Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Instruction Booklet
One could only say that this horror film crew was extremely professional. The location they used, including the props and clothes, were particularly realistic. If one were to walk in without knowing what was going on, one would really think that they’d encountered a ghost. When Zhou Chen was carried into the ambulance, his body was still twitching violently, and he looked miserable!
Gao Qiao spoke excitedly on the phone. Huo Buyu also knew that the man had thoroughly confirmed Ye Yao’s ability. He hung up the phone and said to Ye Yao, “Stay away from Gao Qiao in the future.”
Ye Yao pinched her chin as though deep in thought. Ghosts were illusory things and did not exist. However, if they came in the form of actors playing these roles in a movie production, they would be counted as ‘ghosts’ from that perspective. Therefore, did that mean whatever she verbalized could be achieved in other ways? If so, and if she cursed the plane to crash, did it mean that the plane could crash in other ways, for example, malfunctioning as it descended? Thinking of this, Ye Yao shuddered in fear. After all, her original intention was not to use her ability to harm people or the society.
Seeing that Ye Yao was silent, Huo Buyu called out again, “Ye Yao, what are you thinking about?”
Ye Yao came back to her senses and looked at Huo Buyu in horror. “Huo Buyu, do you think whatever I say will come true?” If so, it would be too terrifying! It would mean she had to ensure she didn’t speak frivolously in the future! All along, Ye Yao had felt that her ability wouldn’t cause too much danger, whatever resulted would just be a harmless joke. If she’d known that the damage would be so great, she would have listened to Huo Buyu!
At this thought, Ye Yao raised her hand and swore. “Huo Buyu, I’ll do whatever you say from now on. I won’t speak frivolously again.”
Huo Buyu glanced at her, his face full of disbelief. How did she suddenly become enlightened?
Just as Huo Buyu and Ye Yao arrived home, the latter’s phone rang. It was Yang Youwei. “My assistant is outside your villa with something for you. You’ll need to collect it.”
Ye Yao was puzzled. “Huh? What is it?”
“Instruction booklet,” the man replied.
Ye Yao was rather surprised. “… Instruction booklet? What sort of instruction?”
Yang Youwei said, “I don’t know the details. Take a look for yourself.” With that, Yang Youwei hung up. Ye Yao looked at her phone in a daze and said to Huo Buyu, “Little Uncle sent me something. I’ll go collect it.”
Huo Buyu stopped her. “Go clean up. I’ll collect it for you.” Then, he turned around and walked out of the villa. Ye Yao went upstairs to wash up. After a while, Huo Buyu returned with a book in his hand. He handed it to Ye Yao. “Your uncle sent you a book with blank pages.”
After Huo Buyu collected the item, he had removed the packaging. There was only a book inside, but when he flipped it open, there was not a single word in it.
However, when Ye Yao took the book from him, she saw that the pages were filled with text. She looked at Huo Buyu in confusion. “Aren’t these all words? It’s just that they’re all in traditional Chinese. You may not know how to read them, but that’s not to say they are blank pages.”
Huo Buyu was puzzled. “You’re saying that these pages are filled with text? And they are in traditional Chinese?” That wasn’t what he was seeing. All he was seeing were blank pages!
Ye Yao couldn’t quite read traditional Chinese characters. After studying it for a while, she vaguely understood it. So it was really an instruction manual! A verbal virtuoso’s instruction manual!
Verbal Virtuosity Level 0: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t!
Verbal Virtuosity Level 1: Good things never happen but bad things do!
Verbal Virtuosity Level 2: It’s effective, but it doesn’t last!
Verbal Virtuosity Level 3: It depends on subjective consciousness!
Subsequently, there are no other levels. It seemed there were only three levels. Ye Yao made an assessment and felt that she was at Level 2. The instructions were very cryptic and difficult to understand, not only because they were written in traditional characters, but also because they were written in ancient Chinese. Ye Yao could only make out the general meaning. For example, the third level depended on “subjective consciousness”. This subjective consciousness should be referring to Ye Yao’s consciousness. For example, if she felt that this person was a bad person, the effect of her words would be enhanced and last a little longer. If she felt that the situation did not exist and it was just something she made up, such as a plane crashing, and if this matter would harm others in reality, then her words would not be efficacious. In the example of when the elevator fell, Ye Yao stopped the elevator. This action was sustained for a very long time because she was anxious to save someone. She was worried about not having enough time and not being able to carry out the rescue. Hence, it was this subjective consciousness that enabled the action to be extended.
