, the nurse pushed the child, who was still in a coma, out. Looking at her daughter’s peaceful sleeping face and her small and weak body, Nina’s heart melted instantly.

“True Paul!” She called out the child’s name, wanting to hold her daughter’s petite hand.

Harley saw Nina couldn’t sit still in a wheelchair with excitement, so he stepped forward to help her for fear she would fall. Just as Harley stepped forward, he staggered and groaned, feeling dizzy.

“Mr. Timothy, are you alright?” asked a doctor who happened to have walked by at that moment and stretched out his hand to stabilize him.

Harley smiled lightly, and hurriedly shook hands with the doctor regardless of his dizziness. “Thank you, doctor. Thank you for saving my daughter!”

“You’re welcome. It’s my job to save lives and heal the wounded.”

The doctor responded, smiling.

Just after responding, the doctor found that Harley’s face was not quite right. “Mr. Timothy, are you sure you’re okay?”

Hearing the doctor’s question, Harley didn’t want to lie and said the truth “I’m a little dizzy, maybe it’s because I didn’t eat breakfast in the morning.” As soon as he finished speaking, he sneezed.

Nina looked at Harley and suddenly remembered that his clothes and hair were wet when he came to the hospital.

“Harley, do you have a cold? You were in the rain this morning!”

Harley raised his hand to touch his forehead. “Oh, it’s a little hot, maybe I got a fever after getting in the rain.”

Nina was beginning to worry. “Then you can go to the outpatient clinic downstairs. If the fever is serious, take some medication.”

“I’ll think about it, but I’ll wheel you back to the ward first.” However, he soon forgot his promise and didn’t go back to the clinic and for the next two days, he focused all his attention on Nina and the child, ignoring his unstable health.
