Chapter 253: Ch.252 Brother Can Only Help You This Much
So, Su Ming pulled out the same spiel he had used to manipulate Cable earlier, this time directing it at the X-Men.
However, he slightly adjusted the focus, highlighting the cruel treatment mutants faced during this time period and emphasizing that Germany was conducting large-scale experiments on mutants.
As expected, the girls, raised by Professor X with strong moral values, couldn't stand it. They immediately took the bait and decided to go save their "kin."
Unexpectedly, it wasn't Vanessa who took charge of the group but another young girl with a streak of white hair on her forehead who accepted the map.
"Remember me? I'm Rogue."
Su Ming noticed that she was wearing a black uniform but still had gloves on, indicating that she hadn't fully mastered control of her abilities at this point.
If Rogue could fully harness her powers, she would definitely be considered Omega-level. While she wasn't that strong yet, she was still more than enough to handle the enemies of this era.
"Of course, I remember. But you've all grown up now."
Su Ming made small talk. The girls assumed he was also from the future, though, in reality, Su Ming had no idea what he might do in the future.
"Of course... The last time you saw us, we were still in class at the old mansion. But now, we're the new X-Men." Rogue proudly puffed out her chest, showing off the X-Men symbol on her uniform. She took on the role of team leader and introduced her squad: "This is Magik, this is Tempus, this is Armor, and this is Husk."
The other girls were fine, but bringing Magik along on a time-traveling mission wasn't the best idea.
With one hand wielding a large sword and the other casting magic, she was undoubtedly powerful—she was the only sorceress among mutants and extremely strong.
But her magic came from the Limbo dimension. Even though she had become the queen of that place and was considered a half-dimension ruler, with an entire realm backing her, she had paid a price for it.
Her body was partially demonized. When she used her powers, she would grow scales, horns, and claws, resembling a demon. Every year, she had to spend half her time in Limbo, defending her throne from challengers. It was the source of her power, and she had to fight off all demons who sought to take her place to keep her crown.
At this point in time, she wasn't yet the ruler of Limbo. If she used black magic, it could cause significant problems.
Since Su Ming had considered this, he naturally warned them. But Magik just huffed proudly, her face blushing as she turned her head away and hoisted her Soulsword, indicating she didn't need magic—her weapon was enough.
This topic piqued Monarch's interest, as he wanted to discuss the future of magic with his peers.
Ignoring the wizards' spell-casting symposium, Su Ming invited the girls to sit down and chat for a while.
"Wade, cousin, I can only help you this much. Vanessa can only be distracted for so long before she finds out you're a jerk," Su Ming thought to himself with a smile.
He had Gin order more dishes, not just fish and potatoes, and brought out some of the ready-to-eat stew packs they had brought along.
They ate and chatted, even though it wasn't exactly polite table manners. But none of them were ordinary people, so it didn't really matter.
Besides, Su Ming used to be Chinese—didn't people always discuss business over meals?
He wasn't worried about their strength. Even without Magik's magic, their team was still very powerful.
Husk had defensive powers. She could mimic any material she knew, like rock, tree bark, or adamantium. If she could analyze vibranium or Uru metal, she could mimic those too.
Armor had a similar defense-based ability. She could create an armor shell using her thoughts, like a Gundam or a space knight, strong enough to withstand attacks from anything below adamantium.
Tempus was an incredibly rare mutant. Her power allowed her to throw energy spheres that could freeze time within a fifty-meter radius, essentially turning enemies into permanent specimens.
With Rogue and Copycat, both capable of absorbing and mimicking others' abilities, this team was arguably even stronger than Cable's earlier ragtag group.
And hey, even if it wasn't for Wade, sharing a meal with a group of beautiful girls was much more pleasant than entertaining a bunch of gruff men, right?
The food might have been mediocre, but there was no shortage of good drinks. Su Ming didn't bother worrying about whether they were of legal drinking age; Gin handed each of them a couple of bottles. Even if they didn't drink it themselves, they could always take it as a gift.
To stall for Wade, Su Ming had no choice but to engage the girls in conversation about their studies, asking about their school life, training, and missions.
The girls were very open and told him everything they knew, giving Su Ming a lot of useful intel about the future.
He wasn't asking for nothing. In return, he promised that once this was all over, he would take them shopping in New York, where he would foot the bill for some classic 1940s vintage fashion.
At the same time, he subtly reminded them to be careful when saving the world, especially about not altering the timeline too much.
The girls giggled and tried some fish and chips, but quickly stuck out their tongues and shook their heads. They found the stew to be decent, and except for Armor, they soon took a liking to the Skywalker ale.
Fortunately, no one else came looking for Wade after that, and Su Ming and the others were able to finish their meal in peace. There were no explosions or disturbances in London, which meant Wade had somehow avoided disaster for now.
With everything settled, Su Ming arranged a time to meet up and made sure the Namor fragments were safely stored before bidding the girls farewell. They split up to go their separate ways.
Rogue politely said goodbye, and Magik shot him a strange look, while the other girls laughed and ran off.
Despite the war-torn streets, the girls seemed to find everything new and exciting, happily deciding to visit Big Ben first.
Vanessa, however, hadn't had much to drink. As a former escort, her tolerance was high. Sensing something, she hurriedly dragged Magik along to find Wade.
The three mustachioed men stood on the street, watching the girls disappear from sight, and let out a collective sigh.
Wade's girlfriends had crossed time and space to find him, but what about them?
All three of them were single, united by their shared loneliness.
The spring breeze only brought cold, and the desolate scene on the streets mirrored the grayness in their hearts.
"Boss, here's your coat."
Gin stepped forward and draped a wool coat over Su Ming's shoulders, instantly changing his mood.
"That's right. I may not have a girlfriend, but I've got loyal followers like Gin! You mustachioed brothers can't drag me down with your loser energy!"
Su Ming immediately exuded a powerful aura—the confidence of a successful crime boss.
Holoway's lips twitched: "Monarch, do you have a portal directly to Paris?"
Monarch: "Yes, I've had it ready for a while."
"Let's go, now. We'll find a bar to prove the charm of our mustaches."
"Alright, I could use a refresher on my French."
Monarch raised his staff and created a portal in midair. Through it, they could see the Eiffel Tower in the distance, located in a discreet alley.
The two of them dove into the portal as if escaping. They needed to prove themselves.
Su Ming picked up the large box containing his uniform and weapons. He also needed to prepare—the next fragment was over there.
Before stepping through the portal, he remembered something and pulled out the large gemstone ring he had swiped during the Kamar-Taj battle, tossing it to Gin.
"Good job. This ring looks pretty. Keep it."
With that, he stepped into the portal, which vanished behind him, restoring everything to normal.
Gin looked down at the ring, which featured a large, square gemstone that seemed rather gaudy. He smiled, shaking his head as he slowly slipped it onto his finger.
The dull gemstone suddenly lit up with a bright glow.
He immediately shoved his hand into his pocket, his expression blank as he turned and quickly led the Brewery henchmen away.
